  1. Anyone know Mason's walking around weight?
  2. What does that mean? Has he been coached by Cael and wrestling with the varsity in the room?
  3. Has Nick Lee literally been in the Penn St practice room as a regular wrestler this year? What weight is he projected at for next year?
  4. ??? Are you referring to Chad Ruggeri? That was Dexter's sophomore year. Dex lost several times his Jr year, (both to Kasten I believe). I would put Dexter as a SR ahead of Ruggeri by a large margin, although Ruggeri is one of the most exciting heavies to watch. My thoughts exactly.
  5. Regarding the injury, I would like to mention the following. I'm not familiar with Lee's individually specific injury but it is not uncommon to have an injury that will not endure further damage from additional activity. It is potential medically accurate to tell the kid that if he can handle whatever pain he has, then he is free to do as he wants. It doesn't mean Lee was 100% but it also doesn't mean anyone was negligent in advising him that it is fine/safe to continue wrestling.
  6. Surprised to see Dan Jankowski not get any love on here. I would put him ahead of some state champs.
  7. Obviously others didn't have the chance. The point I'm making is the Lee match isn't a great reason to say Red is the best ever when he barely beat another Indiana wrestler. That argument only works if one determines Lee is the second best ever.
  8. Macke wasn't physically imposing. Appeared to have decent but not overwhelming strength. Speed was perhaps below average for a state champion contender. Solid but not spectacular on his feet. His talent was mat wrestling. He was a beast on top. Choosing bottom against him was a mistake. He was great at tuns and tilts and riding out state caliber opponents for a whole period. He was definitely someone that maximized his talent. Macke's (senior year) notable losses include Dustin Schlatter (St. Paris Graham Ohio) when Schlatter (sophomore) was viewed as the next big thing (which he would become). I think the score was 10-6 and apparently Macke was in position to win late. Then also at state against Angel in the semis. Forget the score (5-2?) but it was an example of an over matched wrestler (Macke) wrestling a great tactical match to give himself a chance against a superior opponent. Angel and his superior speed and neutral wrestling were something Macke could never handle.
  9. One argument against Red is the win against Lee. Is the best Indiana high school wrestler ever really just one point better then the runner up his senior year?
  10. Washington is also in the Eastern time zone.
  11. How likely is it the U.S. qualifies the unqualified weights? Who is the likely Russian competitor at Burroughs's weight? Fyi, as someone that only follows freestyle during Olympic years I find the current version of the freestyle rules to be outstanding.
  12. He's in his early thirties so the answer is 25-30 years.
  13. I remember a rumor at the time saying Hump would have stayed at 135 if they could have been assured of a Finals match up, and not a semi-finals match up.
  14. I don't know...Angel's technique in that video leaves something to be desired.
  15. I was watching the Grantland Oscar preview and Angel made an unexpected appearance. He is around the 10:10 mark of this video. http://espn.go.com/video/clip?id=espn:12350005&startTime=10:06 If that link doesn't work try this one. http://espn.go.com/video/clip?id=espn:12350005 ..
  16. A wrestler should always try and wrestle "their" match. Whatever strategy gives you the best chance of victory based on your strengths and weakness is what you should do. I remember a match in which the following action occurred: First period ends no score. Second period wrestler A has choice and chooses neutral. Second period ends with no score. Third period starts and wrestler B takes down. Wrestler A cuts wrestler B to start the period. Wrestler A gets a takedown with less then one minute to go and the action goes out of bounds and is now leading 2-1. Wrestler A cuts B, the match is now 2-2 and the period ends and goes to OT. Wrestler A wins in OT with a TD. Was that good strategy or not for wrestler A? Wrestler A was Andrew Howe (sophomore year) and wrestler B was Nick Walpole (defending state champ)
  17. What were the team results? Did the Mt Vernon lead hold up? What was the match score/situation at the time of the Konrath injury?
  18. The 03 MD team was the one that lost a duel to St Paris Graham. Macke gave Schlatter a tough match and Maurer lost to Joe Dennis.
  19. Those photos of Jason after the semi-final win with blood down his face are priceless. One need not know anything about wrestling or Jason to understand what those photos say. I better see those photos displayed during Big ten network commercials with Jason.
  20. \ Bottom wrestling appeared to be Alex's biggest flaw in college. If I'm not mistaken, Alex was rode an entire period Friday night at state his senior year. It foreshadowed what was to come in his college career. I have no knowledge of Jason's school age coaching but I can't help but think efforts were made to build him into a more well rounded wrestler prior to entering college. After all, stud high school wrestlers are rarely on bottom.
  21. What was the score or competitiveness of the Chambers/Fischer match at the time of the fall?
  22. Huh? Patton was the one seed.
