  1. Thank you for sharing, that sounds amazing. We have talked about doing that, but have always hesitated due to worries about being "up" on the stage. Did that seem to be an issue at all? Always felt like it would give a HS meet a true "big fight" kind of feel.

Always makes my heart happy to hear that schools get behind wrestling in a big way, especially when it's not attached to someone completing some grand achievement. Same goes for Cross Country, Track, Swimming, Golf, Soccer, etc.

  2. Jeremiah Harvey:

Sixth grade: First year wrestler, broke leg two weeks into season

    Seventh grade: No wrestling

    Eighth grade: No wrestling

    Frosh: No wrestling

Soph: No wrestling, stepped on scale in late January, got intrigued again by Wrestling

Junior: Regional qualifier wrestler who was pinned first round

Senior: Conference runner-up, sectional third place, Regional champ, Semi-State champ, State champ

Definitely a candidate for most exciting run ever. All but one post-season win was either quick pin (7) or over-time (5). The one that wasn't avenged his only losses (four times to same guy) of the season. Semi-final state match was UTB. He won from top.

  3. For the record, I am in favor of a classed individual tournament, and I am in favor of wrestle-backs.

Couldn’t nearly all of the same arguments against classing the individual be made against wrestle backs?

Bad draw? Should have gotten into more rooms, then YOU’d be the bad draw.

Live in an area with tons of good schools and have to face kids from relatively easier sectionals, regionals, semi-states? Should have worked harder so you would just win your preliminary level anyway.

  4. This is also posted in the youth forum, but only has 96 views. In case anyone doesn't look over there, but would still like the information:

Triton and Culver Community started a 4th/5th grade wrestling league last year, and we are looking to expand. We are hoping to add some schools that are willing to host events. There was no post-season tournament last year, but Triton has expressed that they may be willing to host one if we can get enough teams on board, thus taking some of the load off of our two schools to host all events.

    - Wrestlers must have a physical on file with your school, same as MS/HS wrestlers

    - Meets are every Wednesday starting 1/25/2023 for six weeks; start time is 6:30 PM eastern time

    - Half of the meets are at Culver Community, half a Triton (we are very eager to hand some of these events off to other host schools)

    - All meets are done in a scramble format - block weight classes and we try to get everyone 2-3 matches per night

    - Geography will be considered when deciding whether or not to add a team to our league

There are more details, but I will save those for who request them. If you would like more information or are interested in joining, contact

  5. I like it because it gives our MS wrestlers a chance to see where they are without the full state commitment. They'll know if they place 5th in a bracket of 20, they are probably good to go ahead and give it a shot at state. If they place 7th in a bracket of 10, then they'll know (even though they qualified) it's probably not worth the time and money to head to state. If people choose to go simply because they auto-qualify, more power to them, but they'll know what they're getting into.

  6. Any idea on the cost of the qualifiers? Or is it one registration fee that covers both tournaments? Spectator fee same as finals or is it cheaper for qualifiers?

    Hoping to put together our 4th/5th team and our MS team information in the next few weeks, and I would like to be able to offer this as an opportunity. It will be new for our program, so parents will have lots of questions:}

  8. This was posted in the Youth Wrestling forum as well, but when I went to "bump" it, I noticed it was still the top thread. It has no replies, and only 133 views, so I am posting here. Does anyone know if/how MS qualifiers are going to work this season? They are posted on track, but there is nothing on the IHSWCA nor the ISWA page about them.

  9. Hate to be a negative Nancy, but do you think it's possible that the only people who reply to a question like this are ones who have good numbers? Like I said, we are getting more schedule requests by far than other years, which may be an indication of struggling programs dropping out of events. Until we stop winning dual meets with our tiny roster, I will not feel comfortable with the state of wrestling participation in Indiana. At least northern Indiana.
