Below is a full list of the official qualifying scores for the 2012-13 IHSWCA Duals State Championships for all Indiana high schools based on their individuals? performances in the individual state series. Remember that these scores are dependent on a) your underclassmen?s performance and B) your full team?s projected ability to replace your seniors.  These scores do NOT tell us necessarily who was best this year, but gave teams a chance to prove who will be the best DUALS TEAMS next year.

Keep in mind the following selection procedures:

1. There are 4 automatic semi-state champion qualifiers for each class, plus 2 automatic Wildcard positions for each class.

2. The 3rd Wildcard will be voted on after this season is finished.

3. The 4th Wildcard will then be voted on next fall after a couple weeks of the season have completed from among the first available team and any other teams within 30 points (3A and 2A) or 35 points (1A).

4. Scores will be adjusted to reflect transfers, move-ins, and comeback situations before the final list of contenders for the 4th Wildcard vote is determined.

Here is a list of the automatic qualifiers for the event and the contending teams for the vote for the 3rd Wildcard position:

Class 3A

Merrillville Champ: Merrillville (4th overall)

Ft. Wayne Champ: Elkhart Memorial (20th)

New Castle Champ: Perry Meridian (1st)

Evansville Champ: Evansville Mater Dei (3rd)

1st Wildcard: Cathedral (2nd)

2nd Wildcard: Bloomington South (5th)

3rd Wildcard: Crown Point (6th) (automatic 3rd WC, because no other teams within 30 points of them)

Class 2A

Ft. Wayne Champ: Jimtown (2nd)

New Castle Champ: Southmont (13th)

Evansville Champ: Evansville Memorial (1st)

1st Wildcard: Yorktown (3rd)

2nd Wildcard: Danville (4th)

3rd Wildcard contenders: Heritage Hills, Leo, Muncie South (5th to 7th, respectively)

Ft. Wayne Champ: Adams Central (1st)

New Castle Champ: Milan (6th)

Evansville Champ: South Putnam (8th)

1st Wildcard: South Adams (2nd)

2nd Wildcard: Churubusco (3rd)

3rd Wildcard contenders: North Miami, Bremen, Fremont, Prairie Heights, Shenandoah, Union County (4th, 7th, 9th-12th, respectively)

Thanks for all the time you put into this.  I do have a few questions though.  Is the seeding set in stone or will it change based on next years season.  Also, will this correlate with the 1a, 2a, and 3a rankings on this site for next year?

I'm not in charge of the seeding, but I know the process has not been finalized.  It is worded very generally in the original write-up from the big coaches' meeting when the plan was hashed out for the event (but yes, it suggests being done according to up-to-date performance, not based on these scores).

First, I want to thank the "formula guys" who put countless hours of time into entering data and verifying stats for every wrestling school in Indiana!  Job well done.

1.  3rd Wildcard position:  This will need to be discussed at our next IHSWCA meeting.  I'm not sure any of us knew how this would

all unfold.  We will have to confer with the selection committee to decide on the most fair and reasonable criteria to decide this.

2. Seeding: Again, this has not been finalized yet.  As someone suggested already, my guess is that we will seed the event based on

current (next season) criteria and standings.

3.  Yes, official invitations will be sent to coach/AD.  I believe that is scheduled to happen by March 15.

One question that sticks out to me is why did you stay with the regional "Champs". If the intent is to get the best teams together why not just seed them 1-5 and if you have three from one area so be it? Not a criticism just curious as to what the thought process was.

The automatic bids based on Semi-State were heavly disscused by the committee and there are positives and negatives to both sides of the argument.  After a vote it was decided to go this route to get the tourney moving and put a quality product out there for the wrestling community.

How did Lewis Cass jump 13.98 points since Semi-State?

Their injured underclassman starter who didn't wrestle sectional but who qualified for semi-state last year had his points substituted for the value of a projected "replacement" starter for next year, as the points procedures prescribed.  We didn't add in the injury points until now.

I'm still confused on how the injury points are added-in.  Are injuries only taken into effect pre-Sectional, or are there different multipliers/points based on when the inury occurs?  Do underclassmen who are injured during sectionals (or the rest of the tournament) received any kind of points?

injury points are only awarded for wrestlers who did not wrestle this year or this tournament series due to an injury, but were atleast semistate qualifiers this year.

if a wrestler got hurt during the tournament series, then the school does not recieve any injury points.

To be clear: this was only for underclassmen (sophomores and juniors) who advanced to at least semi-state LAST year and didn't wrestle at all in the state series this year.  The value of one "replacement" wrestler for a lost senior on the team is subtracted and last year's level of advancement for the injured wrestler is added.  Only 6 teams submitted valid requests for this situation and were awarded points according to the procedures we published before the tournament.

To add to what Tyson has already stated. A reasoning behind this format was so that there'd be teams from across the state while still giving legitimate state title contenders an opportunity to compete. Having the top scoring team per semi-state allows for representation from 4 different areas of the state, with the remaining wildcard bids being earned by top programs.

The selection committee has all its procedures in place, but they're finalizing where they'll meet for the vote so that the invites can get out by the 15th.
