With the shoes being signed and numbered makes it a dilemma to wear them or not.

For your enjoyment
That was just plain wicked!

My kid has the best mother a wrestler could have. She spent her Mother’s Day weekend at a tournament in Michigan, and I am sure she was happy to be there!

It's the chicken before the egg scenario.
What if there is another kid just like yours that is waiting to see if anyone signs up? Then neither of you sign up....
P.S. I don't agree with locking the tournament entry list. If you run a good tournament people will come.
I can see that point as well, personally we have never looked to see who was wrestling, signed him up, and always hoped for a match or two. I would say over the last year or so there have been more big kids wrestling, so I would say it is getting better. But it is still frustrating to drive a couple of hours for nothing.

You're probably right. I just hate to sign up for a tournament, drive two hours and there not be anyone there. We like to go to tourneys we haven't been to before - so we don't always hit up the ones closest. I think wrestler lists should always be available, instantly.
As a parent of a young heavy weight, I can feel your pain. We have traveled to many matches and no one to wrestle. It would be nice to see the number, it really doesn't matter who it is. The main thing is to get mat time. When you have heavy weight school boys, or cadets in 8th grade and cannot move up to junior, it is really disappointing to the kid when he has no one to wrestle.

Thoughts? Apparently s/he is already taking testosterone treatments, which I believe are banned in nearly every high school/collegiate/pro sport unless there is a legitimate medical need.
That is the problem, everyone is afraid to do the right thing and call BS when it should be called. What is the difference if it was a regular kid that was taking testosterone, or any other enhancing drug, they would be out, but God forbid you challenge a LGBT person now a days. Should be a huge asterisk next to the kids name in the record books if it wins.

Some decently big brackets and potential for some good match ups.
But I did possibly notice one thing. If I'm looking at this right, people from the same qualifier are meeting first round and some of (or all) the high placers from the qualifier didn't get seeded in the bracket based on their placement at that event. From a quick glance, I'm noticing a few high qualifier placers that will get a SQ or SSQ in the early rounds. I get you eventually have to face everyone, but I'm wondering what's the point of the qualifier if placing high in it didn't give you some type of advantage at the state meet and people from the same qualifier are seeing each other again first round. I would have thought the track program could have easily populated the top 2 or 3 qualifiers from each area into the bracket as the 3rd criteria after SQ and SSQ and mix the two qualifiers.
Maybe next year.
I think one thing that complicated it was the fact that some of the placers from the qualifiers did not come. So some of the lower seeded kids are missing, and this probably caused some of the issues. I know my son placed second at Ft. Wayne, and he wrestled the 4th place kid from there in his first match. I agree it would have been nice for them to see kids from the other qualifier in the first matches.

Any place online where any results/brackets can be found?
track wrestling has all of the information.

Maybe so but the iswa kids even stop wrestling 1:00 1:00 1:00 after the age of 9. Just don't like it. Just my opinion.
I agree.

I am guessing that they are cutting the time of the matches down, so that they will finish at a reasonable time. It kind of sucked getting done at 9:30 on a Sunday night, for the North qualifier, and having to drive almost two hours home.

All of the statistics are nice and all. As a mathematics teacher I should appreciate them more. But mathematically speaking, even if you show a correlation it does not mean a causation. MY OPINION is that the decline is wrestling numbers has to do with several factors that we probably don't have statistical evidence for. I do not think single v. multi-class is significant. Here are 2 factors that I think are contributing:
- Despite all our societal lip service to things like grit, persistence and personal accountability, these are on the decline in actual practice. Since wrestling has a high demand for all of these, it is not surprising to me that fewer kids are interested.
- Increase in other sports and the ability to do those sports year round.
I think your absolutely correct, and I would also add, many schools have trimmed their physical education time way down, to fit in other mandated classes. This makes for a lot of kids who are not physically fit for much of anything, let alone the demands of wrestling.

The most entertaining match of the whole weekend! Two great competitors!

As I read through the list, this seems to be the sticking point. Am I correct? The other questions seem to basically involve extra practice sessions or lessons and this tournament is not hosted by a school. Nothing prohibits the wrestlers themselves from attending this competition-right? So is the issue who can coach them matside? Are these wrestlers even considered to be 'in-season' if they are not still in the State Tournament series?
In my opinion, all of the wrestlers are done with their Scholastic season of wrestling. So the high school coaches should be eligible to coach them, just like they would coach them if they had a club and were coaching kids in the club, on a Sunday offseason match. But that is just my opinion.

I would suggest that they add more mats if they have this at Ft.Wayne next year. It was a long day, did not get out of there until almost 9:30 last night , with an hour and a half drive. But all in all it was a good venue, with lots of great wrestling. They also might want to think about an earlier start than 1100, that didn't help matters either.
