  1. Greenwood hosts an 8-way with Indian Creek, Mooresville, Decatur Central, and Homestead in one pool. And Greenwood, Plainfield, New Palestine, and Greensburg in the other. Mooresville hosts Martinsville Tuesday as well
  2. I'm pretty sure it's meant to be Columbus East instead of Belleville East
  3. Mooresville hosts an 8-way this weekend with Frankton, Indian Creek, Plainfield, Tri-West, Greencastle, Cascade, and Washington in attendance along with the host Pioneers.
  4. You are totally right. Not really kid we want in there anyways, but it's always fun to talk about their ridiculous excuses. The ones who quit after doing it their whole lives are definitely concerning, but my experience has been those are few and far between and when they do arise it's often because they are stuck behind a guy who's better than them and are tires of being JV That's why we have to make it fun. Number one reason any kid quits is that they aren't having fun
  5. With the season coming up on Monday, and all of us coaches doing our last minute recruiting/retention drives, I was just curious as to what some of your favorite excuses for not wrestling are: I know we've all heard the singlet argument and the "I don't wanna lose weight" argument. Those are common, but I'm sure we've all ran into that clever kid who has a different reason. For instance, a student yesterday told me he was "Too strong and too fast to join wrestling. It would be a waste of my time." Any others out there?
  6. I'm on the fence about this one as well. Singlets don't bother me, but I do think it hinders with recruitment of athletes. Many of them are insecure and wearing singlets push a lot of them away from the sport. Curious as to what others' thoughts on the topic are.
  7. The advantage to the original posters rules would be that it wouldn't force the official to insert themselves into a match and make a decision on who is not being aggressive. We do have stalling, but why make an official decide if they are stalling? Push action and reward action. I like the suggestion, though not disagreeing with warsawwrestling in that we do have rules to push it. I just believe rewarding the attacking wrestler would help to alleviate the stalling more than punishing the stalling wrestler as it's not subjective for the official. The more objective the scoring, the better the sport is.
  8. We have 24 incoming Freshmen at Mooresville! Big things here just south of #thecounty
  9. I don't have exact results but I know Team Barbarians (All star team with some Yorktown kids) won it over Indiana Elite Blue (another all-star team based out of Jimtown) Oak Hill Gold and Carmel wrestled for 3rd and 4th, but I'm not sure who won.
  10. I agree. Was a long day, but got 6-7 matches in. Lots of mat time, very little down time.
  11. At Mooresville 113- Cox dec 6-0 over Chatterton 145- Ebeyer over King 5-2
  12. A couple of quick notes on your predictions: 1) At 120, Capps is out 2) Summers is at 138, not 132 3) Hammond is out. Only wrestled the last tourney of the year, not sure the reason he is out for the tourney. 4) Biddle is also out with a torn Pectoralis.
  13. I would be shocked if Perry Meridian doesn't get 14 out.
  14. A couple takeaways from the brackets (should be online soon): 106: Denny (MON) is the favorite but has stiff competition starting in the semis against Pitzulo of Franklin. The winner faces the winner of CG's Petro, Sego (IC) or Overton (GW). Add this to a mean 106 at Avon next weekend and you'll have a great start to your day! 113: Mosconi (IC) is undefeated but will face a stiff test with CG's Pruett or Geremia Brooks (WL) in the finals. Mooresville's Spencer Cox will also compete for placing in order to not win the wrestle Nick Weaver in Round 1 sweepstakes. 120: Artesian Keaton Fisher looks to be on a collision course with CG's Siddiqui for the final, but Mooersville's Ethan Wymer, Whiteland's Austin Denien, aand Plainfield's LJ Burdon all look to upset the favorites and stake their claim to a 1 or 2 for the Regional. 126: This final could be a thing of beauty with Plainfield's Isaac Gomez meeting up with Super Soph Tony Mosconi (IC). Franklin's Gavin Frost and a slew of other competitors will make the chase for 3/4 a thing of beauty. 132:By far, the most wide open weight in the tournament. Literally 7 of the 9 entered wrestlers could place or even win it. This will be a fun one to watch. 1 seed is CG's David Roth, but how's this for Parity?: He only beat Mooresville's Michael Craig 5-3 in a dual (Craig is the 6 seed). Craig beat IC's Weltich, who beat Whiteland's Jake Perry, who split with Craig, who split with Martinsville's unseeded Dexter Grubb. Throw in a GW Sophomore in Jake Schrader who is the 2 seed and three seed Maclennan from Franklin and you have yourselves a competition! 138: Trevor Reese of Franklin is the prohibitive favorite, but Tyler Summers, fellow Mid-State conference champ, returns from 132 to challenge for the title. Also in the mix will be CG's Anthony Williams, Martinsville's Cody Drake, IC's Brad Trietsch, and Mooresville's Wes Kost. 145: Logan Coyle and Shane Wilkerson look to be on a path to collide, but Whiteland's Matthias Ebeyer and Mooresville's Jake Hawkins will also be in contention. 152: Elijah Dunn is the overwhelming favorite here but he will have to face a slew of talented individuals to maintain his spot atop the Podium starting with Decatur's only returning Semi-State qualifier Jaylen Adkins or possibly Martinsville's Connor Dean, who have split matches this year. Monrovia's Ethan Stock and Franklin's Matt Ahlefeld are also contenders to move on. 160: The top 5 here are really solid: Cayden Whitaker, Burk Van Horn (co-favorites, have split matches), Mappes (State Qualifier last year), Tommy Copeland, and Eli Stock. That's less than 20 combined losses right there and they're all at the same weight! 170: Ethan Runyan narrowly edged the 1 seed from CG's Jonah Hays and Franklin's Jake Moore, who nabbed 2 and 3 respectively. The fourth spot will be up for grabs between Joseph Clevenger of IC, Andrew Sanders of Mooresville, or Zach Boles of Monrovia. The winner of the first round between Sanders and Clevenger would likely have the upper hand. 182: Another WIDE OPEN weight! Plainfield Junior Danny Reams, previously at 170 and before that 160, bumps up again to take the one seed at 182. He looks to be challenged by all kinds of wrestlers with the likes of IC's Grant Goforth, Franklin's Alez Zollman, Monrovia's Aaron Cravens, GW's AJ Montgomery, and CG's Rhett Mappes being the most likely contenders, albeit the pigtail matches at this weight ought to be downright dog fights as well and any one of them could wrestle right with Goforth or Reams as the 1 and 2 seeds. It'll be a doozy! 195: The number one seed here may be the biggest stone cold lock I've seen in the brackets with Monrovia's Garrison Lee. 2-6 all have chances to see him at some point with Franklin's Alvey being the 2 seed ready to square off with the winner of Plainfield's Kammerer or Mooresville's Comer (who fought a tight one at conference). Lee will see either Byrd (CG) or Ballard (GW) in the semi's. 220: For the third time this year, Artie Scroggs will likely face Bulldog McCubbins, with Scroggs having pinned the McCubbins with both of his losses on the year. CG's Heinrich's is a strong competitor as well and Franklin's Manny Cheam looks to be a VERY strong 4th wrestler (who could beat any of the top three). 285: Franklin's York is a very strong favorite over the 2 seed McCubbins of Monrovia and the 3 Lewis of CG. In the semi's he'll face the winner of Mooresville's Dane Smith and Plainfield's Ernesto Mariscal (Smith has won both previous meetings in OT).
  15. As I understand it from Coach Brown at John Marshall, there is no more IPSAC as Tech has joined the NCC and the conference is no more (Tech was the only one with more than 8 or 9 wrestlers the past few years and many teams had fewer than 6 spots filled). However, there is a tournament with most of the teams at Manual tomorrow. I doubt it is on track (I couldn't find it). It stinks because the only way I really see how these kids (many of whom I coached as Freshman and Sophomores or in MS) are doing is through the City link and the IPSAC link. Now I'll have to wait until Sectionals to see how the seasons turned out.
  16. We wrestled him this week, by far the fastest HWT I have seen. I think he can beat any and all of them. All depends on the match-ups
  17. 106: Overton GW over Reams Pl 113: Brooks? WL over Cox Mooresville 120: Fisher Martinsville over Burdon Pl 126: Gomez Pl over GW (name escapes me) 132: Summers PL over GW (another name I don't know) 138: Reese Franklin over Kost Mooresville 145: Wilkerson Franklin over Ebeyer WL 152: Adkins DC over Dean Martinsville 160: Whitaker Martinsville over Van Horn FR 170: Runyon Martinsville over Moore FR 182: ? 195: ? 220: Scroggs Martinsville over Cheam FR 285: York FR over Smith Mooresville I know 195 was FR vs the GW wrestler, didn't see the match I honestly have no idea who won at 182...was busy coaching during it
  18. Final team results were only off a little 1. Franklin 2. Greenwood (did not see that coming, will be honest) 3. Plainfield 4. Mooresville 5. Martinsville 6. Whiteland 7. Decatur Central
  19. Plainfield and Mooresville did wrestle twice Scores are correct
  20. Mid State is this weekend at Mooresville Brackets are not online--it's not on track. A few key match-ups: 106: Logan Reams PL and Keegan Overton GW Both solid grapplers Overton beat Streeter 10-1 and has been at 113 all year. Ought to be a good one if Overton can get by Franklin's Pitzulo, also a solid wrestler 113: The Whiteland kid comes in as 17-1 as a relative unknown and is seeded opposite two other strong wrestlers in Plainfield's Paterniti (beat Weaver of BBurg) and Cox of Mooresville (23-8) 120: Keaton Fisher ought to be the favorite, but Plainfield's LJ Burdon could challenge. 126: Speaking of solid Quaker Light weights, Senior Isaac Gomez is the favorite here. The battle will be for second. 132: Plainfield again has a solid Senior in Tyler Summers with solid challengers coming from Franklin, Greenwood, and Mooresville. This ought to be one of the most wide open weights. 138: Top seeded Trevor Reese is in a class of his own. Pioneer Senior Wes Kost is the likely championship opponent. 145: Another Grizzly Cub stud, Shane Wilkerson, is the favorite and will face either Whiteland's Mathias Ebeyer or Mooresville's Jake Hawkins in the final. 152: Martinsville has Conner Dean, Decatur has Jalen Adkins. Who wins? I guess we'll see 160: By far best weight of day with Franklin's Van Horn and Martinsville's Cayden Whitaker looking to square off in the finals. Whiteland's Tommy Copeland may have something to say about it as the 3 seed though. 170: Another Artie will be the top seed in Ethan Runyon. He ought to see either Plainfield's Ryan Reams or Franklin's Jake Moore. Probably the deepest class in the tournament. 182: This one is totally up in the air. I can't even recall who the top seeds are here. I do know Greenwood has a pretty good kid and despite Whiteland missing state qualifier Ryan "the Hammer" Hammonds at this weight, his replacement Ryan Hahn is no slouch either. 195: Another wide open weight. I know that Plainfield's Cody Kammerer is the top seed but the field is pretty competitive. Ought to be exciting from start to finish. 220: Clayton Scroggs is a solid one seed and I've been impressed by Franklin's Cheam this season. Could be a good title match. 285: Quinn York will look to bring home his HWT belt but will have to beat Plainfield's Mariscal in the semi's and either Whiteland's Lily or Mooresville's Smith in the final. Team race could have been close this year if anyone had enough horses to challenge the Grizzly Cubs. Not sure this is the year though. 1. Franklin (at least 3 champs and all will place) 2. Plainfield (probably 2 champs, several others in 3rd or 4th) 3. Martinsville (3-4 champs will help fill the holes in their line-up) 4-6 in no particular order Greenwood, Mooresville, Whiteland 7 Decatur Central
