  1. One problem we came across as a small program and us still being in season. Was who would coach our kids if they went ? High School coaches can't coach in season on Sunday - we weren't sure since we still have a wrestler competing this weekend if it would be an issue. Our club coaches and middle school coaches are also High School coaches. Ultimately we didn't send any kids anyway - but that was a concern when we were discussing sending them. Anyone have a clear understanding of that rule ? Thanks
  2. You're welcome , it is my pleasure ! Lots of parents and coaches lose sight of what's most important - during all the talk about how tough that match will be - I just wanted to shed some light on how great of a young man he is !!
  3. Cummings is one awesome young man. I will tell you a story in my first encounter with him. My son decided he wanted to wrestle and after not winning a spot in 7th grade and wreslting part time during the season. One of his friends who was really good told him to come out to RWA and train after the season. My son was out of shape (just like me ) and we didn't push him into anything unless he asked. He hadn't asked till he was 12. I sign him up for RWA and he is having a really hard time - one day about a month after we were going a young man comes over to my son and works with him and talks to him. Tells him don't give up and you can improve and encourages him all practice. That young man was Colton - I didn't know him or his family and his dad also encouraged my son that night. My son stuck with it that summer and went back and won a spot as an 8th grader. This year as a sophomore he went to regionals out of a tough sectional - he wrestled 120 for 3 years if that tells you how out of shape he was. This year he jumped up with growth. Without Cummings and young men like him my son might have given up. It's that type of character this sport builds and win or lose this weekend that kid is one awesome young man
  4. Awesome info! Quick glance 9 of the 18 freshmen 106 (6) & 113 (3)
  5. It was only tied because the ref gave 1 point for the initial slam , then another return caused another point , the final return was DQ. Bautista was up 4-3 before the slams. He returned him hard , but he followed him down and he did not have an arm trapped that i could see. After the first point , you have to stop doing it that way - the last return was on a takedown attempt I believe and Alex was behind him on a scramble - that return would have given Bautista a 6-5 lead. As A coach you have to implore him not to do it again - it was a tough situation for Alex he needed to return him as Demien was going towards out of bounds. I don't agree with the call , but after the ref established he would call it - you have to figure something out. My son had been returned just as hard many times , with no calls. It was a tough situation
  6. you might be saying merrilville regional next year though !
  7. I only count 6 champs from Calumet. Great showing either way
  8. 106 did not play out the way many of us thought. That's why you have to wrestle the matches - great job today !
  9. Haven't been there in years , thanks for reminding me. I might "have" to drive my truck separate from the bus.
  10. Wrestle backs here is a situation we are possibly coming across. At the CP regional 132 the 1 seed suffered a concussion during his victory and didn't wrestle again. Sounds like he will not wrestle this weekend - so an alternate would take his place. That alternate was the 4 seed from his sectional that lost to Jack Tolin as he won the regional easily. This leaves out kids who beat that 4 seed during sectional.
  11. I asked my son. He doesn't want to Go. Made it to regionals. He was devestated when he lost and says it's not the same. He plays baseball too so that could be a part of it. Won't leave the room till the last kid done either way , just doesn't want to compete right now.
  12. Regional talk is Portage Merrilville Crown Point Chesterton Lowell Valpo KV Wheeler And more that's the gist though To start This would Put out kids that would get to semi state in the current format and other kids would advance that wouldn't under the current. Which would make better kids siting out beciase their regional got tougher - That's how it could be tougher. And for the record I advise not posting when you're at work at the mill getting angry that your boss is sleeping and you're doing everything.
  13. we are discussing advancing out of regional - let's not get ahead of ourselves
  14. That's a tough matchup as 1-4 - 120 at CP is deep. Could we see all the CP sectional placers from 120 advance ?
  15. I predict tacos in the hospitality room - was Italian last week.
  16. Did you catch the 3rd place matches at CP ? Will you have the finals archived at CP. always do a great job !
  17. Saying Coon been battling Mono and has been sick last couple weeks. So unfortunate.
