  1. I wrestled against two of them and the other was the scariest high school wrestling specimen I’be ever seen in person. I’ll let you guess who is who.
  2. I think it’s worth also pointing out the Girls Ironman Results. Kendall Moe of Hamilton Heights was runner up at 100. Rianna Murphy from Indiana attending Wyoming Seminary won the title at 105
  3. For those that don’t recall or never heard, Alex Tsirtsis was invited to the Midlands Tournament his senior year of HS. Something that had only occurred twice prior to that with Jimmy Carr and Cary Kolat being invited. Surprisingly the IHSAA even allowed him a rare waiver for him to compete there. At that point The Midlands was clearly toughest in season college event in the nation. He went 2-2 with both his loses coming by low scoring decisions against Top 10 seeded guys. Solid results for a high schooler.
  4. I'll say it again middle school wrestling is the Wild West of sports. It's basically a free for all and I agree some of its a little ridiculous.
  5. And Mendez followed up his win over #4 Hardy with a 5-3 win over NC State’s #7 Ryan Jack to take home the title. He’s for sure in the 141 NCAA Finals conversation now. Lucas Davison also had a solid weekend earning a runner-up finish.
  6. Flo just doesn’t have the cardio to get their guys through a full match.
  7. Love this event. It's turned into one of the premier in-season tournaments.
  8. I may be bias but I like the that kids fortitude.

  10. While Doyle has been in love with chasing any IHSAA related controversy lately, I’m not sure this matter would have the “teeth” for a worthy hit piece on them.
  11. I know that New York recently approved Freestyle as the girl's wrestling style in HS, which aligns with the women's college style. I'd say that could be a good guess for the murmurs.
  12. Not sure Y2 wants that legal situation. It maybe accessible (at least afterward) through some FloWrestling/TrackWrestling agreement though.
  13. Seymour holding steady at 8 young ladies, spread across 6 to 7 weight classes. One returning Sophomore state qualifier. The rest are Freshmen, with most of them having prior experience from middle school.
  14. See two posts above yours for more details.
  15. I was able to watch one of Henryville's Middle School meets last year. That group has some pretty sound fundamentals and was well coached. Some southern teams should definitely try to get them on the schedule if they have an opening. I'm looking forward to seeing the team's development as these young guys dive into the High School level.
  16. If I recall correctly the last few year the wrestle offs were streamed on social media from wrestling room.
  17. Is the JV State taking the place of the previous Fresh/Soph State? Or is it an additional event?
  18. He lived in Indiana at one time. Moved to North Dakota when brother went to school there. Sounds like he’s back in the Hoosier State again.
  19. I agree with most of the above but you have to also consider Olympic Redshirts will likely change some of the weight class field.
  20. The understood plan for a couple years now was he’d be at 141 for most of his career and the hope was Bouzakas could maintain 133. So I’m sure he was preparing to acclimate to 141 this season if the coaches weren’t planning on throwing a redshirt on him. I feel with the coaching instruction and room talent mendez will be competitive against the top guys at 141. But we will see as the season progresses if his coaches can help him figure out the strategy necessary to defeat them. With 3 of the other top 5 in the Big10, hopefully Jesse can get a match against them early (I hate the strategic ducking). Although we didn’t see it consistently in his freshman campaign (chalk some up to being a true freshman) I feel he’s decent at making solid adjustment for those rematches.
  21. Some of the top countries haven't always sent their main guys to the U23 competition in the past. I'd assume part of that has to do with those wrestlers also preparing for Senior-level events. Also, if I recall they dropped the event awhile in the early 2000s, so that may play a factor in some countries being slow to become interested in it again. The U20 even seems to have become a little more consistent with attracting the best young talent that their country feels could be on the cusp of making a Senior-level splash for the next Olympic cycle.
  22. Sorry for the late notice but I just saw that as part of the yearly Heartland Film Festival a showing of the movie Helen|Believe will be occuring on Sunday in the Indianapolis area. Sun, Oct 8th, 7:30 PM @ Glendale Landmark Theater 10 https://hiff2023.eventive.org/schedule/64ecb05903c8af007176004c "HELEN|BELIEVE" tracks Helen Maroulis, America's first female Olympic gold medalist in freestyle wrestling (Rio '16), from being the best wrestler in the world into a series of concussions, forced retirement and institutionalization, through her PTSD struggles and eventually into her comeback at the Tokyo Olympics and World Championships in Oslo.
