Here is the best idea ever!
1: Your team can enter 14 kids no matter what weight.

2: you can enter whatever sectional you want.

3: if you qualify for regionals your team can pick their regional and then same for semi state. Schools covers all cost
4: if you don’t like your draw or how you finish you can do a one day last chance qualifier on Thursday before state. But must make scratch weight on Friday if state.

Hopefully you all know I’m being sarcastic here. The state will never change how wrestling is done. We are the arm pit of high school sports.

Well saying we are the armpit of high school sports is excessive. I've live in Virginia and South Carolina and Indiana is exponentially better than those states. Wrestlebacks are the only thing missing from making the wrestling tournament perfect. Let's relax with the hyperbole.

Good in theory, but as @Y2CJ41 has pointed out, has not worked in other states. Priority 1 (on this topic) is getting to an individual classed tournament. If we can swing an "ultimate tournament" of some sort, great. But we should not forego the classed individual simply because we won't have a "true champion."

Yes we should. Get better and stop making excuses. You could always move to any state bordering Indiana if you want classed that bad. I had to live in states that had 6 and 4 classes respectively and the state tournament was crap. It just becomes the big school division matters and the college coaches just come watch the bid division guys and no one even looks at the small school champ as a real champ.

I'm kind of in the know, but not all the way in the know.  Maybe I'm being naive.  Maybe it's a terminology thing for me.

I'm not defensive towards any one school.  It seems there are a lot of people, who have no idea what they are talking about, accuse the successful programs of recruiting. My definition of recruiting would be for the coaches to actively persuade an athlete to move to their program and to incentivize them to do so. I don't for one second believe the top programs that typically get called out for recruiting like Brownsburg, Crown Point, Center Grove, Cathedral, EMD, etc. are doing this.  I have too much respect for each of those school's coaches to believe they would do this.

If you are referring to recruiting as parents and or athletes talking with each other about being on each other's teams, or saying you should join our team so our kids could wrestle together?  I don't consider that recruiting.  I consider that normal conversations amongst friends.

Believe what you want. And you definitely aren't in the know as much as you think you are. I'm not speaking with inference and I'm most definitely not referring to parents. Once again I havent mentioned programs. But to say it's not happening on a wide scale, state wide is willful ignorance

You can’t say that when some 4th place finishers are gifted better draws than champs and runner-ups.

I can because every kid has control of what's on the mat in front of them. Every kid has to deal with the same system. Should we just start picking 16 kids since every sectional, regional and semi state aren't created equal?

Are you claiming coaches are recruiting or parents are recruiting?  I don't believe either.  If you have proof, show it.

Just because you willfully close your eyes to it doesn't mean its not happening. Parents can do whatever they want, they aren't bound to the IHSAA. But are coaches doing it? 100%. Just because you don't believe it, doesn't make it untrue. I also don't believe I mentioned any schools specifically, so why are you getting so defensive?

i am probably not the right person to ask that question because i do have a lot of text from around the state about open recruiting that i can share if you really want me too. Incoming 8th graders now, graduated wrestlers, wrestlers who wrestle out of state.

or we can keep it as a joke and say kids want to wrestle with their buddies

    Exactly

Honestly, I think kids can go where they and their parents think will suit them best.  If they want to uproot their family and move into a district, then more power to them.  Also, I think it's bullshit that kids can't transfer freely.  They wouldn't want to transfer if they felt that their best interests lie with staying with the same program.  I get it, if these were the rules, the top schools in the state would have to work double to get kids, but..... like I've said, I truly believe people should be able to make what choice they feel will provide the best future for themselves.  There's a reason my family chose Munster and we moved CJ and his ketchup on hotdog loving mother into the district, and, believe it or not, it wasn't because they are a wrestling powerhouse.

People who physically move are literally doing it the proper and legal way. Nothing to do with what im saying.

People won’t admit it, but there is a lot of luck involved in the random pairing format. The fact that you can have a 1-3 record at the state finals and be considered top 8 in the state is kind of ridiculous. The whole tournament series needs realignment. A lot of people also don’t like change or don’t want to see better for future generations, so they think it’s worth it to compete in a flawed system that doesn’t truly measure how good you actually are but how lucky you get. There is ZERO reason Hunter May and Tommy Gibbs or Preston Haines and Ty Henderson should be wrestling in the quarterfinals on Saturday. They’ve separated themselves from the rest of the state aside from the #1s ahead of them and this is how they’re rewarded.

    Don't place 4th?

  9. Since we are on the topic of injury time, sure give choice or give a judgement for a takedown if it's in the process of a takedown. We already have extra nearfall for injury time in those situations. But also, let's start assessing team point deductions for when grown men in the stands start booing children for calling injury time. Some people have forgotten everything the sport of wrestling was supposed to teach us.

Those last two I really don’t know much about? Other than their family names. Both title contenders? Weight? School?

Vargo beat thrive 2x, MS State 2nd and 1st. His 2nd was a 3-1 loss to Stanley. Almost teched Guyer. Kid is gonna be on the podium at minimum. Placed 4th at NHSCA twice. Harper won MS State and NHSCAs.

  11. Some things to think about when watching freestyle to help with understanding the scoring. The scoring is set up to reward the wrestling creating action. That's why sometimes even when the defending wrestler rolls someone through, unless they stop the momentum or change the direction of the momentum, the attacking wrestler will get the 2 or 4. Also, control is completely irrelevant in freestyle, exposure is all that matters. If you initated the move that caused exposure, you get points. Also, if a move starts inbounds, you can finish it out of bounds for the full points. Also, criteria is again set up to reward the wrestler that took the biggest risk or initated the most action in the match. Thats why highest point move and cautions are 1 and 2 on the list. Hopefully this helps with the frustration and makes it more understandable when you see it.

It could be as simple as stating them back in neutral after say 20-30sec of no top scoring occuring.  No escape in this instance since it wasn’t earned, but just a stalemate of sorts and restart. That would be similar to freestyle but with a little more time to work. You still accumulate riding time along the way, but just can’t milk it out without getting additional takedowns.

Nah, I still think if you want to be on your feet, you still need to get out. But if top guys have to work for falls and they get a 5 second count for hooking the ankle, you at least have a chance to get out.
