I attended a small school and had to travel 1-2 hours one way for off season work. I know there are people who do it and families that support it, but not all do. When you can drive 30 minutes around the loop in Indy to find a place to workout, you get more kids there. I love the small school story beating up on big schools, but it’s easy to see the smaller schools from Ft. Wayne have a hard time competing with the big schools.

The problem FWSS has is the number of small schools that go through there. There are some tough small schools that come out of Ft. Wayne, but they have a hard time competing with the large schools of the other three semi-states.

During the regular season I wasn’t too bad, but when tournament time came, I felt it from the first round of sectionals until we were done. My first trip to state as a coach, my heavyweight finished runner up…He made a remarkable run that not many people expected. I remember after the match he came over and apologized for not winning. I hugged him and told him how proud I was and how proud our community was of him. We preached the 4 Ds. Desire, Discipline, Dedication, and Determination. We told the wrestlers almost every practice, that nobody would care if they knew how to do a double leg, or how run a cradle. It was more important to take those core values and use them as an employee, a husband, and a father. I still get nerves watching in the stands as a fan now. I know the hard work these men and women have put in every day, but in the end, they will all be better off for wrestling.

Penola wrestles 197 & has 3 years left. Is there speculation that Penola might go up to HWY?
With the heavyweights in the BigTen, no way he moves up.

Connersville had a 215lb qualifier in 98, he didn't place though
My reply meant that it was Shafer’s first trip to the bank, not Connersvilles

Evan Shafer of Connersville is a first time qualifier and placer

Where did he come from? He's a junior who came into state at 13 wins and 0 losses. He's had three solid wins against Watts, Munoz, and Erb. He's ranked 8th. He is my pick for the most suspiring wrestler to make it to the finals.
I think you mean Shafer. He hasn’t wrestled Erb. Definitely a specimen that’s for sure

Boarman looked impressive, racking up 15 points in the first.

Quad feed just went down for me.
I can’t watch the quad view so I have all four mats pulled up on different tabs and it is working for me.

know it would open a huge can of worms but I wish the IHSAA would consider some type of waiver for athletes on teams with limited rosters to continue a limited (1-2 times a week) amount of club practices during HS season for dedicated athletes that are highly committed but limited due to small school, small team syndrome. Something, anything, to be able to have a quality partner or in some cases, just simply having a partner at all to help keep the growth of the athlete moving in a positive direction.
I believe in Ohio, once the state tournament begins, schools are allowed to practice together so smaller teams with fewer individuals can find better practice partners. I don’t see why Indiana couldn’t do something similar.

Glad Tuttle pulled out the win. I think the slam call was terrible…Gonzalez was trying to wrestler after he had been returned. Was very impressed with the Delta boys, LeCount has them looking tough. Really enjoyed the Sprague/Tharpe match too…tomorrow is going to be fun!
