I am glad the new Coaches got the new AD to go this route. I know me and Mac tried every year to get Track to this event. We were always told it wouldn’t  work even though more than half the teams used some kind of software to track there own teams. We even ran a mock tourney sitting on the floor one year to show it would work. I hope she continues to listen to Coach Degroat on how to seed the event. He followed MattM’s outline above when we talked. We will know in the next week or two what, if any, criteria is used for seeding. Either way it a high step forward for that event.

    All,

I want to share a story about the kind of people we have in this sport.  Last Saturday Greenfield had a young lady injured in a match at New Palestine High School.  It was a head and neck injury that required her to be transported to the hospital via ambulance.  She and her parents had never been through something like this before and were justifiably shaken.

On Tuesday of this week I was called down to the athletic office.  We had received a package.  It was a box of flowers addressed to the young lady who was injured.  They were sent from the Columbia City Wrestling Program.  I know it's a little thing and some people may not understand, but it touched me and my program.

People think wrestling is about working hard, sweating, bleeding, beating on people, etc..., but it's not.  It's above LOVING each other.  I wan't to thank Columbia City for giving my program an example of how people are supposed to love each other.

    Thank you!

I will go AA for our guy if he goes this year. He would not be favorite to win it all but like I said before… most growth is that off season going into freshman college season. I wouldn’t be surprised if he got hot late in the season and pulled it off. Just wish him a healthy season. We will be rooting for him!

Won freestyle nationals, had a great IHPO and just knocked off a two time Oregon state champ who was ranked 16th by Flo (Gage Singleton) to finish undefeated and team OW at tyrant high school duals. Been wrestling high school duals for a couple seasons now and has been beating good high schoolers. Proud of my guy!!!

I see a rivalry we Ferrari on the horizon.. Heard his really really taking well to the room at Nebraska and his though limited matches this year he's 7-0 with 6 pins and a tech with one of his pins over current top 10 Ranked stud.Yonger Bastida who's 23 and a very accomplished FS wrestler and Bastida holds 2 wins over #10 ranked Elam,#7 Warner and our own top 20 ranked Penola.

Evan is being home schooled this upcoming season. Our family decided to do it for a few personal reasons. Evan is younger side of 2007 birthday. He would have been 18 at graduation if he went this season but will be 19 now when he graduates. He was a first year Cadet. We look forward to watching him compete in high school as well. He has been a 2 Middle School Champ and finalist all 3 times but will not attend that tournament as a hold back. As far as high school goes we haven’t made a family decision 100% yet. I do coach at a Indiana high school and this will be my 4th season.

Justin Ratliff reacted to FCFIGHTER170 in Just sharing that I was just chose to create and host a Combat Sports show!!
Fight mixer is a Combat Sports show made up of a conglomerate of content creators and is currently top 10 on Amazon and sports shows. They put an ad out on social media and was blessed that I was like the 15th person interviewed and was the first person given one of the two positions on the spot! It's going to be oriented as a base towards MMA with the name of it being the "MMA MULLET MATINEE" .. it will be shown on Amazon, Apple TV, Roku, YouTube, and other streaming services Etc.

I sold them on the idea that I wanted to bring a comedic edge to a very technical analytical Combat Sports show, where I can not only break down Combat Sports from a fans perspective but also from a coach's perspective and how you would prepare your athlete and also from a fighter's perspective in a psychological standpoint what goes into being a pro fighter Etc which is proprietary in many ways in comparison to most of the other creators that cover combat sports!

With the main star being my mullet AKA" Marvelous Mac the MMA Mullet"  who gives me all of my powers and is my better half per se in this Siamese twin arrangement we have LOL obviously with a Indiana neck bandana AKA Florida follicle fountain AKA West Virginia waterfall AKA Tennessee typhoon AKA Texas two step aka the Pensacola panty dropper AKA my mullet will have almost a mind of his own playing off that goofy concept.. with Marvelous Mac being 5000-0 in combat sports, being the one who beat forfeit into who he is today, whenever we walk into a room people ask "didyou see the guy on that Marvelous Mullet"?
Chuck Norris's hair is the length that it is because of Mac, Chuck didn't even want to attempt or show any type of disrespect, out of respect For Mullet Mac!!! The Fight Gods were made in his image aka the image of the MMA Messiah AKA marvelous Mac😂

Yes it is a fight-bas ed show but I will be bringing the spotlight to Indiana wrestling, College and international wrestling, boxing come and kickboxing, Muay thai, bare knuckle boxing Etc.

My first episode of July 26th and I will have five episodes every Tuesday starting the 26th running through August 23rd 9:00 p.m. eastern time. I was also going to ask if Indiana Mat would want to be one of my clothing sponsors that will get you a lifetime plug on every episode that I do, social media plugs, and logo on my sponsorship Banner that is coined the Mullet Militia!!
Like most of you I've Loved this form for years and knew that a few people that kind of think I'm a ok fella wouldn't mind hearing the good news. I sure look good in a 800 lb gorilla shirt on Amazon Uncle Joe @Y2CJ41😂
My actual sponsorship ad that I made was, $150 for my first 5 episodes 30/each and have gotten a pretty good list going of pledges that are going to be my first set of sponsors! Second season starts in November and I'm going to adjust my rates accordingly but I was just hoping that Indiana Matt would take me up on a 1x gear sponsorship for infinite shout out / plugs on my show for the rest of my media existence 😂

    1. Mostly yes, basically anyone that I have had that was a qualifier since 2006 did some off-season. Note more on this later
    2. Depends upon the kid. Some with a lot of experience and mat time at a younger age didn't need or require a lot. Some needed more, it's really dependent upon the kid.
    3. Small if you aren't honing the skills. Things have changed drastically in the past 10-15 years.

    4+
Much like anything in life, there is no "cookie-cutter" solution or even an easy way to analyze what is needed for each kid. Putting in time is always good, it's what you define as time. Some kids love to train and would rather just practice and do very little competing. Some love tournaments and will be going places every week. Some are a little of both.

There are so many different avenues to stay crisp with wrestling in the off-season that it takes a great balance between training(RTC, home club, academies), competitions, camps, and even spending time in the weight room. Even playing another sport, especially a contact sport, will help a kid develop as an athlete.

Many kids(and even coaches) like having something short term to work for. I really liked going to Disney and other June dual events because it kept something in front of the kids as a goal to work for. Working in May and June for November seems like ages away.

As kids get older off-season competition may not be needed as much. Many kids have been through the grind since they were young and only need maybe a handful of off-season events to keep them hungry and ready. In general I have had a lot of kids that started early that we have lessened the load of competing or even training in the off-season. Some of those times burnout and hating the sport was creeping in and I let them go do other things and didn't bother them as I knew once the season came around they would be refreshed and ready to go.

We all want our kids to be 24/7 dedicated to wrestling whether we want to admit it or not. At times it is needed to let them be kids, let them do other things, or even let them fail. The hardest thing to do as a parent/coach is to let a kid fail or see a kid fail when you know the potential is there for great success. Many of our best lessons are learned from failing.

Justin Ratliff reacted to SMWC Sprint Football in Football Scholarship Opportunity
My name is Matt McLaren.  I am the Defensive Coordinator and Offensive Line coach at St. Mary of the Woods Sprint Football team.  We are located in Terre Haute, IN.

Sprint Football is regular football except there is a 178 pound limit.  Naturally the hardest positions to find for us will be lineman and positions that are normally played by people who weigh more than 178.  Sprint football has been around a long time in the northeast US with Army/Navy and several Ivy League schools adopting the game in the 1950's to provide football opportunities for the "average sized man"

Wrestlers with football experience are preferred, but football experience is not necessary.  We are looking for young men who love to compete and wish to pursue a college education.

The process is rather simple.  All that is required is to apply to the school.
    https://apply.smwc.edu/

Once you have been admitted we will contact you and begin the offering process.

If you have any questions or would like to speak to me about this please call me at 317-796-0622.

We want to wish you all the best in your future endeavors and if your looking for a college home #ComeToTheWoods.

    A couple things:

    1. Most of us would love to have had CJ's career.  I watched him grow up as his father was one of my coaches.  I couldn't be more proud of the man he has become.

    2. I'm not sure what the "expectations" where for CJ, but if you mean not being a National Champion, then I think you should look at what percentage of high school wrestlers actually go on to accomplish that.  Y2 probably knows!

    3. IDK how many people on here wrestled in college, but there are more factors to your success than your wrestling ability.  I feel like I had the ability to complete for a DII title, but I never got close.  There were other factors that I struggled to overcome.  Some out of my control.

    4. I personally think one of CJ's factors was weight cutting.  I had the same issue, as do many others.  When he had a good cut, he could beat anyone.  When he had a bad cut, he struggled (and by that I mean he was still a top 8 in the country kid :)).

    5. I know the question isn't meant to be disparaging, I'm just putting my two cents in as someone who has known the family since 1997.  I would never have sniffed a state title without Coach Red.  I know he is proud of CJ, you can hear it in his voice when he talks about him.  If CJ's accomplishments make Coach Red proud, that's good enough for me.
