  1. Lee is more like 98% with Glory at 2% Don't forget about Cassioppi at 285. He and Kerk should go at it Friday night. Cass beat Kerk at the big 10's last year.
  2. While it was a good win, I don't think this moves the needle much in regards to respect for the program. They beat a similar program that has been struggling for years.
  3. Yep, looks like a fringe AA at this point. But there is plenty of time left in the season
  4. Same thing happened in '89. Dan Ritzert won a wrestle off late in the season at 171 after not being the starter and went on to place 6th at 171
  5. Agreed, but where do you put him? He lost to both Micic and Red in HS so you have to give them the nod.
  6. It's almost insufferable. Makes me want to root for the Red and White bulldogs should they match up with the Purple bulldogs
  7. 2000's team wins this round robin hypothetical tournament.
  8. We simply don't have the horses to beat Brownsburg. Unfortunately we will give up way too many bonus points and that match up will be lopsided. I think the CG/MD match could be a toss up. I need to look at the CG lineup a bit more to confirm. EDIT: I looked closer at the match ups. On paper (state rankings) CG should win comfortably. A few swing matches that go in MD's favor and it could get interesting.
  9. Round 1 Covaciu dec Weinzapfel Dickens dec Hooper Conway dec Laughlin Slivka dec Runyan Carr dec South Hasseman dec Snyder Carr dec Welch Brooks dec Mayer Kopnisky dec Harvey Wildeman dec Cooper
  10. '87 Belmont championship team had 0 state champs.
  11. What happened with the Goodwin DQ in the 3rd place match?
  12. Merrillville cannot claim Gable Steveson. No way, no how.
  13. I remember watching Matt Wills in '91. he was a grown ass man. Launched Frank Hammond from Perry Meridian right off the bat. Hammond managed to get off his back only to be cradled for the pin in about a minute. Wills ended up winning Sr nationals that year.
  14. Guys like Matt Wills, Demetrius Jackson and Andy Schneider would be very successful against any group of heavy's. Don't forget Chad Ruggieri who was launching guys all over the place
  15. I think if a wrestler like Mendez has a shot at 4 state titles then they will stay and try to get it. If their shot a 4 is gone (LIke the Lee's and Carroll), it makes sense from a development standpoint to skip senior year (assuming the kid is ok with not doing sr year stuff like prom and graduation) and getting into a better training situation, maybe wrestling some opens, etc. than it does beating up on kids that have no shot to beat them. Realistically, nobody at 285 would come close to beating CC this year, so why not make the jump early? If that headlock from Koontz played out differently, maybe Mendez would have foregone his last year too
  16. I'm sure it has happened at some point. The closest one I can think of off the top of my head was Josh Hardy from Princeton. Lost to Jared Williams from Ev Harrison at Regional and Semi State and then beat Williams for the state title. They were in different conferences and sectionals, but that's the closest I can think of.
  17. I don't follow MMA at all, it really doesn't interest me. But that's great for Brooks.
  18. Who you got? 125: McKee vs Terukina 133: Byrd vs McGee 157: Andonian vs Lewan 197: Warner vs Elam 285: Cass vs Kerk 184: Brooks vs Keckeisen 141: Mathews vs Alirez 165: Carr vs Monday 165: Hamiti vs O'Toole 174: Starocci vs Lewis I didn't include the women's weights as I am not familiar with any of them.
  19. I have no beef with you. I simply disagreed with your assertion that MMA is the most popular sport right now, which is what you said in your original post. I see you have edited that one to say "one of the most popular sports..." in which case I can agree with that.
  20. I think this you are going to see this happen more and more. CC would not get much our of pinning 99% of the heavyweights he would have faced this year. His development will be better served going to OK St. and their RTC. Just like we saw with the Lee brothers. I think if a kid is in line to be a 4x state champ, he will finish it out. But if that is off the table, then a truly elite senior will bypass his sr year. Especially in a state like IN that doesn't have the depth to push a guy like CC this year.
  21. Why didn't Slivka and Brewer wrestle at the mountaineer open last weekend?
