  2. Fishers RTC - Wednesday, May 15, 6-7:30 PM - Enter Door FH6, Walk Straight Down Long Hallway, Wrestling Room is in Auxiliary Gymnasium on the Right Clinician: Hunter Bates - NCAA National Qualifier For Wabash College - IHSAA State Placer - 3rd Year as Varsity Assistant Coach at Fishers High School

  4. Both Spencer Lee & Zane Retherford qualified for the 2024 Olympics to give the US men's freestyle team a full lineup in Paris. Lee went undefeated in impressive fashion to qualify. Retherford lost in the round of 16 to the Mongolian Ochir who then pulled him into repechage where Zane went 4-0 to qualify. Let's go USA!
  5. Yesterday
  6. Last I heard they wanted to bring the Hidlays on board
  7. I forgot about Valizadeh, he's probably the most promising given his age and will have to do until Khateri is old/good enough Khateri competed at 45kg around 10 months ago and he doesn't seem as big as Amouzad so I think he should be able to make 57kg (maybe with a big cut) Hopefully Sina Khalili can be our guy at 74kg. Khateri-Amouzad-Khalili-Yazdani/Ghasempour-Azarpira-Zare could be a solid 2028 FS team (let me dream lol).
  8. Funniest part is the one with a few good wins, Valizadeh was the only one who didn’t get sent. I’ve heard that Ahora Khateri is already around 57 kilos.
  9. we have tried Khari, Ahmad Javan, and Sarlak over the past few months and they all underperformed. We have no choice but to wait for a new guy to emerge at 57kg. My hopes are with Ahora Khateri, but he needs at least another 2-3 years
  10. Sarlak makes me want to claw my eyes out he’s so bad
  11. Sarlak loses to Kalzhan 7-2 in the QF. Kalzhan will have to beat Lee (USA) for Sarlak to have another chance in the repechage, but that is very unlikely... More likely is that we will not have a wrestler at 57kg in Paris. But that doesn't really matter since we don't have anyone that can compete for a medal anyway.
  12. Sarlak beats the Georgian 9-3 in the R16 and will wrestle Kalzhan (Kazakhstan) in the QF the American beat Zou 10-9 Zou beat Sarlak 6-2 in Sarlak's last Worlds. the loss was very unexpected but Zou turned out to be a very good wrestler at 57kg and he looks to be in good form here
  13. Sarlak beats Pirrodu (ITA) 4-2 in the R32 He faces 2024 Euros Bronze medalist from Georgia in the R16, he should win but ultimately to win a qualifying spot he will need to either (i) win his bracket (by defeating the winner of Spencer Lee / Zou Wanhou), or (ii) reach the SF of his bracket then defeat the losing semi finalist from the other bracket (likely to be either Horst Lehr or Aman from India). neither route seems likely

  17. Feels weird not seeing a Rooks in the IU lineup. They both had nice careers and were generally very reliable. Graham really turned it on later in his IU career. It's improbable for either state school to ever get a topnotch recruiting class. Money, the high talent level in topnotch programs' 'rooms', exposure...there isn't a lot of incentive to snub the big boys in favor of IU or Purdue, even if you're an Indiana native. IU and Purdue aren't getting our state's elite level recruits, which I realize isn't a new thing, but imagine if Angel Escobedo was a senior in HS right now. I highly doubt he hitches his wagon to IU in that scenario. I know I'm preaching to the choir--all of us Indiana/PU wrestling fans would love to field stronger teams, ideally with a majority of the very best high school guys from Indiana. Interesting to see if Taylor's hire impacts Carroll's performance next season. I could see the room at OSU overflowing with topnotch senior level talent in the next few years and steel sharpens steel.
  18. I know this isn't breaking news anymore, but I'm still stunned by this, mainly for Coleman Scott's sake. The timing of things is what really throws me. Scott had a very nice run at UNC, and one has to assume he thought he was next in line for the Pokes' head position. You can't fault OSU for bringing in someone who will move the needle, but the cautious part of my brain points out that great wrestlers don't always make great coaches. I think Taylor will succeed because of his massive appeal and recruiting success, kind of like when Brands was brought in to replace Zalesky at Iowa. Brands brought in Metcalf and other highly sought after recruits and revitalized an Iowa program that was stale at the time. Regarding Coleman Scott, it's pretty clear he'd make an excellent coach at most big programs. I wonder where his mind is right now.
  19. Does Leroy Vega get the Head Assistant position now that AJ Schopp is going to back to EDINBORO in PA? Who else can Purdue bring in to elevate the program? Brayton Lee? One of the Davidsons? Chad Red SR.?
  20. Draw for 57 Kg Olympic qualification https://www.instagram.com/p/C6t-V92oTwi/?igsh=MWx0eHlyeG81ZHZobQ==
  21. How do those schools keep the kids that are good enough to be varsity elsewhere (prior ihsaa qualifiers/placers, offseason iswa placers, etc.), but can't make their way into the varsity lineup at these schools?
  22. The kids that go to these schools are wrestling national level events during the season through their school. These are the same kids that are wrestling off season national events. A family should not have to forgo great national events and exposure for their child simply because of the wrestling program they are in. Kids see Brownsburg, Crown Point, and Center Grove being nationally ranked and, therefore, getting bigger events on their schedule. It is hard to argue for them to stay put in a program that is not nationally recognized with teammates that may not be year round wrestlers. Families and athletes want to be a part of something special. Being able to compete as a team for titles has a certain allure. Is this any different than other sports programs? Families will go where their child can get the best looks and have a high chance of success. If more programs had national level events for their athletes to compete in, would we see the amount of transfers happening?
  23. Not surprising, guess we'll just keep hearing about all the kids moving to Center Grove, Crown Point, Browsnburg etc. Really great for the sport.
  24. While at freestyle state this past weekend I heard the Malone family will be moving to Center Grove.
  25. Confirmed Teams: Bloomington South Decatur Central Bandits Fort Wayne Carroll Still room for one more team if you are interested! 5 duals for $200. Satellite weigh ins!
