  1. It's under $1,000 this year as no new headgear, shoes, or singlets purchased. Just 2 Indiana tournaments and fees for the Indiana school club. Plus the USAW coaching fees. The Ohio school club was free since I helped with coaching. That club sells gun raffle tickets, runs a couple concession stands, and has a bake sale to pay for the tournament entry fees throughout the year. Also any $ made on hosting a dual tournament as well. Most was just gas traveling & food besides entrance fees at all tournaments.

I would say Adam Central and Prairie Heights had more qualifiers and medal winners 15 -20 years ago. Both of those schools have a wrestling culture and kids that wrestle year around. Basketball despised going to a class tournament. Let's ask and see if they want a single class back. Probably not. Being able to compete in a sectional or for a state title is within reach.

I can only speak for Adams Central, but the culture isn't just wrestling. The culture goes throughout the athletic department and in the classroom. I feel all 3 sports seasons try to work together to share the athletes & there has been a huge focus on the weight training end of being multiple sport athletes. There are a few wrestlers that wrestle year round, but more 2-3 sport athletes on the roster. The goal seems to be focusing on the team state duals, competing with the normal wrestling powers at sectional & regional in team standings, and then hopefully a few state qualifiers. If those qualifiers are just wrestling all year, then hopefully state placers. Though this year was abnormal with no qualifiers, it has worked out for the most part. 3 straight runner up finishes in football, 2 straight team state dual runner ups, won the conference team duals & individual tournament this year, and solid years in spring sports. Plus the prior 25 or so straight years of having a state qualifier in wrestling before this season.

Good in theory, but as @Y2CJ41 has pointed out, has not worked in other states. Priority 1 (on this topic) is getting to an individual classed tournament. If we can swing an "ultimate tournament" of some sort, great. But we should not forego the classed individual simply because we won't have a "true champion."

I thought he pointed out doing a tournament of champions after their classed tournaments but I could have read too quickly. I'm saying the classed tournaments would be like Mishawaka currently & in that time frame as a regular season event but would be nice to get it as a tournament per the IHSAA schedule rules. Then we can add to our finalists accomplishments in the single class  intros.

  4. My philosophy is why not have a classed individual tournament near the Mishawaka, Evansville, and etc time frame? Then go into team state after that, and then end the year with the current single class individual tournament. None of that tournament of champion crap where it won't guarantee a matchup happening.

    South Adams

Sawyer Miller, 4th, 3rd, 2nd at state and then three time AA and a national championship at Indiana Tech

Glad to have him back in the room, working to add some new nominees for this question!

Definitely! Be curious to see how Bellmont fans rate their list & AC fans as well. I'd say Roe would have to be AC's top as the only state champ but a few others had high placements throughout their careers.

  6. They need to let the schools sell tickets in allotments. I bought tickets from the school for the football championship game as they were cheaper than Ticketmaster. This would hopefully get the qualifiers supporters good seating. These should be offered earlier than other tickets. Then have lower sections still available to be reserved & upper levels be general admission.

Pretty sure the misconduct was called on the mat after match was concluded. He was initially the winner till the incident.

Thought the radio said Harper had won 2-0 and then they were at each other  or at least the New Haven wrestler was irritated.

Dane mentioned someone needed to separate them in the tunnel before things got really heated.

  8. Streak is over as 0 Bagubas are heading to Evansville. Just 1 Starfire & I believe 4 Braves. Adams County had a good 1st round but the ticket round was a bit rougher. Good luck to the 5 going next week. Starfires starting a new streak this year hopefully. Bellmont continues theirs, and it's time for the Bagubas to start a new streak next season.

  9. I mean a round where they definitely could institute wrestle backs would be my hill to die on. However if you want yours to be bracket releases of known match ups barring injury, illness, or etc then so be it. To each their own. When you have no pig tails or just 8 participants instead of 16 at the round, I cannot justify single elimination in the first round.

I think there are a lot of shenanigans in a lot of other sports across the state, we just have the platform and a passionate fan base that makes ours get more attention than what happens in other sports.

True, but GID gets a lot of seeding & neutral site playoff game discussion as well. Especially when Ohio seeds their football tournament. Indiana is better by having all in football playoffs & single class wrestling individual championships. Still support classed individual tournament between team state duals & singke class individual tournament. Both need wrestle backs at every step of the tournament.
