  1. You are right. Just don't think it screams class in my opinion.
  2. I do. Great team. Great coaches. However, keep it about the kids. Don't draw attention to yourself with a hideous suit. Keep it classy Southside.
  3. McHugh's or McQ's? McQ's has good food, family oriented, and always wrestling fan friendly. If you are more old school, go across the street to Harry C's. All the local wrestling legends south of Washington Street used to convene there on Saturday nights. Great tenderloins and fried walleye!
  4. First in my memory was Lance's back hand spring in 86. My first memory of a celebration of this type of celebration was Bobby Weaver in the 84 Olympics.
  5. I'm not saying there are not studs in there. I'm saying, take your studs, and make the other kids in your community better. You can pay to wrestle other studs on any given Saturday. My reference was also made in regards to the staffs of these academies, not the wrestlers.
  6. Great post Zach! I think it's nuts to pay for workouts with coaches who have little or no college experience and/or accolades. Basically, you pay more money now days to attend what used to be RTC. With the exception of a few, those are mostly modified club practices with the majority of participants being JV or in junior high. IMO, these academies have taken quality kids away from the medium and smaller clubs and watered down our RTC's.
  7. This goes back before my time, but I thought there was riding time back in the 60's? I was told a wrestler was awarded 1 point for each minute of riding time. This was also a time when the wrestlers started with one foot on the inner circle and there were referee's decisions.
  8. I believe Cadets were in Warrensburg, Mo. Juniors were in the UNI Dome in Cedar Falls. I gotta go with Pease on this one as well.
  9. Coach Hurrle is a good one. I'm surprised nobody mentioned him before. I'd add Chauncey McDaniel and Al Morgan. Coach P is good, no doubt. However, when you compare him to some of these other great coaches, where does longevity come into play? Teaching and coaching in a public school is an entirely different ball game than having a good run then coaching elite wrestlers in a club. I'm sure I'll catch some slack on this one, but isn't it something to consider in a topic such as this?
  10. Cathedral vs. Delta had some great crowds in the 80's.
  11. Some kids need wrestling more than wrestling needs them. Good luck coach. I hope everything works out for your team and this young man.
  12. I can't believe you actually posted this. He "basically beat him" in a non-IHSAA event because of a call by a volunteer referee? If that is the type of criteria for these rankings, then none of them have any validity whatsoever. This sounds like one of the stories MattM mentioned about the CCC seeding meetings. They are both studs, but they can't both be #1 if they are in the same weight. If you are going to argue one over the other, please come up with something better than this.
  13. I remember you saying you lived in IPS when you were Caliboy. I don't remember you listing that as one of your reasons for leaving Manual for Perry. Again, where is the money for these "activities" supposed to come from?
  14. First of all, "our kids"? Didn't you leave IPS? Next, how can one man make sure inner city kids excel? Shouldn't that be the parents' responsibility? Finally, if the state takes over a school, why should IPS continue funding programs? If you still say yes, where should this money come from to do so?
  15. The state stepped in first. Basically the schools that are being taken over by the state are now charter schools and compete with IPS for enrollment so why would he fund them? His job is to educate IPS students, not charter school students. It's an unfortunate lose/lose situation for the students. However, the adiminstration is not failing the kids, the parents are failing them. Until education becomes important in the home, there isn't a whole hell of a lot an adminstrator, teacher or coach can do for them.
  16. Seems like he had a fair question to me being that James and McClurg are in the projected line-up and neither one of them attended Perry last year. Maybe you should relax on the ALL CAPS. Obviously you are from Perry and know something the rest of us don't know. The guy asked an honest question. Not like he accused you all of recruiting.
  17. I didn't think anyone in Munster has sharp objects. Too much of a risk to scratch a BMW or Benz.
  18. I've recently moved back to Indy after a 20 some year absence. But, from my OLD sources, this is true. It seems they (SPG) have some openings in the lighter weights and think he will help them knock off St. Ed's, AV etc. next year. My question, will the older brother stay at LN or go with?
  19. I kind of see your point. Maybe I don't completely understand the situation and you could shed some light. According to your first example, did they drop his area of study? Also, are you assuming he is paying to attend this university and study his chosen area of discipline. That would be different in my opinion. Or, do you think it's OK to leave an institution because they change assistant coaches? I would hope that most blue chippers realize many, if not most, DI schools change assistant coaches almost yearly. Personally, from what I've seen and read, Andrew could be successful at any institution he chooses. With only one year left and that close to a degree, I don't see the importance of assitant coach....if that's what your getting at by "holding up to their end of their bargain." It's not like this is going to cost him millions of dollars in the upcoming draft.
