  1. Altruistic of you to think that way.... but I just don't think that is the reality of wrestling in Indiana. Let's take it back to my time in high school (2007-2011). The tops dogs were still the big schools: Mishawaka, Crown Point, Perry Meridian, Warren Central, Lawrence North, etc.. A few small (public, sorry EMD) schools had some solid success (Bellmont, Yorktown) but nothing on the level of those big dogs. Just my 2 cents.
  2. Super big bummer if it is held in Evansville.
  3. Shout to my fellow Garrett High School alum, Clayton Fielden, as he'll be competing at 184 as the 13 seed. Super proud of him! #RBT
  4. 2011-2012 106 lbs.: 1st S. Miccic 2nd N. Boston 3rd H. Lee 4th S. Miller Lots of college success with those 4 as well.
  5. Thank god the old man that is Spencer Lee will be done after this year. Dude is about as old as me and I've been out of college for 7 years....
  6. Saw it early in this thread, but I give the nod to Jason Tsirtsis.... Tshirts beating Cashe in the semis as a freshy was epic. Still my favorite match I've watched in person. Sure, Mendez beat a former state champ, too. But let's be real Watts was never on Quiroga's level. Cashe was a frickin AA at Purdue.
  7. Cheyanne Welch is a FRESHMAN - Carroll High School (FW)
  8. I mean, you've coached under the lights while Fielden hasn't.
  9. Meanwhile, I've still not fully adjusted to the new weights that were brought out in 2011-2012.....
  10. Very well said, BTG! Semi state weekend is a great one.
  11. Leo's Justin Woods in 2007-2008, 215 LB state champ, just annihilated every single person that year.
  12. Hayden Lee (Garrett High School & Marysville HS, Ohio) --- 2 time Indiana semi state champion, soph. 3rd Place, jr. 5th Place, State Champion (In Ohio sr. year), D1 wrestler for 3 seasons, NAIA National Champion at Cumberlands.
  13. Pretty much any Yorktown team from 2010-2015. They finished in the top 5 at state a few times if I'm not mistaken.
  14. NICK is indeed the Indiana GOAT.
  15. It appears that the legendary Coach Kearby from Columbia City passed away yesterday, unfortunately due to a car accident. Never wrestled for him, but he was an assistant football coach of mine at Garrett many years ago. Great coach and an even better man. Thought the northeast Indiana wrestling community would like to be aware... https://www.wane.com/news/local-news/man-dies-following-collision-with-cement-truck-on-u-s-27/
  16. He's on the "Mount Rushmore" of Indiana wrestling legends for sure. Hard to compare eras, especially with how big travel wrestling and tournies have gotten in the last ten years alone. He's a top legend all day, though.
  17. Surprised this doesn't happen more often. Always figured that Kurt Angle couldn't be the only real wrestler to make the jump to the fake stuff.
  18. Myself, unfortunately. (Esp, given the fact that the rest of my family ended up doing way better than me). Guess I'm living proof of the "coulda, woulda, shoulda" mindset. lmao
  19. Anthony Lovejoy from Luers is a name that comes to mind (multi-time placer). Also, can't forget the Lefever brothers from Carroll. All 3 of them were placers and we all know how well Riley did in college. Fielden from Garrett would also be another good name to throw in.
  20. If running to a better overall regular season schedule in the lead-up to the state tourney, yeah. Still had to beat some dogs to win his title in Ohio.
