  1. "Turtles and Fish Die On Their Backs"! "You have to WANT IT"! "You might get beat but DON'T YOU EVER QUIT"! Joe Gossman Jr. - Evv Mater Dei
  2. Badges? We don't need no stinking badges! Originally in "Treasure of the Sierra Madre" starring Humphrey Bogart 1948.
  3. Its pretty frustrating when you follow a team from afar and the local Evansville paper doesn't even post local wrestling results, at least I can't find them!
  4. How did the MD boys do in St Louis? Can't find it on Trackwrestling. It is listed on their schedule.
  5. I made the drive from Jackson Michigan that year and sat with the MD faithful. When Jankowski got pinned you could have heard a pin drop! To this day it was the most exciting wrestling dual I have ever witnessed. -Joe Gossman III
  6. After listening to complaints about lousy officiating in other posts...how could we possibly find enough "state worthy" officials to work the extra matches? (sarcasm font)
  7. I thought that was first tsirtsis.
  8. ding ding ding I think we have a winner. It was Shane Perkey.
  9. Very disappointed in the "Fish-Eater" comment.
  10. From my view the ref was out of position to see elliot's back touch the mat for more than a two count. I do not believe he was moving fast enough to catch it all. When they went out of bounds with no points awarded he looked like a deer in the headlights while looking to the other refs like he needed help. It was a pretty well wrestled match and very exciting. In my opinion Egli wrestled better than Elliot and was the agressor most of the match.
  11. After watching Egli get robbed in the Elliot match last weekend I believe he has as good a chance as any one to take it all.
  12. The "Hole" should be a seperate topic with testimonials from the Men who survived it.
  13. I remember when Bloomington wrestling was the stick by which Indiana wrestling programs were compared. Those confrontations between your Dad and mine were EPIC! We made sure he had one of those cigars in his breast pocket when he journeyed to that great sports arena in the sky. Joe Gossman III
  14. Fill in the blanks. "______ ______ always win because they recruit"!
  15. Fat Man Roll...That's some funny stuff right there!
  16. I always remember the way he would let the name "Mal-do-na-doooooo" roll off his tongue. He did that quite a lot if I recall correctly.
  17. This is one of the best posts I have read on this site in a long time. Those contests in the 60's And 70's were some of the most intense and fun matches I can remember. I wish Coach Gossman could be here to give his account of the rivalry between him and Don Henry. Joe Gossman III
  18. Sarcasm notwithstanding... The sound from intense screaming to total silence was deafening. You could have heard a pin drop. It stayed that way when Dewig also got beat but built to a crescendo as MD pinned their way to victory!!
  19. They are pretty biased favorably towards Perry but MD really hasa not given them too much to be positive about!
  20. Unfortunately wish in one hand and spit in the other and see what fills up the fastest!
  21. I agree markio. There were a few tough draws but overall I was disappointed with the way they finished their matches.. Dane placed about where I thought he would. That will be a tough match again next week. Baker moves well. Just wish Dane had that quick single leg that his bro had. That was a thing of beauty to watch. Still pretty good after a 3 year layoff.
  22. The reason that MD is where they are now is because back in the late 1960's Coach Joe Gossman was tired of constantly getting beat by bigger and better wrestling schools in the central and northern Indiana areas and decided to DO something about it. He knew that the only way a small Catholic high school could afford to pay for a good wrestling program was through volunteerism and faith. He decided to put his efforts into developing the first feeder wrestling system in Evansville. He was very adamant about developing wrestling in Southern Indiana. His motto was always "What is good for MD wrestling is good for Southern Indiana wrestling and whatever is good for Southern Indiana wrestling will be good for ALL Indiana wrestling". He started raising the bar back then and every MD wrestler and MD coach since then has helped to elevate our sport. And every other wrestler and coach in Indiana who has set their sight on beating MD is part of that Legacy. I was there when it started and am part of that legacy. I follow Indiana wrestling and LOVE the way we(Indiana) have evolved into a competitive high school wrestling community. WE ARE.......MD
