and they're making Bermudez jump up a weight division.  Kenney agreed to fight Bermudez 5 pounds heavier at a catchweight prior to the weigh ins when it was evident Bermudez wasn't going to make weight.  Bermudez weighed 160 something on fight night.  Glad to see the UFC make him move up a division.

Kenney dumped him on his head nicely with that throw!

Apologies if I have missed a post on this already on the board.

As you already know, Coach Rex Peckinpaugh has announced his retirement as head coach of the New Castle Trojans. I will not attempt to summarize his statement since it, like everything Rex does, was so well done. Check it out on Facebook.  Rex thought long and hard about his decision and I am confident he has done the best thing, like always. Reading the posts from past Trojan wrestlers and friends of the program was like taking a walk back through time. Seeing the names with the posts sparked a lot of fond memories (except for when we wrestled them). Rex has been a leader and influential voice in Indiana high school wrestling so long that it is difficult to remember when he wasn't a force or to envision a future without him in that role. The good news is that Rex has no intention of disappearing. I'm sure we will see him at events and continue to enjoy his company.

Thanks, Rex for all you have done to raise the profile of the sport in Indiana. The stats are truly amazing: Over 1000 dual meet wins, a win streak of over 100, dozens and dozens of state finalists, team runners-up in some epic matches and helping to host an awesome Semi-State, freestyle tournaments and Middle School State.

But more than that, thanks for being such a great friend, rival and role model for how to treat athletes. There simply are no better people in the sport than the New Castle Wrestling Family.

Jesse was scored on 4 times. Dalton Huffman got a takedown, Ethan Kaiser got a reversal, JJ Conway got a takedown, and Watts scored on Jesse in the semi finals.

Jesse’s only match against Serrano was the win at Akron(7-7 criteria win).

that shows how tough some in state kids are to actually go after him as well! scary part is that he gets better every time.

Best of luck to him. I was told by a good friend a couple years ago to keep an eye on this kid named Jesse Mendez. Was told that he is the next 4Xer and could possibly be the best ever here in Indiana. I always take that with a grain of salt, UNTIL his routing of everyone last year. His display that he put on at state was something special to watch and confirmed what my friend had told me. It’s truly a treat as a wrestling fan to witness something like this. The last person that I recall that was just this dominant was Jason Tsirtsis. And he very well could be even better than TShirts when it’s all said and done. Go get’em kid.

J.tsirtsis lost multiple times and had close match vs Devon jackson who's a 3x under the lights finalist(this takes nothing from his accomplishments and i'm splitting hairs here) .Jesse hasn't hardly given up any offensive points if any yet ...Angel Escobedo and Alex Tsirtsis were the most dominant I've seen next to mason parris... Lance Ellis ws ws decent too😂..but I'll say this Jason beat #1 nationally ranked guy as a freshman and no other guy can say that ...but then again Jesse is #1.

This is true there is only 1 wrestler per weight for both styles. Sunday will be the freestyle portion. If anyone wants to watch, wrestling begins at 11:30 central time and then finals at 6pm. To watch go on Facebook and look up 2019 Team USA Cadet Pan Am Team group. There is a mom that goes live with all the matches, plus you can watch today’s matches.

Thank you to all wrestling families that donated and helped give Jesse this opportunity. We had families from all corners of Indiana help in some way. Also thank you to all the coaches that passed on some of their wrestling knowledge to my guy.

y'all are making Indiana wrestling so proud! Get that double gold Monster Mendez..I can only imagine if Silas was there healthy as well.. Any insight on how you think Silas stacks up vs the field? It's unreal and surreal to have HS Indiana boys dominating not only the state but the national level dominance as well that's proved to be more than enough to compete internationally is something to behold... There's enough ppl on this board and around the state that have seen elite in state talent over the years and up to this point he's doing things that a 10x more rare than being a 4xer (pulled that figure out of my rear) it speaks volumes about Jesse and his whole support system.. I'll be watching tomorrow rooting y'all on.. Take from them what they won't give you Jesse Mendez!

I believe Brown County ran a front head and arm like that when the Ritchie Brothers were there.  They would lockup an inside cradle off of it when the kids would start to go out.  Refs would stop it for being potentially dangerous if they realized what it was.  It was TIGHT

yes the curtis kid was running it with his head deep in the hole and could've too went for the cradle.

JT Young used to run it like a professional BJJ player.

yes he was nasty all around... use to see him at Adam's Central tournament and my team mate wrestled in a pretty darn good match.

    Sounds like a darce choke!

upon further review I watched it 10x straight af realized he did have Joe's arm encircled and was just running a heavy front headlock but Joe didn't circle with him and by him fighting it, it made the front head tighter and u can see joe tap as hes losing consciousness but the ref was on the other side..I thought the kid didn't have the arm and I was wrong and didn't know what I was looking at lol...It ws a damn good front head lock

  9. anybody see Joe Walker match vs Colton curtis? curtis used a front choke in order to put joe unconscious and pin him.. That ref had no idea what she was looking at and that was illegal...Joe ws twitching and everything..smh I seen this happen to my team mate in 03 at state vs Dan Bedoy (ended up being a high level BJJ player) garrard had no idea what hit him.

  10. Indiana Mat gorilla Gold Ended up 8th in the gold All Star pool and had to battle through many injuries and forfeits... They had 5 guys recieve all American medals for at least going 7-3 and or better..Graham Calhoun,Trizton Carson,Breyden Lowery,Adam ledesma and Brayden Erb all defeated many state champions and state placers to lead their team in a stacked All star Division..Carson Took down Darrien Roberts..Robert will be attending Ok State triz was giving him all he wanted the first 2 periods where it was tied up until the 3rd...but Robert's ended up getting multiple takedowns and winning handily by major decision..I'm very proud of this group's effort and also the Outlaws for getting to the semi finals of a loaded All star division.. indiana def represented!

FCFighter 170--So many people worked so hard to get streets cleared and power back on. It was truly amazing to see the speed with which the clean up proceeded. Thanks for your help!

    Dave

yes it was a huge effort among many ppl! I'd do it again tomorrow if need be and I know it could easily be my own community that needs help so i'm always there! poor falls park took a beating but it'll be rebuilt soon enough.

As many of you know, my hometown of Pendleton was hit by a tornado this week. In spite of the tremendous damage there were no fatalities and only one injury which was, thankfully, not life threatening. While I love my hometown, the community I am referring to in the title is the Indiana Wrestling community. I have received numerous calls from wrestling coaches checking on my family's welfare and offering assistance. Coach Duncan and some of his Frankton Eagle wrestlers came down to help in the cleanup this week. I am profoundly grateful to have as rivals such friends who took the time to reach out. Our town will recover and be better than before, albeit without as many trees. The wrestling community will always be a source of strength and pride for me, like it is for all of you. Thank you all for your caring and concern. Local charities are accepting donations but if you are of a mind to contribute may I humbly recommend the Red Cross in your community. They were on the scene almost immediately after the storm and set up a relief center at the high school. I encountered another Red Cross team today during my visit to a site where some of our wrestlers will be working tomorrow to assist a local wrestling family. The RC volunteers assured me they would be in town until they help everyone get back on their feet.

I was in town cutting trees off power lines!  man it was a MESS but quickly everybody pulled together and got it functioning again... just glad everybody is ok
