  1. Johnson may be the actual favorite to win this match. I think he beat Wright fairly easily the two times he won.
  2. Just found this video of Pavletic
  3. The Clark Kent of Indiana High School wrestling.
  4. "This video is used here with permission of Josh Bird’s father, Kevin Bird, who posted it to YouTube today asking viewers “to be the judge” and consider whether Josh Bird’s opponent was targeting his injured knee." The father said he thought the kid was targeting his son's injured knee? I will watch again, but I never saw that. I watched the video before reading the article to see if I could figure out what the problem was going to be and that thought caught me off guard. No way that kid was pushing him out of bounds. At least two punches to the face from what I saw. He deserves to miss his chance to be a three time champ.
  5. The head official actually said this? I really doubt that the head official would bad mouth other officials mat side at the tournament. Even if the official made the incorrect call. I would think it would be a little more politically correct than the way you put it, if anything was said like this at all.
  6. I enjoyed it much more at EC this year. Only thing obvious to me as far as a glitch this year was the placement of the spot light during introductions. Easy fix for next year. That and my back was killing me (getting older) so I had to leave halfway through the finals. That may not be an easy fix for next year.
  7. Not sure if it was posted anywhere else, but I thought East Chicago did a very good job with the tournament Saturday. Everything but the placement of the spotlight during the finals introductions seemed to be spot on from what I could see. Plenty of seating and as usual great wrestling. Heck, there were even shuttle buses in the parking lot to take you from one side of the school to the other so you didn't have to freeze walking.
  8. I wouldn't consider that an upset. I think Embery was a ticket rounder last year and only one loss on the season so far. The kid is a brute and very athletic.
  9. Bethorne is going to be a match up problem for just about anyone. Very strong and incredibly flexible.
  10. I think the majority of the football coaches know the benefits of wrestling. I coached under Chris Meeks at Rensselaer for several years before he decided to concentrate on Football....with great results I might add. He has pushed for his kids not playing a winter sport to come out for wrestling. I know I am preaching to the choir when I say it is a very difficult sport with little recognition when compared with football or basketball.....so not always the most attractive to kids these days. Good Lord....I sound like my grandpa.
  11. This is the point I will bring up to some kids who claim they are not doing a winter sport because they want to "lift for football." Way more often than not, they hit the weights a couple times before being a couch potato for the rest of the winter. I have tried telling some kids if they truly want to get better at football, they need to get in the wrestling room. By the way, I know there are supposed to be spaces after the period to end a sentence. Not sure why it shows up when I type, but not after it is posted to the forum.
  12. BOOOOOO!!! Just kidding, Coach. You guys have things rocking in the north end of Jasper County. PS....change your name, traitor.....or change the Steeler helmet to either the Bears or better yet a Cubs hat.
  13. locoz, how much of the lack of motivation comes from the score? Did Mater Dei expect it to be lopsided and not wrestle with their normal intensity?
  14. That is tough to say. The Lafayette sectional has a ton of good wrestlers this year. I will defer that to somebody who has seen them more than I have. I know Jeff is tough at almost every weight.
  15. 106 is a toss up right along with 120. Webb beat Mcartney 10-1 last year at regional, but lost to Coon last week. I was impressed with Coon's aggressiveness and how physical he was when BC came to visit the Bombers. I hope so. I dread the Semi State topic each year when the joke is how many #1 from Logan will get picked off in the first round by a #4.
  16. nothing but gibberish and gobbledygook in here
  17. I don't know the ins and outs of Perry's program (or about much of anything really) but abandoned is a strong word. Sometimes things come up in life that are more important than High School wrestling.
  18. I don't know his status at this point, but keep the 120 pounder from Jay County in your prayers. He was wrestling in the finals at Twin Lakes on Saturday and took a shot for a double leg in the second period. He had head to head contact and lost consciousness and the match was stopped. I think he was in and out of consciousness a few times before being transported to the hospital by medics.
  19. I see Cummings wrestled 120 here, and also has an earlier match where he beat Reitz from Griffith at 120. Any idea if he is staying at 120 or will he be at 113 when all is said and done?
  20. Only 6 kids ranked at 106 and 7 at 113 when the rest have 8? Not complaining, just wondering. And, you could put up a blank list for every weight class and the simple fact it is now the East Chicago SS and not Merrillville would make it a top notch list in my book.
  21. Was walking up to them nude part of the strategy?
  22. I once saw a kid not make weight when he was a tenth of a pound over due to the ankle monitor he had to wear because he was on house arrest.
