  1. I never saw any reports on how the Avon child contracted the virus. We’re they out of the country? Were their parents? Anybody know?
  2. Another one tomorrow. Same place, same time, same price!!
  3. Where’s it at? It’s not on track and I can’t find it on ISWA.com. Maybe it’s not showing up because I am on mobile?
  4. What's Cathedral wrestling's secret? 'Best coaching staff in the state of Indiana' BRIAN HARMON | SPECIAL FOR INDYSTAR 1:38 p.m. EST Feb. 23, 2020 INDIANAPOLIS – Keeping a keen eye on a third-place match at the IHSAA Wrestling State Finals from one of two designated coaching chairs per team on the mat’s periphery, Cathedral coach Jeff Brown shouts encouragement to senior Tyler Wagner. During a break in the action, fellow Irish coach Michael Venezia pats Wagner on the shoulder and provides additional advice. Brown is not the Cathedral head coach. Neither is Venezia. Sean McGinley believes in delegation — and in his assistant coaches. “I have a lot of trust with my assistants,” said McGinley, a 1988 Cathedral graduate in his 20th season as his alma mater’s wrestling coach. “These coaches work so hard with these kids and they’ve got relationships with them, and they wrestle with them everyday. And I want to put that best person out there that knows that wrestler.“ It’s a philosophy that works. With McGinley often viewing matches several dozen feet from the action, Cathedral captured its third-straight team championship and fourth since 2014 on Saturday at Bankers Life Fieldhouse. The Irish scored two individual titles: Zeke Seltzer at 120 pounds and Holden Parsons at 285 pounds. Ultimately, it was depth that propelled the Irish to the banner with 102 points, edging Crown Point (93.5). Cathedral’s Logan Bailey (138 pounds) was runner-up; Elliott Rodgers (160 pounds) grabbed third place; and Wagner (170 pounds) took fourth place. Each state finisher, along with the remaining Irish standouts who had a part in sectional, regional and semistate team crowns leading up to Saturday, has relied on a variety of assistant coaches. Whether it's Brown, Venezia, Anthony Bill, Mo Gunn, Brian Seltzer or Brandon Wright, each Cathedral grappler has tapped into a variety of knowledge. “One thing I’m proud to say is that my coaches aren’t only my coaches, but also my friends,” Rodgers said. “One of my biggest supporters is coach Bill. He’s helped me ever since my freshman year. They all have, but he has especially worked with me. To have him sit in my corner makes me feel really good because we’ve worked on things and he knows how I wrestle.” The staff has a wealth of experience, not the least of which includes Brian Seltzer’s long tenure as head coach at Elkhart Memorial and Lawrence North through 2016. Admittedly biased, Zeke Seltzer (Brian’s son) believes, “Our coaching staff is the best coaching staff in the state of Indiana, by far.” The collective coaching effort has raised the Cathedral wrestling program to the lofty athletic heights normally associated with the school, which has captured multiple football, volleyball and other IHSAA team state titles. Prior to 2014, the Irish had not won a wrestling team championship. Under McGinley’s tenure, 108 wrestlers have qualified for the state finals, with 83 of the grapplers going on to place in the top eight, according to IndianaMat.com. “Whether it’s me or coach Brown or coach Seltzer, I want to give the kid the opportunity to succeed,” McGinley said. “It’s not about me, it’s about these kids. If I don’t go out there (to the mat) ever, as long as they’re winning, I’m happy.” In a year’s time, Cathedral will aim for a fourth-straight wrestling state title, a feat not accomplished since Evansville Mater Dei’s string of nine straight titles from 1995 through 2003. Of the eight Irish state qualifiers Friday and Saturday — including Evan Dickey (106 pounds), Johnny Parker (182 pounds) and Jacob Huffman (195 pounds), who were eliminated Friday — only Seltzer, Dickey and Parker will return. A graduating senior, Rodgers has faith that the program is in good hands. “McGinley is your biggest fan,” Rodgers said. “He always has your back. He’s the guy that if you have a problem, he’s got your back and he will deal with it 100%. He is not only a great wrestling coach, but a great friend to have.” https://www.indystar.com/picture-gallery/sports/high-school/2020/02/23/ihsaa-wrestling-state-finals-2020-championship-matches/4847084002/
  5. i think he screen shotted at 0:00 time on the clock. It’s on track. Free to gold members.
  6. @bwoodjc89 I heard they are going to class it but will make Jay County stay in largest class based on recent performance.
  7. My two cents: these threads are pointless.
  8. Yes that was the post. Initially I took it as though this is the protocol officials go by. Should have taken more time reading it. Seems like there should be a consistent protocol in these situations. In the NFL, they can’t overturn a call unless it can be confirmed in video review that the first call was wrong. I think if it were like that in HS wrestling, this situation would have been one of those “the call on the mat stands”. Meaning, they couldn’t confirm it was wrong. I understand the second ref can’t overturn the call, but either way it was changed based on the 2nd refs input, obviously.
  9. I went back and watched it and saw it was very close. Of course, there is bias here on my part but I don’t think Fielden is scooting outta that. Like you said, awesome match, great wrestlers either way.
  10. It was interesting that Bankers Life security made TSA agents look like waitstaff at TGI Fridays.
  11. I went back and read the post I was referring to. I see that this official was speaking of his own system. Thanks for the detailed response. Makes sense.
  12. Very questionable takedown at that. Out of bounds and Wagner had a crotch lock. I hope an official comes in and answers my question in the thread I made.
  13. I read here a couple weeks back an official saying that the 2nd ref will only overturn a call if they are 100% sure the other ref got it wrong. In the semi finals match at 170, Tyler Wagner had Fielden reversed with Fielden simultaneously going to his back at the very end of the 3rd period. Ref called 2 reversal, and the other ref overturned saying it was only loss of control. Even if those situations more often end up getting called as loss of control rather than reversal, how can the 2nd ref be 100% sure it was loss of control and not a reversal?
  14. Wow. Stuff got real pretty quick. Best wishes on a speedy recovery, GenHH.
  15. My best bet would be CG edging out Brownsburg. Can Preston wrestle in it?
  16. I tip the hat. Self deprecating humor is my favorite genre.
  17. Checking in so I can say I was a part of history. What a thread.
  18. I don’t see that. Knowing who the best is is what this my argument is all about. 1st-8th. Class wrestling would muddy it all up.
  19. Cox said the reason there are no wrestle-backs is because the whole point is to determine who the best is. Well... why do they place 8 then? And I am saying that if the best 8 wrestlers from each weight class aren’t at state, then the team champion, which is supposed to indicate who the best team is, isn’t accurate. I agree, it has worked the last two years, but... I still think there should be wrestle-backs.
  20. Thanks for sharing that. He says it’s because the state tournament is about determining who the 14 best wrestlers are. I would say it should be about determining who the best 112 wrestlers are. And further, without an official Team State, the IHSAA team champions are determined by the Individual state tournament points scoring and I don’t think we are getting the most accurate picture since all placements score points, and kids that would place often end up never making it to state.
  21. The only reason I have heard that makes sense to me is if power schools beat each other before or in ticket rounds, maybe IHSAA gets more butts in seats at Bankers Life since other schools that would not make it otherwise, make it. This is somewhat conspiracy theory, but can anyone else give a reason why it’s like this? Has Faulkens or anyone at IHSAA ever given the reason why?
  22. Curious about Fuqua. Says he has 4 losses in the bracket, but I only see the one pin by Dickens on Indianamat. Anybody know where the other 3 losses came from? And what happened in the match vs Dickens before he was pinned?
  23. He was another one that I was looking for to win. If you’ve seen him wrestle recently, you know he’s gonna be in the conversation. Too bad he got injured, hope he recovers well and is back at it soon.
  24. Great tournament yesterday! Talked to a Center Grove parent that told me there were 200 more wrestlers this year than last year, which looks like near a 50% increase. Big up, Indiana Wrestling! I thought the tournament was ran very well and we got out at about 6:30pm with the biggest bracket in the tourney. Not too shabby, Center Grove! Couple things I want to say. First: Bryce Denton and my son Dillon had a little bit of a rivalry going on it seems, but we wish him no ill will and were really sorry to see the injury he suffered in the 3rd/4th place match. Hope it isn’t as serious as it looked and he has a speedy recovery. Thoughts and prayers to him and his family. Second: I want to give a shoutout to a couple surprises we had. One of the things I love about all this is (long-winded) my favorite thing in life is watching my own kids grow, and pleasantly surprise me along the way. I have a jr at IU so I feel I can see a good bit of the spectrum here. And getting to know kids in the wrestling community over the last few years and seeing them grow and surprise us is kinda like an extension of our own family. Kudos to all parents who support their kids and give them all the opportunities to achieve things that pleasantly surprise us! There were quite a few surprises, but I am only going to mention a couple. If anybody wants to add to this with any big surprises or kudos I failed to give or see, that would be awesome. —Tanner Tishner!!! This guy is a great wrestler and is the one I had in mind when I made the post saying not everyone had signed up yet, and to expect some surprises based off predictions that were being made. I knew it would surprise some that he became the 95lb Champ, but it was no surprise to me!! —Zach Lang!!! Zach has been getting better and better working out with Coach Brandon Wright at FIWC. He did not cut at all and was an undersized 132, made it to the finals vs Brady Ison. He ended 3rd after losing true 2nd 7-5. He took it rough but we are ecstatic at how much he has improved. Again, awesome day. Big thanks to parents, wrestlers, and tournament workers!!
