  1. Rather bizzare discussion and interesting graphic. I have wonder how they are related.
  2. Hey, if it is more mat wrestling (and less takedown and cut) that you want, what about a 2 point escape? Ha ha
  3. Congratulations to the Hoosier Heritage Conference for their 4 individual state titles ... Curtis, White, Laughlin, and Gray ... plus another runner-up ... Hunt. Also, congratulations to Delaware County putting 5 into the finals ... Curtis, Hunt, Laughlin, Gray, and Maddox. #TheOtherCounty
  4. Appropriately, Merriam-Webster also defines lock as "a hold in wrestling secured on one part of the body." That said, if we are going with Vito's initial definition, I would go with Braydon Lee, Joe Lee, and Parris. I probably wouldn't give the lock status to a 3rd ranked wrestler.
  5. Although perhaps unlikely, I think theoretically it's possible. Consider just one weight class for example. If one stacked regional has 6 guys ranked in that weight class, and the other three regionals feeding into the same semi-state have none, then the most ranked guys advancing to semi-state would be just 4.
  6. I think it has been verified that the coach did not provide all the proper information, including weigh-in information, at least at the seedings meeting.
  7. My question is, if the coach didn't have all the weigh-in info with him, how could he show that all his wrestlers were eligible for the weight classes he entered them in? If that is the case, how are they eligible at all? This is just a question as I don't know how all the seeding stuff goes.
  8. Yes, in the 152 class, the kid that was originally seeded #2 got bumped up to #1. He now has to wrestle the kid from LC that was originally #1. So that kid went from #2 to effectively unseeded.
  9. Those aren't the original brackets. For example, I saw an earlier set of brackets where Steele of LC was seeded first at 152. I was told 2nd hand that the LC coach didn't turn in some kind of weigh-in(?) paper work making the LC wrestlers ineligible for seeding. Therefore, the LC seeds were taken away. Again, that is just 2nd hand information, so take it as such.
  10. Thank you for posting. I find this all very interesting. I'm always impressed with what EMD accomplishes athletically with their size of school ... not only in wrestling. That said, I think you missed Mr. Chastain's point.
  11. You make some very fine points, Y2. There is a very good reason why many private schools excel both academically and athletically.
  12. I think attacking the integrity of the IHSWCA board is rather hypocritical coming right after your "yellow journalistic" post. I guess Captain Obvious can't help himself occasionally.
  13. XCARD, I did the same thing Saturday night but still only got 13 out of 14 right. I guess I just had trouble believing that Ayersman really pulled that match out like that.
  14. Quite possible ... and I think you could give part of the credit for that to Alex. Having an older brother like that must be a great blessing.
  15. I'm not exactly sure what jorts are, but that probably would have been a sight to behold.
  16. Well, I tried to give you some grins, but the emoticons don't seem to be working for me. Congratulations on the success of both teams on the season and good luck to EMD this weekend.
  17. I'm not saying that I'm against girls wrestling, but I don't think there is any doubt that wrestling a girl is not exactly the same thing as wrestling a boy ... or this probably wouldn't be an issue. I for one have never felt any sexual feelings when I have had physical contact with a male, but there have at times been some stirring of the hormones when I have had physical conact with females ... even if there was no hanky panky going on. No, there is definitely a difference. That said, we didn't have organized wrestling for kids when I was young although we did do a lot of unorganized wrestling in the neighborhood. My sisters sometimes participated in the action, and usually won. I can honestly say that at no time did I feel any difference when I wrestled my sisters vs. when I wrestled some other kid ... but I'm not sure all the other guys felt the same way.
  18. Say something positive perhaps? ;D
  19. I think Tsirtsis, Molloy, Reese, or Welch would all be great choices. I might lean towards Reese if I had to make a choice based on the 4 early pin factor. Welch's 4 shutouts were impressive ... but that finals match was painfully lacking in action. Did the refs not realize there was an awful amount of stalling going on? Is there a rule that you can't call stalling in the finals? ???
  20. Congratulations to Mason and to the whole Todd family, Coach Doud ... and Mr. Mitchell. I know you are all proud.
  21. I was able to talk my wife into going to the state finals this year for the first time in a few years. I think she really enjoyed the wrestling, the competition, and the atmosphere. There was one wrestler in particular that she was most interested in watching and he won his weight class, so she was excited by that. My son had to travel to Iowa and back yesterday on business so he was unable to attend. So at lunch today we were giving him the low down. I talked about the key moves and the ebb and flow of the match, etc. When my wife had a chance to get her 2 cents in, she talked about how nice the coaches were dressed, 1st in sharp business casual attire and then in dapper dress suits in the finals. She expressed how proud she was at how well these coaches represented their school, both with their dress and with their demeanor. Being there solely to watch wrestling, I guess I didn't pay much attention to the clothes the coaches wore, but it sure made an impression on my wife. So I'm thinking that perhaps Y2 and others may have a point about the impression on casual fans.
  22. Although I thought there should have been a few more stalling calls, I thought the referees did a good job overall. I guess I didn't particularly like the theactrics of one referee though. I guess I think the wrestling is good enough to enjoy without a referee having to do a side show to entertain us.
  23. Yes, but the campbell vs. julien match was left out at 119. (119 at NC has 3 such matches.)
