  1. I've got two since we're talking hypotheticals..... 1. Brayton Lee vs Mason Parris 2. Mason Parris vs. the Top 10 126 lbers, all at once. Think Kramer vs. the kids in his Karate class on Seinfeld!
  2. I like your thinking.... But with Nickal vs Martin, both National Champions, Hall vs. Jordan and even Moore vs Rasheed I think any of those could swing the dual. Nickal has looked listless recently to me. I don't know if he has been sick or what, but he just hasn't seemed as explosive or energetic. Martin definitely has a chance there. I'm not sure anyone outside of Penn St gives Rasheed a real chance against Moore, but I think that match is really interesting, for the reasons Thor has already mentioned. But Lee vs McKenna is definitely up there with and important for Big Ten seeding as well.
  3. He got hurt earlier in the season. Out for the year, I believe. And for those that finish their regional early enough, Penn State hosts Ohio St. at 8pm (Eastern) in a #1 vs #2 dual. Penn St.'s Jason Nolf is out at 157 which will make things a little tougher for the Nittany Lions. The dual features 11 wrestler's ranked in Flo's Top 5 and include.s Nick Lee's toughest Big Ten match to date vs Joey McKenna.
  4. If no snow, I may take a last minute trip up.
  5. First of all, I love your plan. There are only two concerns I can think of that may be negative. 1. Would a smaller semi-state and less revenue give the IHSAA less reason to utilize a facility such as the Ford Center? I'm not sure where the other semi-states are held, but I believe having it at the Ford Center and being the last step before Banker's Life makes the Evansville SS an event. And an event that is building toward the crescendo of State. Would it feel the same in your scenario, especially if it moves to say Evansville North or somewhere else. 2. Would you need bigger arenas for a larger regional like that? How would the feel of the tournament change if you had a Regional at a facility like the Ford Center (would it even be available annually?) and then the SS back at Ev North or Castle? Again, I don't know how the facilities are at the other SS's. Those may be minor in the grand scheme of things and I'm not sure how realistic it would be to get the IHSAA make the changes (me thinks not likely at all), but I really do like how you offered a full plan. Less negative domino effects possible than just making one or two changes.
  6. What's the long term weather forecast for that weekend look like at this point?
  7. Nice work! My only critique or suggestion is when putting together a list like this, use wrestlers first names and teams as well. Not all of us have everyone in the state memorized and it would be nice not to have to go back and forth between the post and the rankings. I know it's extra work, but it would be appreciated by me and I would think at least a few others. A note on Clay Egli at 126. He wrestled 106 two years ago and lost in the ticket round to Brycen Denny of Monrovia. That half bracket had Cayden Rooks, Asa Garcia, Denny and Egli. Those are the kind of ticket round matches that are expected this year. Last year, Egli got beat out by Eli Dickens and would have had to wrestle off against his brother Kane to move down in weight and chose not to (as I heard it). So he wrestled JV last year, waiting his turn. Definitely state qualifier type wrestler.
  8. To my knowledge, Nick has only faced Yianni once. The score was 12-7 and wasn't really that close. That said, Nick has done well in the past avenging losses. Not saying he will beat him next time, but wouldn't put it past him. My guess is Nick fits behind Yianni, Eierman, Meredith, Kevin Jack and Brock Zacherl, which would put him at 6. He'll have to beat McKenna and if not win the Big Ten, finish 2nd to see that high of a seed I would guess. Don't see the others losing before nationals. Heil is the wild card. As BrennanFan said, he's lost 4 of his last 7, including today to Ian Parker of Iowa St. Parker moved up from 133 after Kanen Storr decided to transfer all of a sudden last week. Not sure if he bounces back, where that would put him in the seeding. Also not sure if he wins the B1G if they would seed him above Zacherl. Zacherl won head to head, but will have faced nowhere near the level of competition. Still has matches against Ohio State, Iowa and Buffalo remaining before conference. Lots of work to do, but is definitely heading in the right direction.
  9. Same applies for Clay Egli and Willis out of Evansville North Regional. Somebody is going to land in a very uncomfortable spot in the ticket round at the Ford Center!
  10. Nick with a workmanlike win over Mike Van Brill of Rutgers this afternoon 5-2. Van Brill was able to fend off some shots and escape twice.
  11. #1 ranked Nick Suriano was their 125 last year. Got hurt before the NCAA's and couldn't wrestle. For some reason he decided to transfer to Rutgers, leaving PSU no time to replace him. PSU fans are pissed because they believe they would have gotten Spencer Lee if Suriano wasn't in the way. Kind of left them high and dry. PSU tried to deny his release and make him sit out a year, but the B1G ruled in Suriano's favor.
  12. Very impressive performance for Nick tonight at home vs. 10th Ranked Tommy Thorn of Minnesota. Major Dec 15-3. Almost had the fall with a cradle late in the 3rd period. Riding time near 3:00. His was the featured match and ended the meet. (Minny FF at 149) Named CK Most Outstanding Wrestler of the Dual.
  13. I think that is a good idea. However, I think there is resistance because North has not even hosted a Sectional. It would seem to make more sense if they rotated the sectional between Central and North a couple of years before awarding and moving the Regional. With no actual knowledge of the current state of the North program other than recent history, it seems fair to me to wonder if they have enough people/staff to pull it off well. The other thing that comes to mind is why the change was made. Is someone looking for a cheaper option than the Ford Center for the Semi-State and trying to use North as a test to see if they could take it over? Is there reason to believe they may not be able to continue using the Ford Center (for whatever reason) and this is a preemptive move to try to see if North has the facility, the ability and the desire to take on the Semi-State and keep it in Evansville? Could someone be thinking 3-4 years down the road? One might think it would make sense for there to be a reason given for the move but that doesn't seem to be the case. Is it common for the IHSAA to take events away from a school without an explanation?
  14. Do they keep stats on that last one? Seems like someone might get in trouble if that got out!
  15. How is that possible? Could he have been eligible all year, but not for sectionals? Or was this just found out and he was not eligible and still wrestled?
  16. No dual during the season for the two so it would have to be at conference tournament or the NCAAs
  17. SIAC is spelled out in the tournament name on TW. Search Southern Indiana Athletic and that will get you there as well
  18. Lee with a MD 22-10. He got caught with a cement mixer and gave up 2 points but rolled off his back to avoid more. Also gave up a revers, but the rest of the match it was pretty much take down, ride a bit, release, wash, rinse repeat. Riding time was in the neighborhood of 2:00. Next up is Minnesota Friday night against 10th ranked Tommy Thorn and Sunday vs Rutgers and Mike Vasnchenkbrill who is 9-7 on the season. The following week is Ohio State and Iowa back to back.
  19. Penn State @ Maryland this afternoon. Match just underway with 125 complete. 133 may be quick as Maryland's wrestler is 2-10. Lee will wrestle Ryan Diehl who was ranked earlier in the season but has taken some lumps recently and is 8-7 on the season. Diehl lost by TF to OSU's Joey McKenna and by Fall to Chad Red. Expect Nick to dominate.
  20. Streck falls to Nevills 4-2. Streck had chances, he just couldn't finish a couple of shots. Final PSU 43 - Purdue 6
  21. Pretty much, yeah. He's technically very sound. Shakur Rasheed wins by Fall over Kobe Woods 1:42. Rasheed is PSU's 3rd wrestler at 197 this year and may end up being their best.
  22. Vincente Joesph with a dominating TF. Mark Hall MD 11-3 over Dylan Lydy. Lydy was tough and Hall had to work for it. Hall won the scrambles. Bo Nickal with a fall in less than 2:00.
  23. unfortunately, close losses at 197 (Kleimola) and 285 (Fletcher Miller) keep IU from pulling out the dual win. MSU wins 18-15 Garrett Pepple did pick up a nice win at 133, 6-2 over Santos
  24. Falls by Retherford and Nolf. Big shock. PSU 19-6 at intermission
  25. Keener dec Thornton 3-2 - lots of shots by Thornton but couldn't finsh. Lee with a MD over Limmex, 13-4. Lee won every scramble and fended off Limmex shots, two where he got in on a single leg but couldn't finish. Nice performance by Nick in his Rec Hall debut. Check that, Lee wins 14-4. I missed a late stall point on Limmex.
