Yes. I should have made it clear. I'm simply pointing out the budget constraints that many schools are under. I'm not justifying what any one school does or doesn't do under those constraints. I don't like it anymore than anyone here. And, I would agree that these circumstances can provide cover for decisions that have nothing to do with a virus.

Sure. Perhaps my post wasn't clear. I'm not making a political statement and certainly I'm not blaming athletes or students in general. I know you want your kids to wrestle, believe me I want my kid to wrestle. They've all worked incredibly hard. My post was an observation. Having worked at an institution I am keenly aware, having watched colleagues lose their jobs, that no one wants to go totally online and/or shut down programs. Most schools like mine are largely driven by tuition dollars. Shutting down would simply be a matter of public health. I will agree that students just want normal and who in their right mind would blame them. They're kids. That's what they are supposed to do. And, unfortunately, I think ultimately that is what they are going to do. I don't believe you can stop an 18 years old from being an 18 year old. And, in those circumstances you aren't going to stop an infectious virus from being an infectious virus. I have a difficult time seeing how that has anything to do with officials, lawsuits, or politics. I can't even begin to tell you how much we've done to try and protect and provide a normal and safe environment for our students, faculty, and staff. That can all go out the window with 'one' on or off-campus event. How and where do universities safely quarantine a large group of infected students? We all want normal, but that's isn't where we are.

Yep. A lot can be covered under that umbrella. However, a large part of what happens to the schools/programs are in the hands of student athletes and the students in general. And, these are 18-20 year old kids that will do the things 18-20 year old kids do.

I can't agree more. It's not the media. It's the UNKNOWN. The Chinese didn't shut down whole parts of their country because of media exaggeration. Don't trust the media go to the CDC, NIH, John Hopkins or State Health agency sites. Watch Congressional hearings. The flu infects at 1 to 1 this thing 'appears' to spread at 1 to 2. Cycle that out 10 times and you get 10 infections for the flu and 1K for Covid-19. And, the mortality of this thing 'appears' to be 10x that of the flu (A Facui before Congress yesterday). Italy went from 10 cases to 12,500 in two weeks with a 164 deaths yesterday alone. That's a growth rate of ~120,000% and even if you factor in increased testing that's astronomical. There is difference between panic and expecting our populace and institutions have a sense of urgency and being a "little irrational". No the world isn't going to end, but it's a serious problem, particularly for the 48M that are most at risk (including children with asthma).

And this is why it's difficult to just sit down and ignore them. I have seen groups harass people. A few years ago I had a guy physically block me from entering a nearly completely open section. We had words, but rather than escalating the situation, with kids present, I choose to keep looking. For the next few years I decided to get there first (at 6:00A). And, guess what, it was still difficult getting a good seats. As I said previously, I have no problem with folks saving a few seats, but whole sections??? This is not the way you want to your premier event run.

Yep. And that's how it happens. I guess I don't necessarily blame them; they are playing within the rules allowed. This should be taken care of by the organization. On the surface, it does not appear it should be that difficult to sort out. Why can't the BL staff prevent it? Why can't schools have a designated number of seats? Why can't there be pricing differentials?

I spend most week nights at a couple of academies. I can say this without doubt, the State Finals are loaded with those kids. It would be interesting to know what percentage of the kids at the State Finals have attended an academy at least three years. I would "guess" it's at least 60% (and probably higher). Add in the the higher level programs that run the equivalent in their own rooms (and may augment with the academies) and so you have New Castle (CIA, Cobra, Contenders), Evansville (Cobra, Contenders, Mauer/Coughlin), and East Chicago (Region). I don't believe Ft. Wayne has the equivalent locally (although they certainly have some CIA and perhaps Region kids). Years ago at the youth level I recognized there were four type of kids: 1) beginner, 2) ISWA novice, 3) ISWA experienced, and 4) Academy. You can see before they even wrestle.

It's very annoying, particularly when they start blocking aisles and putting up tape. I certainly don't mind folks saving a couple of seats for friends, but it's currently ridiculous. It shouldn't be that hard to find a solution. And, I know from experience getting in the line first and waiting for hours on end is no guarantee. Get there first, wait in line patiently while others push in and around and past you, hustle to a section and then have someone quip "this section is already taken." Not that I listen...but it does raise my temperature a bit.

I think the top three are all pretty close. Measuring champs is one of a hundred different metrics and probably not the best.
