  1. Boot, There was a thread on here awhile back about some superdad keeping his star wrestler back a year in middle school while also moving around the country to find the best situation for his kid. Over the top.
  2. "...or whatever other states have." I detect a lack of enthusiasm for a 1a state title! Better: Indiana State Champion.
  3. If Sims is 100% he'll get past Lefever to finally see Welch. Sims is a 3x state placewinner. Lefever?
  4. Cam Matteson, Elkhart Memorial, is my darkhorse pick at 145.
  5. Welch has handled Sims effortlessly so far. Cat, give it a rest. You don't know how dumb you look.
  6. Chill, MatCat. You're on your 3rd post. Nobody else from MD talks this way. Like it or not, MD is a slight underdog vs. Crown Point. Spend some time reading the board first, learn the players. Trash talk is for youtube.
  7. Sims has to be considered a big underdog at this point. Injured or not, he's managed to avoid Welch all this season after losing head to head last year more than once. Looking tough in the semi-state consolations this year after defaulting the semis to Welch (again) loses a lot of style points in anybody's book.
  8. Chicago suburb, next to Calumet City.
  9. 5:30pm Friday. Matches at 6:00.
  10. Wow, quoting bellmontfan's joke cost me a cool point! Just tryin' to help out. What gives?
  11. Joke: "...was a free agent until sectional."
  12. Bluebolt, Thanks for the Lannert info. But what happened to Mangold?
  13. navy80: "Boots will make the finals!" I hope so, but I hope he has a better game plan than losing again 8-0 to Goldman, Bloomington North in the semis. And that's assuming Goldman gets by Merrillville champ in the quarters.
  14. It was Rob Mallory, JV 152 until the varsity (name escapes me) got injured at the Oakwood Duals in St. Louis. Mallory placed 6th at State in 1998, I believe.
  15. What happened to my post? Did I violate board rules? It was I who pointed out that Arizona has six classes. This is the direction these things go, and it never stops.
  16. I've been waiting all year for someone to say Kayla Miracle or Sarah Hildebrandt are beasts! Somehow I don't think they would take it very well.
  17. Y2: "I will take a three time Oklahoma champion as being better than Mullins or Meska." Being a 3x Oklahoma state champ would be mighty if impressive if they were single class. If not, not so much. At least we know Mullins and Meska are legit.
  18. Please cite the source and quote it. I think MD sent 10 in 2003. That year was memorable for MD's 5 in the finals and 4 consecutive champs 145 - 171.
  19. It's a logical plan but the IHSAA would never approve it. They would never have a classed team state while keeping the individual state series single class. It's a risky idea because it's all or nothing. Your three class scenario would produce three sets of the same dominant teams year after year, segregated from the others. Class 2 would probably be MD and Yorktown year after year. Predictable and boring. In Ohio, for example, national powerhouse St. Paris Graham is Class II, and they blow away the field every single year - without ever getting to face Lakewood St. Edward, Class III. The Graham - St. Ed's dual meet is the real Ohio team dual state championship every year, and it happens in a regular season dual. Not ideal. Taking only one sectional champ in the individual would take us back to how it was in the 1960s and maybe early '70s. Is that what we want?
  20. md85, You're thinking 1996. Turner (130), Schroeder (189) and Boehman (285) lost in the ticket round of semi-state that year. Matt lost 6-2 to the Franklin Central '95 runnerup. Everyone else qualified.
  21. The record stands at 11 state qualifiers. 1996 MD - 5 semi-state champs, 5 runnersup and a third. All 14 advanced to semi-state and into the ticket round. 8 state placers. XCard is right, not as good as it could have been at State that year. 2003 and 1998 were actually better years for total team points at State. No snocones. Sorry. What I remember about '96 State was how stacked 125 was on both sides of the bracket with returning placewinners. I'm sure XCard can back me up on this one. Saturday morning quarterfinals was Paul Maldonado, ECC - Scott Schaefer, MD. That would be a great state championship match in a normal year. But that year the title went to Jason Baker, Bellmont (42-0)! It was this kind of state meet that makes me glad Indiana is single class wrestling. Everyone versus anyone at the same time under one roof. One wrestling community.
  22. I'm sure that the "kick this guy off the board, please" line for a good "first post" was just in jest. We sometimes have to have a thick skin to post on these boards regularly. What surprises me the most is not the IHSAA website making a mistake, but TheAncientElder (TAE) not catching it himself. Surely he had it in his record books accurately at the time, and was possibly even there at State that year. 1992 wasn't so long ago, and TAE is Indiana wrestling's unofficial historian. Had that DQ actually happened, I think almost everyone would have heard about it then. In 1990, when Evansville Harrison's 103 actually did get DQ'd for an illegal practice partner, how long was the delay by the IHSAA in DQ'ing Stevens, and how widespread was the news then? (Of course this was pre-wrestling board/pre-Internet so times are different.)
  23. "Crawl back in your hole?" That's harsh, man. I think Dawg is just saying that there's no point in continuing to rehash the lineups if neither fan base knows much of anything about the other team. Everybody pretending to know anything about the other team has pretty much had their say already. Team State attendance is down the last two years because MD and their huge fan base hasn't made it to state. So if we lose Team State it's all MD's fault (and Bush's - because everything else is ). I wonder if its a done deal or if the IHSAA would reconsider if the attendance figures at Center Grove pop up this year with MD there. I also wonder if Bobby Cox has ever bothered to drop in on Team State during the 15 years of its existence. Center Grove HS is only a few miles down the road from Indy. My gut tells me Cox is a basketball-only kind of guy.
  24. "Kevin Wilkinson" And all this time I thought "Coach Wilk" was former Penn Coach Henry Wilk. Doh! Am I the only one on this board that blundered into that faulty assumption?
