Bruins2013 reacted to awood2 in College Wrestling On HS Mats
I know the IHSAA is short on officials, but this holiday I saw NCAA officials on high school mats creating quite a stir (bluntly, a black-eye on our sport). I'm gonna state the obvious - there is a difference in college & high school rules. The NCAA officials taking high school matches need to understand the differences, why there is a difference, and they should agree to call the high school rules when on a high school mat! The number of coaches with misconduct warning, team points taken, athletes losing their minds in the bleachers b/c they are shocked in the difference between calls per match at the same tourney, and even parents being removed b/c they were so upset after a finals match that was called by a NCAA ref...
not calling stalling on the top man (stalemate instead) out-of-bounds reaction time (the need for it) potentially dangerous holds in high school we want coaches to approach us when they don't understand so they can be a better coach for this athletes in all situations Finally, the NCAA officials I watched do not apply for the IHSAA tournament series. Therefore, the coaches involved have no recourse, or voting power to rank these officials. We are putting our best wrestlers on the biggest stages over the holidays and our officials shouldn't try to upstage the athletes.

Bruins2013 got a reaction from BeAHammer in Al Smith Predictions?!
Agreed the jimtown boys will be ready I am sure. And I have never seen their big 3 get dominated .........ever !!! Good luck to all it’s going to be a great one.

Watts over Logan Heil 7-3 in July. Heil over Mendez 6-3...I wouldn't go with dominate. Mendez may win, but domination will shock me. I'm sure Coach Maggart has his crew ready.

Bruins2013 reacted to Caleb Spires in Al Smith Predictions?!
Call it Jimtown bias, but I find it a bit disrespectful to say Mendez is a sure pick that will dominate a returning state champion.
I also don’t see Conner Gimson being dominated, even by Rooks. He’s incredibly strong and very hard to score on.

Bruins2013 reacted to Wrestler281 in 182 State Rankings ???
True he did. BUT..... Carson not only beat several state champs this summer. He also beat some nationally ranked kids as well as finds himself in the national rankings. Elijah has already lost this year to Logan hart of Carmel. With all do respect... Carson has earned his number 1 spot. -JM182

Cmon mike never assume .......You probably know the saying about assuming it makes an ass out of you and me lol. Nope no assumptions On my part in my book if there are two studs which they both are and one pins the other he is ranked higher . But that’s why I don’t do the rankings and you do . Again no biggie I have never met either boy and have no dog in the fight .

I have watched him wrestle several times before I knew his name. I kept referring to him as “leg rider kid”, he is amazing on top. Great wrestler!

Bruins2013 reacted to MattM in Team State Vote-In Results
I don't really care which way the decision goes here. However, since you brought this up its worth pointing out that according to our Team State Points Value Categories, the Carroll's Sectional (Garrett) is just one point ahead of Peru's Sectional (Rochester) which is designed to give additional credit when coming out of a harder grouping of teams. And both Carroll and Peru are at the exact same Regional Point level. Plus, currently Peru's sectional and regional point value falls in what I would consider the middle range rather than the bottom/weakest. Although the calculations may not be perfect I trust they are pretty close based on all the data maligned has collected over the year. So while the numbers do place a slight advantage in Caroll's Sectional and Regional, the numbers would say its may not historically be as large of one as you seem to suggest.

Actually, we will have 11 kids who have been varsity starters over the last two years. Yes, I did put that in our team state notes/criteria.

I can’t speak about Southridge but I would guarantee a larger amount of returning Regional and Semi State Qualifiers if we were in the Peru Sectional/Regional two of the weakest in the State.

Bruins2013 reacted to nkraus in Team State Vote-In Results
Feels ridiculous to me. Garrett has overshot their expectations the last few years. Unseeded and placing 7th, with two injured starters two yeas ago. This season we were seeded 4th and placed 2nd losing 37-33 to Wawassee. So, when in vote in consideration you don't vote the returning runner up who has exceeded expectations the last two, three seasons actually...seems pretty illogical. The "we want new blood in the tournament" would be a pretty crappy argument.

Good to hear the information I guess we are even better off than I thought

I'd lean towards a pin for Schrock or at least bonus.
Schrock pinned and majored Weilbaker, and Weilbaker beat Reust 6-3
FYI, the News-Sentinel is dumb and should have had someone else be the Prep of the Year.
