  1. Why? Because they choose to wrestle 4A in team state? If they chose to wrestle in their enrollment class would you still not want to classify them as a small school?
  2. Should we do anything about the large schools that aren't having success? Ben Davis had 0 qualifiers, Carmel only 3 for example. How about programs that have strong tradition that aren't having that success now? Lawrence North only 1 qualifier. Castle only 1. Bloom South with 3. With all those advantages, shouldn't they be doing better?
  3. Looks like we have different definitions of recognition. Recognition to me is state titles, because that would tend to get more looks from colleges than, say the 8th place finisher in 1A. I get it. Some schools view success differently and would be thrilled to have a few qualifiers every couple of years or so. Some would be happy with a placer or 2 and some would be happy to get a champ every now and then. In this hypothetical, and that is likely all class wrestling will ever be, I have EMD opting to stay in their enrollment class. there would be several years that they would have 10+ placers and several champs. They would run roughshod over the competition. All I'm saying is that I think small schools would soon realize that they have a rather large obstacle to get over to reach their goal of winning a few titles, much less a team title, if the Red/Gold giant from down south decided to stay in 1A. But they have demonstrated that they are willing to bump up to take on the mega schools and would likely do so in the unlikely event that class wrestling becomes a reality. Schools like North Posey and Tell City would certainly be a big obstacle for a lot of smaller schools to overcome as well. I think you'd still see just a handful of teams snatching up the medals in the smallest class on a year to year basis.
  4. I understand that simply qualifying is a big deal at a lot of schools. However, IMO without those small schools breaking through and turning those qualifiers into champs in this hypothetical scenario, I think it would get stale and lose some steam.
  5. In my scenario you would only be increasing recognition for really one school, EMD. You would still have kids from smaller schools saying they have no shot because EMD is in their way. Just like you have it now where they are supposedly saying that they have no shot because Brownsburg or Crown Point or Perry is in their way.
  6. And if MD chose to stay in their enrollment class? What would happen to all the small schools if MD was winning 5-7 individual titles every year? If it is all about getting kids more recognition, they logically MD should stay in their enrollment class and get more of their guys state titles and college offers, right?
  7. Hummel graduated in '94. Definitely wasn't him.
  8. Illinois kid got screwed. Clearly had back points against red, no clue why they took them off the board. Then the adjusted the riding time and put roughly 20 seconds back on the clock.
  9. Anything with plaid is out. I couldn't care less, but my wife said "man, that's ugly". Sorry Chesterton. The Zubas is just too busy. Sometimes simple is more. I liked Lemley's, Cathedral's, and EMD's.
  10. Not scoring friday nigh is the dumbest thing ever. It's like not keeping score in the first quarter of a football game. Teams like Perry, MD, CP and Chesterton might need those advancement and bonus points to help with the team race.
  11. WRPSG were awesome. Opening ceremonies were olympic-esque. In summer of '87, I think, that the Goodwill Games were in Indy. I remember that the winners of the WRPSG got to escort the Goodwill Games wrestlers to the mat. Unfortunately for me, I wasn't one of them. Correction, it was the Pan Am games in Indy in '87.
  12. Matt Wills, HWT champ in '91, was a monster. Hit a lateral and a cradle on the '92 Champ Frank Hammond in about a minute in the finals. Jason Greer, 2x from Princeton
  13. Yep. No perry list is complete without Gil Journey on it.
  14. Haven't heard the recruiting angle in a while. Well done.
  15. A couple of huge matches on Friday and Saturday morning could go a long way to determining the team race. Seng vs Billerman - Huge Saturday morning match Cruz vs Zirkelbach - can Zirkelbach help out his dad's alma mater and take out a crown point kid Friday night? Egli vs Cottey - Cottey is obviously the favorite, but is he healthy and will he wrestle? Egli/Cottey winner vs Bahl Saturday morning Demarco vs Coy Hammack Saturday morning Ross vs Lemley - Another huge one right out of the gate Lemley vs Morton - Perry likely loses one Friday night Carleton Perry vs Frazier Friday night Sam Goin vs Lowery - Saturday morning Freeman vs Torres - I think the winner goes to the finals Kaiser vs Hunter May or McKivitz from Perry on Saturday morning Koontz vs undefeated Hardcastle Saturday morning Brock Ellis vs Tyler Conley Saturday morning - Avon could throw a wrench in Chesterton's hopes here Conway vs Estrada Saturday morning Cruz vs Law Saturday morning, the winner then likely gets Robert Major in the semis Kregar vs Dale at 170 Friday night - Perry could lose another here Buchanan vs undefeated Layman on Saturday morning - I think Buchanan takes this one and Chesterton takes another hit Sollars vs Warren in the semis - should be a fantastic match Demarco vs Parker on Friday night Bates vs Ruhlman in the semis I threw a couple semi finals in here, but these early matches will make or break team title hopes for MD, CP, Perry and Chesterton. I see MD with 2 champs (Baumann and Sollars), CP with one (Mendez), Perry with one (Cottey if healthy) and Chesterton with 2 (Lemley and Bates)
  16. Any word on Cottey's condition? That slam didn't look good at all.
  17. At least you get to see it in person.
  18. Nick Lee manhandled Rooks. He's just on another level (along with Eierman and SeaBass) compared to the rest of the 141's in the country. Luigs was scrappy in his loss to RBY. RBY is just so quick South looked very tentative the first 2/3 of the match. Lee was dominant on their feet. Washington came out of the gates strong and took Starocci straight to his back for 6 points. looked like he ran out of gas and got turned 2x in the second, but held on for a big win.
  19. Washington needs to work on that gas tank and his bottom wrestling. He gets that solved and he could be very dangerous.
  20. I think there are some lying around in closets, classrooms and coaches offices.
  21. Stinks for all involved. Whether it is injury or COVID related it sucks that teams are not full strength for sectionals. I suppose it happens a few times every year, but I'm hoping COVID doesn't make it worse this year.
