  1. Following the tradition !!! Briar Runyan is the next in a line of Martinsville wrestlers that have moved from wrestling to serving their country. Briar Runyan (2006-2009). Currently undefeated and ranked first at 160 lbs. Runner-up at 152 as a junior State Qualifier at 152 as a sophomore Has just accepted an appointment to the West Point Military Academy. He follows: Eli Myers (1998-2001). Eli was a two time State qualifier (103-112) with a varsity record of 100-17. He holds the school record of 38 consecutive wins. Eli was appointed to West Point in 2001. Richard Neal (1986-1989). Richard was the 145 lb IHSAA State Champion in ?89. He served in the Marine Corp. from 90 to 93. All-Marine Corp. 92-93. All-American at the US Open in ?91. All-American at the University Nationals in ?92. ?AND NOW YOU KNOW THE REST OF THE STORY? So when you are going south on Ind. 37 make sure you stop at Ind. 37 and Ind. 252 and salute. SEMPER FI
  2. "maybe the number one seeds should have just worked harder....and warmed up..they must not have wanted to be a TRUE state champion only TRUE Sectional, regional and semi state champions can advance so we have just the state Semifinals to watch" Based on your logic then we revert back to "The Old School" of wrestling. This makes for smaller regionals, semi-states, and states since only the "TRUE" champions should advance. And OH YES thanks. 3. I will answer for midget. He/she will probably get their butt dusted, but it keeps the number one from a regional from setting for two hours waiting for a match. And if they can pull off the upset, more power to them. But I have witnessed too many regional champs get beaten in the round to go because they were not warmed up. 4. OK, now lets take all of the figures posted on this thread and sort them out. How many of the class 1 through 10 state champions, Junior National place winners, etc., have gone on to college, based on their placing at any of these tournaments? And when you have recapped all of the data, so what? Are you looking to get these wrestlers into a college based on their HS accomplishments or build your resume as a coach? 5. Here goes all of my Cool Points. Nothing like being 0-5, 0-6, or 0-7 and getting a State Championship medal!!!! TheAncientElder (TAE) The Imperial Potentate and Grand Poobah of Classless wrestling in Indiana. I wear my Fez with pride.
  6. Cheap Shots This is a new board for Indiana wrestling and I am sorry to say that some of the same people that were complaining on the other board are on here and doing the same. HISTORY: IHSWCA. ?The Indiana High School Wrestling Coaches Association was established in 1962 to give the coaches an organized voice in wrestling.? ?Echoes Of The Elder ? 2002? You have every opportunity to join and voice your opinion as an organized group to the IHSAA. IHSAA. The IHSAA has governed wrestling in Indiana since 1922. Again you can attend the meetings and voice your opinions. In 2002 the IHSAC (Indiana High School Athletic Congress) was formed as an alternative to the IHSAA. It died promptly for lack of support. REFEREES ASSOCIATION. The association, under the control of the IHSAA, supervises the qualification of all tournament officials (sectionals through the state). And just for the record it is tough as nails to get a state tournament assignment (and then there is a two year limit). So quit your DAMN bitchin? and get involved. 7. Is it just me or do we have a reading problem? The question was: name a wrestler that has beaten a state champ and a runner-up (I assume in the same year) and not placed in the top five? Most of the answers so far have been: I beat him this year and I beat him three years ago. Did your wrestler beat the existing champion and the runner-up this year? Am I just a Grumpy Old Fart or do I have a point to make? TheAncientElder (TAE) The Imperial Potentate and Grand Poobah of Classless wrestling in Indiana. 8. The object of wrestling, since day one, has been to pin your opponent. Anything less should be considered LESS. TheAncientElder (TAE) The Imperial Potentate and Grand Poobah of Classless wrestling in Indiana. I wear my Fez with pride.

  15. The Madman of Mooresville wrestling? returned to the tournament that he created in 1971. Randy Qualitza visited the Mooresville Holiday Classic wrestling tourney for the opening round of the tourney on Tuesday. The tournament started in 1971 as an eight-team tourney as has continued to evolve. It has gone to sixteen teams (probably as big as it should get for the facility) and has moved to four other venues before returning home. It tried a team tournament format in ?95 but was not what the wrestling community wanted and returned to the individual format in ?96. The original champions were: 1971-72 098 Ron Bean Mooresville 1971-72 105 Cedrick Reicken Mt. Vernon 1971-72 112 Jon Howson Whiteland 1971-72 119 Gene Loomis Mooresville 1971-72 126 Randy Fox Lebanon 1971-72 132 Mark McGuire Mooresville 1971-72 138 Bill Galloway Whiteland 1971-72 145 Ed Gipson Danville 1971-72 155 Kerry Wilson Brownsburg 1971-72 167 Bill Atwood Mooresville 1971-72 185 Warren Grubb Mooresville 1971-72 Hwt Tim Beck Center Grove TheAncientElder (TAE) The Imperial Potentate and Grand Poobah of Classless wrestling in Indiana. 19. Wrestle backs: AGAINST MY BETTER JUDGMENT! I will present this argument for (or against) wrestle backs. In 1939 the tournament tried a wrestle back format for a ?true second?. The runner-up in the tournament was thrown into a pool of wrestlers that had lost in previous rounds to the eventual champ. (I like that concept: if you had not lost to the champ you really had no valid argument as to where you placed) Laban Foster, brother of Jack Foster (3x state champ from Hammond Clark), lost in first round (for the sake of arguments it looks like a pig-tail round) to eventual state champ Joe Sparks of Bloomington. He won three matches in the wrestle backs to be the declared the state runner-up for that weight class. Three rounds of wrestle backs to determine a ?true? second place. You make the call. AND NOW YOU KNOW THE REST OF THE STORY! TheAncientElder (TAE) The Imperial Potentate and Grand Poobah of Classless wrestling in Indiana. I wear my Fez with pride. www.theancientelder.net

  24. regionrat1, dogboy is currently a spectator/parent at Center Grove HS. I will continue to be a spectator, but I have to tell you I am looking for the elevators. These bleachers are killing my knees. Sam just started his first year of wrestling. I will be about 90 when this kid is a senior. I think I will demand my position as an assistant coach if he makes it to Conseco. TheAncientElder (TAE) The Imperial Potentate and Grand Poobah of Classless wrestling in Indiana. He coached IHSAA sectional championship teams at four different schools and was an assistant coach at still another.
