  1. Congratulations Frankie. What a great career. I think many will agree that the Mental Attitude Award was very fitting for this young man. Not taking anything away from anyone else, but Frankie's overall attitude throughout his career, win or lose, has been handled with a great amount of class. I have the pleasure of being around this young man not only around wrestling, but off the mat as well. The attitude he has definitely carries over into life outside of wrestling. Frankie it has been fun watching and supporting you thoughout your high school years, and I am looking forward to keeping up thoroughout the next phase of your career at the collegiate level for Purdue University. P.S. I would say the Mental Attitude Award gives ya some braggin rights come the Holidays!
  2. Am I reading this right, Berryman punched some kid at Regionals? If this happened I do not understand how he was able to compete ther rest of the way. Pretty sure that is classified as Flagrant Misconduct which should have eliminated him from further competition in the series. Anyhow, the bottom line in the situation is that there was an illegal move that resulted in an injury of the other wrestler. Someone mentioned that Vlahos could have been called on it the previous week as well at the semi-state. I give credit to Willis for attempting to come out and wrestle the State Championship match, which to me seemed like he was clearly not 100%. It was an unfortunate way to lose a match, but the rule is the rule.
  3. No one will touch McMurray or Tsirtsis this weekend. Mullins may get majored by Tsirtsis.
  4. It has always been pretty tough, even back then. EC in it's prime years and Portage used to be there. I am sure I am missing a few as well that had previous stints in the Al Smith. My hats off to Coach Snyder for trying to keep the tournament very competitive year in and year out.
  5. Thanks Sean, I was definitely poking fun at one of y2's points on class wrestling. Commenting on this matter though, I really don't see McMurray getting beat this weekend. I watched the match with Willis, McMurray was never in danger of losing that match in my opinion. There was a takedown I felt he was not awarded, I believe Willis was supporting his weight on hands or it was close to end of period, anyhow I thought it should have been a 3-0 final. I have not seen McCray, so I am speaking blindly on the matter, I am gonna hold off my opinion until I see McCray Friday night, but my gut tells me that McMurray will be winning his third title Saturday night. Good luck to all at the weight class, which is definitely looking to be one of many entertaining weight classes this weekend!
  6. Congrats Chuck. I mentioned earlier this year one example of his dedication was him turning down an oppurtunity to watch the AFC Championship game LIVE to do the Crown Point kids tourney!
  7. I was gonna say they are all small schools! 8)
  8. 119 - Gregory over Fisher 171- Boots over Wiseman
  9. It will be a nice match to see, but let's not forget that they both have to win 2 before it happens. Last time I checked that Richey kid is one pretty tough dude.
  10. Salas won that match in OT on a penalty point. Full nelson if I recall correctly. cbarnett may have the answer to that cause I think he was officiating.
  11. This happened to my brother in 98 & 99. Same first round match from the previous year. The guy actually was a alternate in 99. Give him credit, he knew who the match was against in 99 and knew the probable outcome but still made the weight and wrestled Friday night.
  12. Noticed that also after looking at the rest of them.
  13. Shouldn't 103 Winning % be .913?
  14. It has been a two year drought for me, but it is time that I return to the glory of being Y2's Pick'em Champ. I have to say that I feel like there was a conspiracy to prevent me from winning again and the format was changed from the first year! ;D Y2, can you post the scoring format please, I could not find it by the actually contest. I think I rememer how it goes, but need a refresher.
  15. This brings to mind a very interseting discussion I have every year with people. I know a lot of guys like to cut/kick/let up their opponents, but I feel that this stategy can be very risky as you move on later in the tournament. Especially when you have a decent lead, why risk being thrown? Just thought I would get some thoughts from everyone.
  16. I would throw Munster into the mix of up and coming programs.
  17. I have noticed that EMD only has two qualifiers this year. When was the last time they did not have a qualifier and when was the last time they did not have a placer?
  18. How about a Stahl vs. Corpe match to get into the Finals! I am sure this one used to happen many times. Anybody with some inside info?
  19. You have to be careful when using win/loss record to determine strength of a weight class. It is a good tool to use, but consider that some kids with more than 2 losses could have lost to a highly ranked and undefeated opponent more than 2 times, or even 2-3 of them depending on their strenght of schedule. I think a good testament to this is at the Merrillville Semi-State. Kids from the Logansport Regional come in with some pretty good records and go up against kids with 6-9 losses and get beat. Now please don't take this as a knock on the Logansport Regionals, some of it is simply the logistics of being able to travel to different parts of the state for tournaments as well as having to fullfill conference obligations.
  20. Mr. John Barnett, Are you an official? If so what do you think about the assistant ref? I ask only because it appears as if you are and would like to get an official's point of view on the topic. Thanks.
  21. Easy there RG, we dont want anyone calling him out on his weight loss program!
  22. Mr. Salt I again do respect your stance on the topic. I do like a great discussion at times, which is what I feel we are doing at this time. I have four children myself, 11, 7, 3, and 2 respectfully. They too do watch me consume adult beverages at time and make me very happy when they respond ewwwwww! when they see me consuming said beverage. I hope that ewwwwww response reamins for a very long time. I don't think the person who started the topic in question meant to offend anyone when they started the thread. There are many posters on this forum of many different ages, some young, some old, and some very old(TAE! j/k). I thought your post was kinda harsh on the person who started it, I guess that is why I felt the need to make my post. Anyhow, it is gone and I will not be losing any sleep over it. P.S. I too am in the criminal justice field and see many bad situations every day.
  23. I think people need to get thicker skin. This is a discussion board. Yes it is about High School wrestling but it is not affiliated with any High School or sanctioned by any governing body related to High School athletics. There many on here whm are old enough to consume said adult beverage. I see where you feel it may have been distasteful, I however did not think it was too bad of a topic. SAltwater did you allow your child to watch the super bowl, or have you ever taken him to a proffessional game. Heck has he ever been to Conseco to watch the wrestling State Finals. If so I have some sad news for you, he has seen some advertisements for adult alcoholic beverages. Those I think expose him to much more than what the topic itself did.
  24. This would probably explain Fort Wayne not doing so well this year since they wrestle each other 6 out of the 14 weight classes Friday night. Other breakdowns go like this: Fort Wayne v. New Castle - 4 Fort Wayne v. Evansville - 4 Merrillville v. New Castle - 4 Merrillville v. Evansville - 4 Eveansville v. New Castle - 6
