I’ll be honest… For years, this was the draw you wanted at Conseco/Bankers Life/Gainbridge at the State Finals. If you had someone from the Fort Wayne Semi-State that wasn’t Bellmont or Yorktown after the meat grinder that was Evansville or New Castle, your immediate thought was, “Easy W.” Now… It’s actually looking like things are a bit different. Of course, the FWSS had produced some hammers over the years that made finals appearances (Dominique Stauffer, Corbin Maddox), some with multiple (Fletcher Miller, Christian Hunt, Clay Fielden, Ike Ruble), and even a champion or two each year (Devon Jackson, Garrett Pepple, Rhett Hiestand, Brayden Curtis, Brad Laughlin, Hunter Watts), but in recent years (since 2020-21), it feels like they’ve been extremely competitive, have produced hammers regularly, and are no longer the “weak” semi-state a state qualifying wrestler hopes to draw. There have been two heavyweight state champions (Reeve Muncie, Marshall Fishback), a nationally-ranked Olympic style phenomenon (De’Alcapon Veazy), and more true title contenders (Jensen Boyd, Ayden Bollinger, Brady Beck)… And with the resurgence of a program like Delta, the emergence of programs like Rochester and Western, and the consistency of programs such as Bellmont and Jay County, I must ask… What’s the secret? How has Fort Wayne turned the tide since the new decade and become a threat?

Rochester is at ECSS now with some tough kids who should be on the podium . I think kids wrestling year round helps even things out some more these days training at year round clubs .

Hey Center Grove according to their webcast has Varsity A, Varsity B, and Varsity C. Do they have JV & Freshmen squads too?

Don’t matter what they call it  only one kid per weight class come post season when it counts. I see a lot of the deeper schools giving JV kids some varsity matches though.

It would have been fun to see Gibson and Hockaday compete.  Jake looked amazing Saturday and made it look easy in each match except for the semi finals against Evan.

Evan wrestled him well and was a great match to watch.  I'm happy for you and Evan and the success he is having at Mt Carmel.  But as a fan, I wish Evan was competing in Indiana.  Would love to see him and Jake run it back under the lights at state.  Maybe next year.....

Thanks and yes was expecting to see either Mason or Jake for sure. We would have liked to see him there in the finals but was grateful for the opportunity . Jake is a great wrestler and respect what he has done . The biggest thing we will miss is the Atmosphere for Championship weekend in Indiana. I know we will all be at the Ironman and Carnahan again next year so could meet again but don’t think we will be back full time in Indiana as Evan enjoys everything MC has to offer. We still are Indiana people and will continue to support and follow.

I have, He does not and I think he is a force and will most likely place high on the podium at state.  But I IMO Rev and Nate Rioux at 113 are on a different planet wrestling vs. the field @113. And While it may not end in a pin in the first I think Rev dominates the entire match regardless of the score.

I respect everyone’s picks or opinions . I’m interested to see how he does at the lower weight in a big tournament like this weekend . I can speak from our experiences and going lower didn’t help the way my son felt energy wise at Super 32 compared to weight above . I think Rev and Nate both front runners and tough. We could see some match ups this weekend .

He did not wrestle vs. Chesterton either.  So thought maybe he was out.  Agree seeds don't mean anything.

I’m not sure the reason for sure but I can see a kid not wanting to make weight on Wednesday night and having to make it Friday morning again if the cut is decent . I think Brady Ison was not in line up yesterday either .

Avon Maybe 4 I think? Penn @ #6? Do we have the results of the Carmel meet with them? I don't see them beating WC, CATHEDRAL, or EMD straight up.

    my top 10  4A

    1-Brownsburgh

    2-Crown Point

    3-Center Grove

    4-Avon

    5-Warren Central

    6-Cathedral

    7-EMD

    8-Perry Meridian

    9-Penn

    10-Carmel

    in the mix

    HSE

    Zionsville

    Ben Davis

I maybe off, but I think Brownsburg can beat Crown Point straight up. Be fun to see

    106 CP Newell over May                                                                                                     CP-6 BB-0

113 BB   REV. pins him in the first not sure how he is ranked as high as he is but okay CP-6 BB-6

120 BB Haines gets a decision over Jendreas                                                                  CP-6 BB-9

126 toss up should be a great match and looking forward to it.

maybe the best match up of the dual. Hawkins can be sticky and ride Braylon is a warrior I give toss up to to CP decision.                                                                                                  CP-9 BB-9

    132 BB JAKE 6                                                                                                                    CP-9 BB-15

138 BB ISON DECISION OVER SHEPARD.                                                                         CP-9 BB-18

144 BB Parker Reynolds win by pin                                                                                   CP-9 BB-24

150 BB Tommy Gibbs pins Oscar Baca?                                                                           CP-9 BB-30

157 BB I got Day with a decision over Griffin Van Tichelt. rankings close                     CP-9 BB-33

    165 CP 6 Rinehart over derringer with a pin                                                                   CP-15 BB-33

    175 Toss up lean White CP 3                                                                                            CP-18 BB-33

    190 BB 6 Henry pins Austin Reading                                                                               CP-18 BB-39

215 CP Will over brewer in a Major here.                                                                         CP-22 BB36

    285 CP Paul with a decision                                                                                             CP-25 BB-36

Just an opinion here I could a decision swing one way or another on some of these. but I think BB is the better all around squad.

Might want to look up the Gavin Lewis results if not sure who he is . Has wrestled heavier and has beat Ohio High school state champs and took 3rd at IHPO at 123. I don’t think he gets pinned very often either .

Never made any…….. he threw out MC by 6.    Let’s see the weight by weight break down.    Toss it out there…. Back it up?

I’m not sure anyone unless close to either team knows the line ups completely. I think it will be close and bonus points will play a big part. I haven’t made a prediction either nor have I asked someone to back up their prediction or explain match by match breakdown. I do know on 1-12-24 we will have an answer and hope both teams are healthy and at full strength .

I think both are great. I think and feel fairly confident barring any unforeseen events that Jake is a 4 timer. He may wind up as one of the best HS ever to come out of Indiana. Thrine maybe jumps up a weight(138) makes the most sense. He is a  football player so staying small is probably not going to happen. I think he would have better chance at success bumping up. 138 is not a clearly defined as some may think. Only issue is Gavin Whitehead stayed at 138 it looks like unless there is plans to move up. let the year play out a bit. Would not be surprised to see some other changes at 132.

I think unless you have seen Clinton Shepherd up close most don’t have a good feel for how good he is because hasn’t done as much Indiana stuff. He will be hard to beat come February. Also Kyrel and Ison listed at 138 also top contenders . Thrine was super impressive last season and can’t want to see it all play out.

I wanted to say 8 but if Smith is gone he will be a champ and I want to see hockaday win 4. Jake is the real deal beating champs along the way.

The real exciting match would be if Hawkins went 32 and we can see the rubber match they are 1-1 right. But Jake isn't trying to go 26

Could get Hock vs Thrine a match that many would like to see.

    CP wrestle off

    113: Gavin Lewis d Logan Haney 2-1

Wow, 7th place finisher last year as a freshman without a roster spot.

What about Landon Haines at Brownsburg??  From the Projected line-up

he may not be a Starter! Was 6th place last year.

Or Center Grove HWT spot it is going to be a Wrestle off between

Johnson & Schott , by Projected line-ups!!  Very Deep with Talent

Haines was hurt that is most likely why you don’t see his name in the line up or rankings.

Both of these regionals would beat probably Kentucky’s state champs and Illinois state champs from 1 to 3A.

Kentucky has some absolute hammers in the Raney brothers. Also Illinois is a pretty deep state with plenty of Top National kids. Illinois at Cadet Duals this summer makes the finals in Both Freestyle and Greco. Also a lot of Super 32 placers .
