  1. "Hit my kid for stalling; he's not doing anything, maybe you can make him wrestle I sure as hell can't!"
  2. The ISWA does use the following at the state finals. This information is listed on the State Finals pages on the website, ISWA.com - Schedules - State Finals event listing and in the publication that was mailed out to all members. Separation Criteria ISWA Folkstyle State Champions, ISWA Freestyle State Champions and ISWA Greco State Champions, within the past 2 years, will be separated. Please Note: You must indicate your championship, in the space provided, when you pre-register at trackwrestling.com (IHSWCA Middle School State is not an ISWA State Finals event)
  3. Great to hear! Nick is such a super kid, nice to hear that he is having some success and getting to continue his wrestling career. I think it is awesome how you are contributing to that success. Best wishes on continued success for you both!
  4. Before I begin this rant let me qualify myself in saying that I have a great deal of respect for each and every coach at any level across the state. I know the passion you all have for our sport and the impact that you make on young lives as a result of that passion! I only ask that any feedback be well thought out and respectful with only serious intent. With all due respect, enough of the B------t!!! Now, with no further ado? Why is there such a rush to declare a format or event ?right now? for something that will not go into effect until next season? Coaches get your act together! I?m not just talking about those in ?the association?; I mean all of you, although, I believe each and every one of you should belong to and be active members of ?the association?. Many of you are so quick and willing to voice individual ?opinions? when what is needed is a collective ?voice?. You make it easy for the IHSAA to ride roughshod over you. Ever heard the saying ?divide and conquer?? Any option you come up with will be conquered so long as you stay divided! GET IT TOGETHER for the betterment of the sport we all love so much. Collectively, you all are the stewards of Indiana Wrestling! Please take that responsibility seriously and do your part as individuals to strengthen the profession of coaching and thereby the sport of wrestling in Indiana!!! If you are not part of the solution you are ?de facto? part of the problem! This is my attempt/input into the solution. I?m not sorry if I offended anyone, in that, they probably deserved/needed to be offended by their own conscience if not someone else? ?for your consideration! Timeline Sometime before Sectionals - Develop one or more options for consideration Sectional Seeding Meeting - Present selected option(s) for a preliminary vote, with, any recommendations for adjustment being welcomed by the IHSWCA via email by the end of that following week. Hall of Fame Banquet - Distribute finalized ?preferred? option at banquet for members' consideration and make public via IndianaMat.com that following week. IHSWCA Spring Clinic ? Present finalized ?preferred? option to membership for referendum. Once agreed upon ? Present to IHSAA and request permission to recognize and utilize ?Team (Dual) State Championship? nomenclature. Fall Clinic ? Announce Date(s) & Location(s) Format Class Championship Team Tournament of qualified teams (8 or 16 teams per class), may require separate dates and/or locations for each class. IHSWCA poll & IndianaMat.com team rankings could be combined to establish seeding. Event would take place one or two weeks prior to Sectional weekend (Conference tournaments?) would require cooperation statewide (Coordinate Conference Tournaments on same day/weekend or weekday for small conferences). Qualification Establish/identify qualifying events (?Super?-Duals) held throughout the season. Teams wishing to be considered for participation must compete in a qualifier. (Overall champion qualifies for their class championship and highest placing team per other class(es) receives consideration for their class championship based on performance) IHSWCA poll & IndianaMat.com team rankings could be combined to establish ?wildcard? teams to round out # of teams participating to achieve balanced brackets. Other considerations Concessions ? Host site takes concession revenues. Gate ? Gate receipts are divided among guest schools utilizing a formula derived from distance traveled and verifiable event related expenses. Sponsorship ? If the IHSAA comes on board, the IHSAA corporate sponsor would be recognized. Otherwise, if permissible, develop a corporate partnership that could produce revenues to be utilized in mitigating schools? travel and other event related expenses. Remember, I asked that any feedback be well thought out and respectful with only serious intent and undertones.
  5. He does, but, he also has caller ID...
  6. Maybe it was in the brownies. Should've stuck with the "Blueberry Muffin Man"! From Dave's Facebook... Dave Herman Out of UFC 136; Says Positive Marijuana Test to Blame, but Denies Use By Matt Erickson MMA writer A heavyweight tussle at UFC 136 next week has been scrapped from the main card, and a featherweight rematch has been bumped up to take its place. The UFC announced Wednesday that a bout between Dave "Pee Wee" Herman and Mike Russow is off because Herman had to withdraw, and Leonard Garcia vs. Nam Phan has moved up from the preliminary card to the pay-per-view slot. But later Wednesday, Herman told Clinch Gear Radio that it was a failed preliminary drug test that knocked him out of the bout, saying he tested positive for marijuana ? but denying any use of the banned substance. Additionally, a source close to Russow's camp told MMA Fighting that marijuana was indeed the culprit. "I'm still trying to figure it out myself," Herman told hosts Jeff Dotseth and Stephen Quadros. "Basically, they said I failed my drug test. I went in to get my drug test. A week later, they called and said they lost my urine specimen and I had to come back in and redo it. And I came back in and they said I failed it. It's impossible." Herman (21-2, 1-0 UFC) denied any use of marijuana: "I don't even smoke. I haven't even had a beer in two months." Herman told the show the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, which regulates MMA in the state, initially said he failed a first test, then failed a second for steroids. He also said the commission asked him to take a second test because it lost his first sample. Herman won his UFC debut in June with a comeback win over Jon Olav Einemo that won Fight of the Night honors. The Indiana native has been training with Team Quest. Herman started his MMA career 15-0 with 15 stoppages ? 14 in the first round, including a 3-0 stint in EliteXC. Russow (14-1, 1 NC, 3-0 UFC) beat Jon Madsen in March after a long injury layoff. A source close to Russow's camp told MMA Fighting the heavyweight does not yet have another fight booked. Garcia and Phan's rematch moves from the prelims up to the pay-per-view. The two fought at the TUF 12 Finale last December with Garcia winning a controversial split decision and Fight of the Night honors. Garcia was unsuccessful in March in another rematch from a controversial split decision win when he was submitted by Chan Sung Jung. Phan is coming off a unanimous decision loss to Mike Brown at UFC 133 in August. UFC 136 takes place Oct. 8 at the Toyota Center in Houston. It will be the promotion's first trip to Houston since UFC 69. The show, which will be preceded by a UFC Fan Expo on Oct. 7-8, features a pair of title fights ? the rematch between lightweight champion Frankie Edgar and Gray Maynard, plus a featherweight title bout between champ Jose Aldo and Kenny Florian.
  7. Correct, they are not ran by the ISWA. Check out the ISWA website and you will find the schedule of last year's Elementary Duals that were sanctioned and advertised by the ISWA. All that is intended by the bid/scheduling meeting is to plan events with minimal conflict in scheduling against other local events, which I believe is your intent. The weekend of the Elementary Dual Team State has been moved forward one week this coming season, thus, placing it on January 8th and Columbus East may not have been aware of that, as, I'm sure they plan to compete in it once again this year. Best wishes in developing your elementary program!
  8. Local/Club events will be bid for scheduling next Sunday September 11th during the Annual Meeting at Lawrence North High School.
  9. January 8th - ISWA Elementary Dual Team State Championships @ Franklin
  10. Your leadership is exemplary and your friendship is invaluable. What a tremendous honor for a tremendously honorable man. Congratulations!!!
  11. It looks, suspiciously, a lot like a book that I referenced as part of a research paper that I wrote in high school back in ?85. Only then it was authored by Billy Dean who at that time was serving as the ?Historian? for the IHSWCA. It makes me wonder if this book is an updated version of that text; which, I believe was dated circa 1982. If so, you will find it very interesting, as it would detail the complete history of high school wrestling in Indiana from its inception.
  12. What was done at ISWA State was the use of true matside pairings plus the use of a central pairings center where reults were verified and entered into Trackwrestling and the awards were presented in a formal awards ceremony complete with the podium presentations which have become very popular. In addition, at Warren Central the 4 mats in the main gym were scored electronically on Trackwrestling, wereby; at the conclusion of those matches, pairings were generated automatically by that system.
  13. I think it is vertical pairing that you like. In vertical pairting placement is determined by classification points making it possible to lose yet still place first. Bracketed pairing is what is used for folkstyle and being more recognizable to most is veiwed as being much more simple to pair/understand than the vertical system. However, the vertical system is not that difficult to learn.
  14. Also, there sometimes is a lag in data on Trackwrestling. I've seen it take upto a couple of hours for a registration to process and have the wrestler listed. This may be due to payment varification in some cases...
  15. Just as with any business or home there are many more expenses than rent. Remember we are a year-round non-profit organization. If you want to see the truth you can check out the annual fiscal report. Just ask you club rep if you can see the annual report. It was provided to them at the annual meeting in September, if they attended. By the way, that truth is stated in red numbers! Also, it is a USA Wrestling card not an ISWA card and the ISWA does not benefit greatly from those proceeds.
  16. However, the Girls portion will start in the evening (again from ISWA.com)... GIRL?S FOLKSTYLE STATE FINALS MARCH 12, 2011 Ben Davis High School Folkstyle Wrestling Schedule: NOTE TIME CHANGE(All Age Divisions) Please be at Ben Davis for a Women's Meeting by 6:00 pm on Saturday. Wrestling will start at approximately 7:00 pm
  17. #1 - I'm not familiar enough with the school's layout to answer this one. #2 - We will be using 16 mats, 10 in the Fieldhouse and 6 in the Gymnasium #3 - This information below is directly from the ISWA website and should be available in the annual publication as well. Hope this helps and best of luck to all competitors this weekend. 19. Also, very interesting that Joel Northup is a home-schooled sophomore wrestling for Linn-Mar High School. Another recently developing hot topic in Indiana.
  20. In RG's defense and being that I am the one that keeps citing the rules, his interpretation would have been correct prior the rule change that occurred just a few years ago. The rule change, I believe, occurred after he graduated or near the end of his high school career. Therefore, I wouldn't be to critical of him and this is an example of how easily misinterpretations can occurr and the importance of staying updated with rules. Minor and sometimes major changes take place from year to year it is easy to get left behind.
  21. What was done is both noble and within the rules, see... Rule 6-4-4 Situation A "2010-2011 NFHS Wrestling Case/Manual" Page 34 DEFAULT A MATCH *6-4-4 Situation A: During a tournament, Wrestler A is in the neutral position and trailing 14-1. During a takedown attempt, Wrestler B returns A to the mat and is called for an illegal slam. Prior to the expiration of recovery time, Wrestler A realizes he/she will not be able to continue after his two minutes of recovery time and wishes to default the match to Wrestler B and so indicates to the referee. Ruling: Wrestler B is declared the winner by default as Wrestler A has the prerogative to default a match to the opponent at any time prior to the conclusion of wrestling by informing the referee. (10-2-3, 4, 5) Minus the score, this is precisely what happened in this situation!
  22. Rule 8-2-2 If a contestant is injured as a result of an illegal hold/maneuver, unnecessary roughness or unsportsmanlike conduct (during the match) to the extent the contestant is unable to continue following a maximum of two minutes recovery time, shall be awarded the match by default. In case of an intentional attempt to injure an opponent, the offender shall be disqualified. Recovery time for injury because of an illegal hold/maneuver is not deducted from the injured wrestler's injury-time allowance and coaching is allowed. A contestant cannot take injury time immediately following recovery time. Rule 6-4-4 Any coach of the contestant or the contestant has the prerogative to default a match to the opponent at any time prior to the conclusion of wrestling by informing the referee.
  23. 160 #6 Anderson over #2 Willis 9-8 #9 Judkins over #19 McGinley 13-2
  24. 145 #8 James over #3 Scurria 13-10 Decker by fall over Kern
