  1. I'll never forget watching Gunderman(WC?) get spladled by the Whiteland wrestler, who's name I can't remember. It was a shocking upset.
  2. Williams vs. Mora was the best Friday night match I can remember. That same yeah we saw another great match from the same situation. O'Brien vs. the Portage 215 was also the championship match on Friday night that year.
  3. I see what you both are saying here. I guess my point is that if the goal is to put the the best 2 guys on the opposite side of the bracket, then I see nothing wrong with seeding the 3rd best kid 4th. That would be the means of increasing the likelihood to get the 2 best guys to the finals. In this case, I can't imagine that Roncolli was trying to get Kiefer seeded over Wright, so I wouldn't think he would have been on the board yet until Wright was seeded. I'm sure someone would have grabbed the 3rd seed.
  4. I must be missing something here. The loser at Regionals, whether Kiefer or Wright, will have to beat another Regional's champ in the ticket round at Semi-state to get to State. You are just as likely to make it through Semi-State as a 3rd place finisher from Regionals as you are as a 2nd place finisher. I've seen plenty of cases where the 3rd place finisher at Regionals has received a better draw than the second place one. As a side note, If Roncolli's coaches were so against this set-up, why didn't they just refuse the 3rd seed and take the 4 instead?
  5. I know that FW is down, compared to Merrillville and New Castle, but there are kids in a few classes that have realistic chances of winning. They have a realistic chance at 119(Lovejoy). I know that they wrestle a crappy schedule, but he's a 2X Placer. Him winning 119 is not unrealistic.
  6. No surprise that he lost quite a few matches at 125, if he started the year out at 112. That's a huge in-season jump!
  7. I recall O'Brien's(SR) win in the semis over Kasten(JR) being a close match. I am thinking it was 5-2, or 5-3. His match under the lights against Dommer, on the other hand, was not close.
  8. 103: Phillips 112: Campbell 119: Lovejoy 125: Wright 130: Tsirtsis 135: Norton 140: Porras 145: Roach 152: Bennett 160: Willis 171: Duckworth 189: Atwood 215: Cleveland 275: Travis
  9. The fact that he was losing to people as a school boy isn't really important. The fact that he was a state runner up as a Freshman speaks volumes for his current ability. I would imagine that he has improved quite a bit from last year as well, since most wrestlers tend to make their biggest improvement gains from their Freshman to their Sophmore year.
  10. Radnovich was very impressive as a senior, but he didn't pin his way through state. He won a 1 or 2 point match in his SS final, although, he did pin everyone at State that year.
  11. My argument isn't that Reece was anywhere near as good as a freshman 112, but that he would have been a state placer at 103, with an outside shot at a title. There is a huge difference between wrestling 103 and wrestling 112.
  12. If I am remembering correctly, Ruggerri wrestled at Senior Nationals and went 2 and out.
  13. I would score it 32-18 Mishawaka, and that's giving Merrillville the benefit of the doubt in a couple matches that I think Mishawaka is capable of winning. Nobody will get within a dozen points of Mishawaka in the state.
  14. A lot of people are forgetting how good Hartman was. Didn't he win under the lights by TF against Jose Escobedo? Another thing to consider was that he was good enough to bump Reece Humphrey to 112 that season.
  15. Hope he feels good at this weight. Not that he'd be guaranteed to win state at this weight, but there's no one there that I wouldn't favor him against. Good luck to him!
  16. That was Snider, until Ester got canned!
  17. You can be a proud supporter of a team, without wearing rose-colored glasses. Well, at least most of us can.
  18. The current system isn't perfect, but it's an improvement over the previous system. Previously, you couldn't wrestle back to 5th if you lost to a guy who went on to lose in the semis.
  19. Doesn't Illinois also have something in their tournament where once you beat someone, you advance without having to defeat them again? At least that's how their wrestlebacks appear to work.
  20. If we are going off only HS, then I would say that as Freshmen and Sophmores, Mauer had a clear edge. When comparing their Junior or Senior years, there isn't a clear edge between them.
  21. This was my reason behind picking Schontube. He sure was dominant as a Senior. To Mauer's credit, he was great at winning close matches, and this match up would mostly likely have been close. Although, I don't think anyone gave Schontube a close match his Senior year, so that's hard to factor in.
  22. It looks like Mishawaka is running away with this.
