It's a bit early, but the SIAC, Let's get it started...

What's it take to impress you? MD just won the 3A duals with a close win over Perry. Other than that they haven't really been challenged at all this year. No, they aren't as good as those team's from the early 00's, but they are good enough to bring home a state championship this year. Luigs, Egli, Johnson, Lee, Lee, and Jourdan should all place very high at Banker's Life. Seems like they always get a couple of their lesser known kids to qualify and maybe place as well. Somebody like Bassemier and Forzley could do that this year. -
I would definitely favor Joe Lee against Harris. They do have one common opponent...Nick Lee. Nick Lee pinned Harris in :34 in the semi state finals last year. I tend to stay away from these types of comparisons, but thought I'd throw it out there.

I seem to remember having wrestling camp in the "new" wrestling room in the summer of '86. The only reason I remember it was because they paraded us around to look at the state championship trophy. Not sure if the room was in use during the 85-86 season.

I know Rhodes was full of antics. Just saying that without question Cathedral had the toughest practices in the state is probably not entirely accurate.

My son is only 9, so I'll worry about it more in a few years. Just thought the name was kind of cheesy is all. "IndianaMat.com Wrestler of the Year" sounds a little more respectable than Mr. Gorilla. But whatever. It's your award, name it whatever you want.

It was so rare 20+ years ago to see a fresh or soph state champ. I think the big reason is all the year round wrestling schools/academies. There are so many more opportunities, more national tournaments, etc. that the fresh/sophs are exposed to better competition at an earlier age. That plus kids are specializing at a much earlier age now.

That is a stupid reason. Bunch of idiots at the IHSAA. You win your friday night match, it should count. Period.

Also, every match at the NCAA's counts for the team score. That's not the case with our state finals. Anybody have any idea why Friday nights matches are not counted in the team score? That is still the case, correct?

I'm pretty sure MD has had at least one qualifier every year since at least 1980. Back into the 70's I'm not sure about.

It wasn't Elderkin for sure. Chip graduated in 86 when Ellis was a Frosh. In 89 he wrestled David Nosko from MD in the semi's. Pretty sure Dave was the only one that Ellis didn't pin at state in 89.

Kid is a good wrestler, but he is hardly a lock to win one title, let alone 2. There are a number of good wrestlers that will have something to say about 113 this year. And next year, depending on where everybody falls weight wise, he could see a number of very talented wrestlers the entire year. Let him at least qualify for state before crowning him. -

Scenario 2 is absurd. So if Lee were to beat the #1 kid in the country, both would drop completely out of the rankings? Makes no sense at all. One loss would not make Micic fall that far. And how would Lee be penalized for beating #1? If anything, this is just a guess, both would be right around #10 if that were to happen.

I don't see the need to antagonize the IHSWCA. The title alone is off-putting. I thought one of the reasons this site was developed was to help promote wrestling in Indiana. While Y2 makes valid points and offers good suggestions, the childish pissing contest he has with the IHSWCA is disturbing. -
His phone literally blew up? I hope the schools that caused the explosion help the family get a new phone. ;D
