  1. I couldn't make it this year, how did they do?
  2. Food! The Garrett AD is in charge and I told him we'll find a new SS to go to if the hospitality room isn't up to par. Ok Mr. Obvious! What FOOD does the hosp. room include?! I never made the connection. Maybe some doughnuts... 6 oughta work
  3. Crown Point - 2,426 students
  4. Why because you haven't started a youth program????? ??? And not sure about the Tsirtsis kid I have coached varsity football, high school wrestling, middle school wrestling and track since 1993. Never have coached fewer then 3 sport seasons in 16 years and have done 4 seasons for about 8 of those years. Teaching and coaching is 365 for many small school coaches. You don't need to pat me on the back but please don't say I'm not working hard. Exactly! Small school coaches have to work 2-3x as hard and typically don't have as many assistants either. You're forced to become the master of doing more with less.
  5. Berry is a good guy and good coach, I look for New Haven to keep improving.
  6. I think he means Jason, not Alex.
  7. thats exactly why once they get to the high school level, all the "boys" quit and only the young men remain Best quote I've seen, have it on my wall: "Wrestling: What men do during boy's basketball season."
  8. I was from the south end of the region drawing into that semistate and it was already an extremely long drive, East Chicago or Michigan City would make it even worse for people not already for the Region. Just my opinion though.
  9. For me it's a mix of Distrubed, The Exies, Dropkick Murpheys, and a touch of Jimmies Chicken Shack for class. Get's the adrenaline so you step on the mat ready to be explosive.
  10. It's accurate though, I wouldn't want to be anywhere else. Thankfully the fiancee works in Fort Wayne and I'm making her come with me. Too bad she'll be in her Bellmont sweatshirt...
  11. I don't know that I've bought food in Conseco yet. One of my favorite parts was going to Market Square with my dad and getting food in that big market they had. It's just not the same feel now. Man, do I come of as old and nostalgic or what?
  12. I never would have guessed Merrillville was the smallest attendance. I guess it seems like more when you're shoulder to shoulder.
  13. HAHAHAHA! Y2 is going down! There's always the possibility of an "error" while entering the correct picks, which may or may not end up with Y2 winning...
  14. Biggest attendance - Merrillville Biggest arena would have to be either New Castle or the Colliseum in Fort Wayne, right? New Castle is one of the biggest gyms in the nation, last I knew anyway.
  15. There will be 56 that have a shot at a state title. Well said sir, well said. Anybody who wrestles smart and hard for at least 6:00 minutes every match has a shot. Anyone who goes in underestimating there opponent is at risk.
  16. That is an excellent point, a lot of times a successful program needs a whole team of guys. The assistants and their attitudes and knowledge of the sport are just as important. If a head coach tells the kids one thing, but the assistants show a bad attitude, a "winning is all that matters" attitude, it could be a bad thing. I would hope that contradiction would never happen though. I agree on coach Harmon..There is a lot more than just the head guy though. You got to look at the assisants. They are the ones who dont get paid much, if at all, and they are teaching those kids on the mat and in life every day. They do it because they want to. They give up their family time to spend it with a bunch of sweaty kids. With Coach harmon is Brandon Taylor and Mike Brown. They are amazing with the kids!!!!!
  17. I think it's most important to teach them the fundamentals, make them learn from each match, and give them the basics. If they enjoy the sport and learn something every time they step on the mat they will continue to learn and love the sport. Sportsmanship is crucial too, I always wonder when I see unsportsmanlike conduct in high school if that was a concern for the coaches in middle school and below.
  18. Thanks Y2, it's a lot of fun. You're doing an excellent job with the site overall.
  19. Boot

    UPSETS!

Another good one was 171: 4th seed Biberstine beating #1 seed Wilson by fall, then beating #2 seed Melcher 8-7 and taking the #2 seed into semi state.
  20. That's an impressive performance, congratulations to Coach Vlink and all the Bulldogs. How many at each seed?
  21. I agree that Fiechter at 130, but also Meyer at HWT and Fodrea at 215. Merrillville will see a lot of great 4th seeds as well, but I don't have that bracket in front of me right now.
  22. Obviously checking over a post is not my strong point... ;D Sorry, couldn't resist.
  23. I got bored last night and compiled stats for the Jay County Regional. It was an impressive day of wrestling all around and I wish good luck to all these men on the road to state. I think this shows that Jay County is the tougher of the 2 sectionals, and there is a lot of talent in here. 15 of the 56 advancers are ranked. Advancing to SemiState 10 - Yorktown 9 - Bellmont 7 - South Adams 4 - Bluffton, Adams Central 3 - Southern Wells, Winchester, Muncie South 2 - Jay County, Muncie Central, Delta, Blackford, Norwell, Randolph Southern 1- Wapahani Team Pins 13 - Yorktown 10 - Bellmont 6 - South Adams 4 - Winchester 3 - Bluffton 2 - Adams Central, Southern Wells, Muncie South, Jay County, Muncie Central, Blackford, Randolph Southern 1 - Norwell, Wapahani Advancing by Sectional 34 - Jay County 22 - Delta Placers by Sectional: 1st - 7 JC, 7 D 2nd - 9 JC, 5 D 3rd - 9 JC, 5 D 4th - 9 JC, 5 D Team Points 171 - Yorktown 148 - Bellmont 104 - South Adams 63 - Bluffton 56 - Adams Central 40 - Southern Wells 39 - Winchester 38 - Muncie South 37 - Jay County 34 - Muncie Central 28 - Delta 24 - Blackford 23 - Randolph Southern 17 - Norwell 15 - Wapahani 0 - Daleville, Monroe Central, Union City, Wes-Del
