  1. And his reward is Tommy Cash Friday Night...DUHO!
  2. Read what you want into the comments. Believe what you want. I just don't see Mater Dei as a team that is as dominant as they have been in Years past.
  3. It all depends on if you mean a "Team State Championship" or the established Coaches Trophy. I don't disagree that MD had a good tram, and I also agree completely that they are not the teams from years gone by. But let's be real here for a minute...was the Team Championship comprised of the very best teams in the state? In it's current format, it is almost an Invite, not a progression of wins that get you in. PM is an extremely solid program, no doubt at all. An victory over them is an true accomplishment. But are they as strong as they have been in years past? I am betting no. As for a to 30 National ranking...Wonderful! It brings attention to the state as a whole to have teams "Nationally Ranked". BUT rankings of ANY type are usually heavily influenced by the history of a program and fail to account for the "What Have You Done For Me Lately" rule. Think about it...Why do they even bother to have "Preseason Rankings"? No one even knows if any of the kids are coming out, much less what weights they will be at. For the record, I have no ties to any of the SIAC teams. I didn't go to any of the schools neither did any of my kids or family. Just a wrestling fan of many years.
  4. This is sort of like those "Imaginary State Football Championships" Reitz Fans always talks about. If you have to make it up it actually doesn't count. I am a purest when it comes to the State Championship in wrestling. The way Indiana did it was flawed because it started with and individual tourneys results (sectional winners advanced) and folded it into a Team tourney from there. I enjoy the concept of having your strongest individuals decide the title because it is actually a 4 week process. You send your kids into the sectional, and it's survival of the fittest from that point on. Having said that, it is a great thing to have the current Team Tourney to give the kids better competition and more mat time.
  5. I think Castle's team is stronger than most think. They are very impressive. I hope they have everyone where they need them for the end of the year. I have to say, I am not really impressed for MD from top to bottom. Obviously 132 and 138 are super tough for them, but the other weights are not as bullet proof as one might think. They have the strongest line up over all, but they are not as strong as years past over all. That said, MD is still the team to beat. I am still wondering if Tyler Ferguson has just packed up and left or what. He would be my pick at 126 if that is where he was at. I could even see him winning at 120 if that is where he pop up. I see Memorial vs Castle s a good dual. I love the support for the troops shown by these two teams year by the way! Class acts on both their parts. Central versus Castle has what could be a few really good matches, but I am not sure the Bears bring enough to the table to win out. I see MD winning the title as usual. Wrestle backs are the key for them as I do see them crowning 14 champions. Just my 2 cents of course.
  6. Whose going to show up? Whose going to shock us? I see it as MD, Castle, then Central and Memorial, North and Reitz after that. Any predictions?
  7. How Tourney Scoring Works... Win - You Score...Lose...You Don't...
  8. Sorry to be out of the loop...Been out of state for work... But, Has Ferguson seen the mat yet this year? Seems a shame if he isn't out there.
  9. So it's basically Christmas and a returning place winner is no where to be found
  10. Its pretty safe to say Kentucky wrestling is down this year. Maybe a lack of Irvings
  11. Question...and not wanting to stir things up, but Tyler Ferguson....Is he wrestling at all?
  12. And what exactly about the sport of wresting ISN'T the exception to the rule? the State Championship lists for years gone by shows many examples of past Team champions from schools that do not have that magical 2,000 student enrollment behind them. Delta is another example... Statics are usually really fun conversation points, but seldomly show the true picture...No team will ever be successful without a solid Wrestling culture established.
  13. It sure seems like you all are making a great case for NOT having a State Sanctioned Class Wrestling System.... If you look at the history of Wrestling in the sates, espectially under the Individual Tourney System of determining our team champions, you will see teams like Delta, and oviously Mater Dei all over the champions list... If Mater Dei were forced into their Class, they would NOT be a 3A school... So here is the rub, Wrestling is an individual sport at it's core. I understand the argument of "fewer students equals less opportunities" but lets be super honest here, your school could have 5,000 kids and 4,999 of them could be completely disinterested in the sport. Yet schools such as Yorktown, Mater Dei, and many of those smaller have great success year in and year out agains schools with enrollments 4 time larger than their own. We also continue to see teams from schools with enrollments over 2,000 that field teams with multiple FF's week in and week out, It seems to me that it's moreof a matter of the culture around a wrestling program, building that tradition and the respect for our sport in your local schools, that is actually the key. Don't believe me, just look at programs like Yorktown, Bellmont, Mater Dei, et al.
