I just heard that Jimtown weigh ins are at 8am not 9am. If you are wanting to bring your team, I would verify.
-
Best I wrestled with and best teammate.
DJ Radnovich - Gibson Southern
Best I had ever seen in person
Greg Schaefer - Mater Dai
Best I ever tried to wrestle
Adam Doherty - Jeffersonville
I did go to state finals last year and saw a lot of amazing wrestlers, but these 3 guys from the late 90's will always be the standard for me.

Congratulations to the Titans on another PAC MS championship! I recognize a lot of last names on the roster. Some of those dads were real hammers and now their kids are. Hopefully they will continue their success as they get into high school. Would love to see Gibson Southern High School as competitive as it was back in the 90's under Barnett.

Someone beat me to it… but I was going to say “DJ RADNOVICH!”
I didn't have the $$ to watch DJ at state while we were teammates. Still mad that I missed it. So happy this year to be going and hearing "CLAYTON DEUTSCHER"

I moved back to Indiana about 5 years ago. I live in New Prairie territory, graduated from Gibson Southern, but lived in Terre Haute area through my freshman year. I discovered wrestling in 8th grade and in 1996 I went to the IHSAA wrestling finals to watch Gabe Cook win state. A few weeks later I met him at the YMCA when he was there to talk to the middle school clinic. The instructor thought it would be good for the kids to see a high school match. I got volunteered to wrestle the state champ as a 95 lb 3rd string freshman who had never won a match. He put on a clinic. John Barnett may have taught me to wrestle, but Gabe Cook taught me to love wrestling. Since I discovered that he was the current TH South coach, I have rooted for him and know that he will train champions. Unfortunately on Friday night, I will be in attendance rooting against him. My friend's son is Clayton Deutscher from New Prairie wrestling Alex Rose of TH South. I wish both Mr. Cook and Mr. Rose the best of luck in the future, but I am rooting against you on Friday.

I've seen this young man the last 2 weeks. He is not your average 14 loss wrestler. I don't know who he wrestled, but there aren't that many kids in Indiana that can match him. Best of luck at state! He is a bad draw for someone (sorry don't have 120 bracket memorized).

I can understand the frustration but I think the ref got it right in the first OT. I suppose there was some off camera action at the end?
I understand the frustration on behalf of the Hobart crowd, but ultimately the decision to reverse the take down was the right call. Even if it had been wrong, the language that I heard from that crowd has no place at a high school sporting event. Very low class.

The wrestling was GREAT! The officiating was top notch! But my biggest take away was what great people the Crown Point family is. In particular the Sessa's, Bahl's, and Cruz's who we were sitting closest to. They are favored in almost every weight class and every match, so you want to root against them, but you can't. I learned a lot about how they have built that program and have nothing but respect for them. They are polite and courteous. Next weekend, I will of course will be cheering for the 4 New Prairie Cougars but also all the Crown Point kids as well. Good luck to all East Chicago Semistate wrestlers next weekend.

Preach it! I am 41 and (embarrassing to say) going to my 1st Semistate. I am nervous for the kids I'm rooting for, but so excited for them at the same time. I will truly understand the thrill of victory and agony of defeat once I witness the ticket round.

Looks like Clay Martin is out of the bracket at 220. In his place is Justus Dill of Gibson Southern, 12-20. Dill is a sophomore who lost by fall to Mason Hines in the first round of the Regional. I'm sure this will be a nice experience for Justus and a real bummer for Martin who is a Senior
Great News for Dill and Gibson Southern, who now has 2 SSQ. Both young men (Dill and Klem) will have a great experience to build off of. I am sorry for Martin, this is not the way anyone wants to end a season, especially not the senior one. Good luck to him in his future endeavors.

Completely biased, but New Prairie helped themselves with 6 champs and 3 2nds at sectionals. This is more of a wish list as opposed to predictions, but I think moving 8 on to Semistate is within reason.

I was right with 8 New Prairie to SS (Sorry I underestimated Johnson at 285, it won't happen again). Great job Cougars! I had 80/84 placers. I did not do so well with placements with only 29/84 right. It was a great day of wrestling and a terrific job was done by all wrestlers. Everyone that competed today should be proud of their season's. Also great job hosting by Crown Point. My first time there, but hopefully not my last.

I remember the Team Regional against GS at Evansville Central. I believe it was D.J. Radnavitch's senior year. MD already had the match won by the time tgat weight came up. D.J. loomed ready to rip someone's head off. MD FF'd the last two or three weights GS was MAD MAD MAD. They knew that would be their time to shine. I can't blame them but on the other hand there was no reason to send someone out there to get hammered when we had individual regionals and team Semistate to wrestle yet.
That was actually 97, DJs Junior year, my sophomore year. I was the weak spot on that team. We lost the coin toss and knew we had no room for error (no pins). The next year we won the toss and MD had to wrestle all 14 matches. We still lost. You have a still great program and great coach and GS can't even field a full roster.
-
I know it wasn't a real rivalry, but Gibson Southern had as much respect and animosity towards MD in the mid - late 90's as anyone. We had top 20 teams and had to square off with them at team regionals in the middle of their hay day. My sophomore year, the instructions were to not get pinned. I ended up on the front page of the Evansville Courier Sports page being teched by Van Ness. I then witnessed the best wrestler I had ever seen (Greg Schaefer) tech our 112. We did our part with no pins, but obviously fell well short of the upset. The next year we inched closer, but still fell short in the regional finals. I lost a decision to Todich that year. MD was always so technically sound, no mistakes. I took it as stalling at the time, but they were all well trained wrestlers. They were the standard, and beating one of their wrestlers would have been the pinnacle for me. I never got the chance my senior year. I agreed with the MD vs Indiana post made earlier. Everyone was gunning for them back in the day.

Grandma's home cooked Thanksgiving feast vs. the weigh-in scale at the tournament that Saturday.

Here are the pictures from New Prairie's senior night. It's much better in person.
Thank you, Coach, for posting the pics. Also congratulations on your season, even though there is a lot of work yet to do. I personally did not take any pics. I recorded the events on my friend's tablet for him so that he and his family could focus on their sons big night under the lights.
Galagore, there did not seem to be any safety concerns with the wrestling on the stage. I don't know the exact dimensions of the New Prairie stage, but there seemed to be plenty of room.
On a side note, I predict NP to have 4 at state, 3 placers, 1 finalist.
