  1. Perry Meridian will host its first RTC of the season Tuesday February 27 from 6-7:30. Two guest clinicians will show some technique and then we will wrestle. 2018 State Champ Noah Warren will be on hand along with 2x champ and 3x finalist Cody LeCount. These guys are opposite ends of the wrestling spectrum so I can't wait to see what they put together. Enter Door 1 (main entrance), go straight and turn left to the room.
  2. How is Alec’s opportunity any different than cadet 100 or 106 at Folkstyle State?
  3. Can I ask what is so different between this tournament and Folkstyle State that is 2 weeks after? I know the age divisions would be different with Cadets/Juniors. For a couple years I had talked to some people about having a Junior Varsity state as a way to get more kids to extend their season. Include all kids that didn't wrestle in a sectional. I know some other states have a JV state. I am not against the tournament at all and we will have some Perry kids wrestle. I just don't see the huge difference between this and the Cadet age group at Warren Central.
  4. So what sets these coaches a part? Don't get me wrong, Chad, Dustin, CIA, Region Elite, Pride and others are great. Last year Mauer Coughlin ran one practice a week in our room. I am not saying kids shouldn't go, but I know quite a few high school coaches that do all of the things listed for all ages of their program. Trust me, I know all about the community aspect. I actually am going to use your post in our end of the year banquet. Frankly, a lot of our kids at Perry don't have the resources (parental support/money) to get over to an academy. We try to create this atmosphere in our room. I had an academy coach ask me last year why we don't send more kids to them. It isn't that we discourage it, but it is hard to get kids and parents to get to all the things we create here in our program. Some of our kids get out and go to other training opportunities, but most don't have the ability. I guess you could say that is why PM has finished 2nd, 3rd, 2nd and 2nd in the last 4 team state championships. The one thing that you can't deny is getting a bunch of state champs in a room whipping on each other. That helps kids for sure. I think having someone new give instruction is good as well. It usually reinforces the what we teach and also can show things a little different. I know not all programs do what we do, but I know some are pretty close. Don't forget to come to our RTC on Tuesday nights this spring...6:00-7:45! Coach Richardson PM
  5. Thanks bro. We have skirted this many times this year.
  6. Fabio, how much does the school help when you travel and stay in hotels? Sorry to high jack the thread...just curious.
  7. Back in 04 or 05 Perry Meridian had 1100 for our Freestyle/Greco tourney. Over 800 freestyle. This was at the middle school and yes it was ridiculous.
  8. Perry Meridian is excited to have the Purdue coaching staff at RTC tonight, 5/2. We will go from 6:00 to 7:30. Lets pack the room tonight for the boilers.
  9. Tuesday 4/24 Perry Meridian RTC will be run by Coach Steven Bradley and Marion University. Coach Bradley was a 3 time Indiana State Champ and a Junior College runner-up. During his collegiate coaching career he has helped guide 33 all-americans, 73 national qualifiers and three national champions. We will go from 6:00-7:30 with a lot of live wrastlin.
  10. PERRY MERIDIAN will host Joliet Junior College coaching staff Tuseday 4/18 6:00-7:30 Joliet will once again be competing at the Junior College level and is located in the Chicago area. Coach Blahut has some good Illinois kids committed, but he would love to add some Indiana studs to his team. Coaches, if you have kids that might want to go the Junior College route this is a great opportunity to meet Coach Blahut. Last week we had an excellent room. There will be some technique then live wrestling as usual. A.J. Blahut is in his first year at Joliet Junior College as the head wrestling coach. He comes to JJC from Bradley-Bourbonnais Community High School where he was the head wrestling coach. Blahut was also an assistant coach at BBCHS for several years. Previous to that, he was head coach at Manuel Academy in Peoria. He began his coaching career at Lincoln-Way North in 2010. Blahut has coached many state placers, qualifiers as well as many sectional, regional and conference champions. Blahut wrestled for Lincoln-Way Central where he was a four-year varsity starter winning over 100 matches and earning numerous other accomplishments. He went on to wrestle collegiately for Lincoln College, University of Nebraska at Kearny and Bloomsburg University. At Lincoln, Blahut was an NJCAA Qualifier at 184lbs and an NJCAA All-American, placing 5th, at 174lbs. He also served as a team captain of the Lincoln College team that finished in the top ten at the NJCAA National Tournament both years. He was also a two-time Academic All-American. Blahut earned an Associate's in Arts degree from Lincoln College before completing Bachelor's Degrees in History and Education from Bloomsburg University. He also holds a Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instructions from Bloomsburg. Blahut has taught Physical Education, and is currently teaching Western Civilization and United States history at BBCHS.
  11. Have to edit my original post. I just got word that 4 time National Champ Riley Lefever will be at Perry Meridian's RTC tonight (4/11) along with All American Nick Bova. Last week's room had a lot of high school studs and college studs helping out. Come get better with some Wabash hammers from 6-7:30.
  12. Just think, these guys can all wrestle each other again in two weeks at Folkstyle State.
  13. I counted 24 for Marion County. I did include Cathedral as they are in Marion County. I really admire the love that is shared between Avon and Brownsburg. Instead of rivalry, it is a brotherhood.
  14. Absolutely. There are a few freshman/sophomore tournaments out there. The problem is there aren't many teams with a bunch of Freshman.
  15. Y2 beat me to it. About four years ago our JV team was uninvited to a fairly large JV tourney. Our team ran away with the tourney, and the coach said that having us there wasn't good for his guys. The host school of this tourney is a top 10% team/school for sure. Most of the time when we try to get our varsity 2 team into a tournament we are told no thanks. Most of the time we are filling in a vacancy (when we get an invite) that the host school needed to fill. I know it is better to have our second team in there battling than having a bye at a super dual or 7 teams in an 8 team bracket. The main reason we began wrestling our 2nd team at varsity tourneys was because we had trouble getting matches for our non-varsity competitors. We wrestled a top 10% school this year in a dual and only wrestled 3 JV matches. No one wants to stay out for the team and wrestle 5 times a year. There aren't a lot of JV events and we have a lot kids out for the team. My questions is should we limit competition to the top 2 or 3 in each weight class? I wish we could have a Freshman, JV and Varsity schedule, We started wrestling our middle school second team against other schools about 10 years ago at the request of the opposing schools. I know MS is different, but at least some feel having a more competitive dual was more beneficial. Last, I am not naive to the points you are making. I do get what you are saying. I have tried to think of my Varsity team in the same situation, but it wouldn't compare to a middle class team getting beat by a top tier JV. Shaun Richardson PM
  16. Depends on he defense being played. The free safety is a free hitter and comes flying up on the run...especially outside run. The fact that he has 12 tackles and 2ints is impressive.
  17. Alright fellas. I heard some discussion about some states moving to fight shorts and compression shirt. I know at the high school level we haven't gone there yet. Our Middle School is getting new singlets this year. I would like to go with the fight short/compression top instead. Do you see any problems with this for Middle School? I really think this uniform would increase participation much more in the middle grades. The real question: If we do this, do you think there would be any officials that might have a problem with this? I know some schools make the the MS rules as we go(head gear not mandatory, length of matches, weight classes, weight allowances, etc.) Thanks
  18. Avon has a good team and was in a tough pool. Perry Meridian 0 graduated seniors 0 from other schools Hopefully they can come back and get third.
  19. Iowa has there Freestyle and Greco state this weekend. Looks like Indiana has about 250 more kids at state(minus the Juniors).
  20. Coach Hull already mentioned that very few of his kids needed an additional "qualifier." I coach at Perry and that is the same for us. We had 80 some kids from our club wrestle in our freestyle tourney. I believe we had about 50 wrestle at Warren's freestyle/Greco. I haven't looked, but I would guess we will have around the same wrestle at Franklin this Saturday. I was there at Warren's phantom 3-way. Coach Hull is a little off. The number was more like 160. We put kids in groups of 4 and had a round robin. Aside from a running clock there wasn't much different from a Saturday tourney. There were high school kids officiating along with 3 blue shirt "pros." We had parents mad because the score was wrong, coaches telling parents to let them coach, etc. It was great. Our club had talked about doing something similar as a fundraiser. I understand that most of the people upset aren't lucky enough to have 3 tournaments close(Perry, Warren, Franklin for us), so it seems like this was just done to help kids qualify for state. We talked about putting some duals together after seeing some of the dual tournies on the weekend. Coach Richardson PM
  21. The hyped match for 95 was the James Leavell and Vernon Cannon. These two wrestled like five times. Cannon only won one I believe, but they were all close. These two were so good that they went different weight classes at Senior Nationals...both won.
