  1. I agree that whatever got Pariano fired has everything to do with this. Whatever happened, I can't believe it hasn't been leaked yet...
  2. Probably a college topic but... http://www.flowrestling.org/coverage/252694-Wrestling-News-2015-16/article/37525-Stevan-Micic-Granted-4-Years-Of-Eligibility#.Vkuoj15GdxB
  3. I love the opportunity to plug my Alma Mater here. If he is serious about a career in the medical field and wants to have a great chance to get into grad school, I'd recommend he looks into Wabash College. I actually suspect that Wabash may be "Option A" in this scenario. Take a look at grad school placement rates, you'll be astonished! Here's a link to the "colleges that change lives" brief on Wabash http://www.ctcl.org/colleges/wabash#academics
  4. Be careful getting hung up on a Major or a specific degree. There are a few certain things you need a very specific program/degree for but most majors can be interchangeable. A "business" degree can be very generic as can things like pre-law or pretty much "pre" anything. Any accredited college will be able to get you to graduate school or into ALMOST any field you want to go into. I'd probably pick the school that is stronger academically overall.
  5. Even if we don't understand the Tsirtsis Seed, I think he has a much easier road to the finals than if he had gotten the 1 seed. His semi finals opponent is likely going to have wrestled at least two top 8ish opponents before even getting to he quarters...
  6. 125 - #5 Conaway 133 - #1 Chris Dardanes 141 - #1 Logan Stieber 149 - #2 Jason Tsirtsis 157 - #3 James Green 165 - #3 Taylor Walsh 174 - #2 Matt Brown 184 - #5 Kenny Courts 197 - #4 Nathan Burak 285 - #4 Bobby Telford 1.) Iowa 2.) Penn State 3.) Ohio State
  7. What other argument is there? I don't buy the whole "pride of being the only state champion" thing because I've never seen anyone in a classed state be disappointed in a state medal from a lower division. I firmly believe that adding a second class would still leave us with an exclusive class of wrestlers at state AND would help increase the popularity of the sport.
  8. This is the only argument against class wrestling. There is some nominal amount of entertainment value lost because there are some matches that we simply will not get to see materialize. We will lose a lot of the underdog and feel good stories of small school guy beating big school guy. I don't think that is enough of a reason to keep it as an individual tournament when there are clearly other advantages to classing.
  9. Seems that there is some wiggle room here in that they have to be within 300 miles from the Indiana state boarder, not necessarily 300 Miles from the event site...
  10. The best to never win usually comes after state is over. I don't really remember the best to never place. Surprised by the lack of where is everyone eating and shaved ice threads though
  11. Estil Ritter, Bloomington: 1924, 175; 1925, 175; 1926, Hwt.; 1927, Hwt. Willard Duffy, Muncie Central: 1930, l00; 1931, 108; 1932, 115; 1933, 115. Howard Fisher, South Bend Central: 1949, 95; 1950, 112; 1951, 127; 1952, 133. Lance Ellis, Indianapolis Cathedral: 1986, 98; 1987, 112; 1988, 112; 1989, 119. Blake Maurer, Evansville Mater Dei: 2001, 130; 2002, 145; 2003, 171; 2004, 171. Alex Tsirtsis, Griffith: 2001, 119; 2002, 130; 2003, 135; 2004, 145. Angel Escobedo, Griffith: 2002, 112; 2003, 125; 2004, 130; 2005, 135. Jason Tsirtsis, Crown Point: 2009, 125; 2010, 130; 2011, 140; 2012, 145. 50% of our four timers have done it at 4 different weight classes. I wouldn't say that "not often" is the right way to describe it.
  12. So proud of him and the program in general! I've never met him, or likely anyone on the team, but Wabash is doing BIG things and making their alumni very proud. Wabash Always Fights! Josh Coons '07

  14. I heard you can only cut 1.5% of the mat per week so keep that in mind...
  15. I remember this discussion from last year... Can we also find the picture where Sean McMurrey (sp) was pinned at team regionals by the kid from Munster (name escapes me)
  16. I think one thing that gets overlooked or that people just don't remember is that Micic was significantly smaller than his competition his freshman year. If I remember correctly, he routinely weighed in under 100 lbs while most 103 lbers would obviously wrestle at a weight well above 103 (105 after January). It's not easy to give up 4-7 lbs especially when that is such a large percentage of your body weight. He was still one of the top wrestlers in the state that year... He is a special wrestler and deserves to be talked about with the very best in the state's history. I doubt we will see Red vs Nick Lee next year, I have a feeling Nick Lee will be at 138 or larger. Kid has a VERY big frame and it will be scary to see when he fills out...
  17. Hobart - Frankie Porras - SQ, 2nd, 1st, 1st Eric Galka - 1st, SQ, 1st, 2nd Brennan Cosgrove 3rd, 2nd, 2nd, 1st Alex Ramos 5th, 1st, 1st Trent Cox 4th, 1st, 3rd Just ordered most recent to oldest...
  18. First off, if you just get rid of the ultimate tie breaker and continue to recycle through the first 3 OTs, you eliminate the issue. It IS stalling to drop to an ankle at that point because it is not first score wins. The top man should be working toward a fall. I actually (surprisingly) disagree with the consensus here. While I wouldn't say that Vinny got screwed, my feeling as I was watching the match was that he was both pushing and controlling the action throughout and I thought a second stalling call would have been appropriate at least a few times prior to the ultimate tie breaker period. I have not studied or re-watched the match but my lasting impression is that Vinny wrestled the better match and should have gotten at least one stalling point. Can't say that he should have won the match because you never know what happens after that point is awarded...
  19. 106 - Breyden Bailey 113 - DJ Smith 120 - Chad Red 126 - Stevan Micic 132 - Deondre Wilson 138 - Drew Hughes 145 - Cody Lecount 152 - Brendon Kelley 160 - Vinny Corsaro 170 - Chase Osborn 182 - Ryan Jankowski 195 - Tyler Scott 220 - Gelen Robinson 285 - Wesley Bernard Team 1 - Cathedral - 77 points Team 2 - Penn - 55 points
  20. Hopefully you won't judge out community based just on this...
  21. Not to nitpick, but if 5 of the top 16 are at 1 semi-state, you also won't have the top 16 at state. It will always be an imperfect system. That said, I think you'd be hard pressed to find someone on this site who does not want wrestlebacks at the semi state level.
