  1. NO, they are not high school kids. They are middle school kids. If they are enrolled in high school because they were advanced academically, then yes. They would be a high schooler and allowed to compete at the high school level. If this has not happened, they are in middle school and that is where they should be competing. It will happen for them soon enough. Allow them to be kids. Quit trying to make them grow up so fast.
  2. Although bench does measure strength in some ways, I think it is overrated in others. Over all strength in all muscle groups along with technique are the most important things. If you combine those two with natural athletic ability you have a force to be reckoned with. If you have a kid who can bench a lot but is week on all other lifts, what has he accomplished other than lifting while on his back, not where he wants to be...Not saying that is where the kid you are talking about would end up, I am saying that there are much more important things than the bench press.
  3. I have known Nathan since he was a little kid. I have to say, he dodges no one. If he don`t beat them he keeps coming back until he does. I do wish we would have seen another 4 time state champ here in Indiana. You can watch the kid drill and see why he is one of the best.
  4. Good luck Nathan...I am sure there have been many sighs of relief from wrestlers at 106 this coming year. Keep us up to date on how you are doing this next season.
  5. He will win it all at whatever weight he goes this year. Brandon is a stud!!! Im just saying
  6. Our prayers are with you. You will kick this thing in the butt the way you have done to wrestlers on the matt.
  7. Duffy was a very good guy. He will be missed. Our hearts go out to Josh and hiis family. Our prayers are with you...
  8. Congrats to Perry on your awsome wrestling at Disney. Hard work and dedication certainly pays off. I agree, you guys are about the hardest working programs I have seen. You wrestling club is one to me modeled after. You guys represented our state and sport in a great way... Way to go... TBD
  9. Perry is dominate because they have dedicated coach`s that would be there whether they are paid to be or not. They are in the room six days a week. They have huge club numbers. When their kids come to wrestle... That is what they do. They don`t play...My hat is off to their program...They are truly a dominate force...As much as I hate to say it...They will win it all next season... TBD
  10. In the last ten years what has ever changed?
  11. T has been wrestling for 8 years now and has placed many times in all styles at ISWA State. ISWA puts on some great opportunities for our kids. T did not wrestle in any ISWA tournaments this year. I did however buy his wrestler card and renewed my coaches card. Two reasons, I want to support any young wrestlers advancement opportunities. The second is for the purpose of going to the RTC`s. They are great rooms for wrestlers to get matt time with serious wrestlers. You go to most clubs and some high school rooms and you have kids that want to socialize or play dodgeball. We can do that at home. When we go to a room it is for the purpose of advancing our wrestling skills. I stand by my earlier post though...When suggestions are made, not just by me but anyone. The powers that be don`t want to hear them. They are not going to bend. Their way or the highway.(HYWAY) LOL TBD
  12. Just my opinion but over the years there have been suggestions to the ISWA that were ignored by the powers that be. I think it is a good possibility that some of the people feel that if they are going to spend over a hundred dollars on something, they should have some say so in how things are done. In the past it has always been our way or the highway. I guess some are choosing the highway...Just my opinion.
  13. Very sorry to hear about someone so young passing. The thoughts and prayers of my family and myself go out to your school and this young mans family...
  14. After reading these posts, I first would want to congratulate Brock on his accomplishments. He is a great kid and a terrific wrestler. I too, do not know the circumstances of him wrestling in Minnesota nor is it any of my business as to how anyone decides to raise their kids. I just want to give my perspective on being away from home. I am a former US Marine and I enlisted at the age of 17 and did a 6 year hitch. Leaving home at a young age took so much away from family time I could never get back. A lot of these times are taken for granted by most of us as being unimportant. For the most part, unimportant unless you are the one who is absent. They leave the house soon enough. I am going to embrace the time I have with Travis as long as I can. If he becomes a successful college wrestler or just a good kid who loved to wrestle. I am going to be there as often as I can to watch him grow into the fine young man he is becoming. I work in the emergency medical service and am gone 24 hours at a time. I could not image not seeing him 24/7 during his developmental years. Good luck to Brock next season. I for one miss seeing him wrestle on Indiana wrestling mats. He is very impressive to watch.
  15. A family friends son passed away last evening unexpectedly. He was 24 and obviously several years ago was on a few of the team Indiana teams as a youth... RIP Tony Mascari
  16. Congratulations coach. You must be one proud papa...
  17. I think moving the 103 up is a mistake. Granted there are a lot of forfeits but moving this weight class up will take an opportunity of a smaller kid to be competitive. Some kids are just small and will never be able to move up. If this class goes to 107 you are going to have many 112 pound kids cutting down. Now the smaller kids are going to be at an even more disadvantage. My kid was a 3 pounder this past year. He did well. I am not possting this to lessen his potential competition. Cutting to 3 or 12 for him next year is not even an option at this point. It is about time he is starting to fill out...lol
  18. Nathan, you guys just want everyone don`t you? Second school in one day claiming Garret...lol I heard that he is intent on Perry...lol
  19. Just wanted to take a minute to congratulate the two older Keifers. It has been fun watching you guys wrestle the last several years. I also wanted to congratulate Nathan and Robert Boston. Nathan rocked at 103. Robert fell a little short but still made the show at 119. You two did a great job this year. Congratulations to all the other wrestlers at State this year. You guys rock. Seniors, it has been real. Underclassmen, good luck next year. I am sure we are not done hearing from you...
  20. Somehow my quote did not come from the post intended. It was in reference to who Boston has wrestled and to how Boomsma walked through his opponents.
  21. You might want to consider all his national wins and exposeure. Since for the most part that is all he has wrestled. Wrestled ISWA State last year and walked through everyone with ease.
  22. I personally feel that girls should not be competing in this sport with boys. I also agree that until they have a division of their own. They do not have a choice. As we all know, we have a few young ladies that wrestle here in Indiana. Young Miss Miracle beats most of the boys she wrestles. She is a technician. She does not win because the boys do not wrestle her like they would another boy. Any of them that know her, knows that if they slack off. They will soon be on their back. I have nothing but respect for her and any other girls decision to take on the boys. I guess it is because I am an old fart and would not allow a daughter to compete in a contact sport with boys. In saying that. My statement does not mean that they are wrong and I am right. Just that I would have made differant decisions than them. As long as the powers that be allow it. More power to them.
