    The GOATs

From my high school era (2007-2011), it would be Andrew Howe or Jason Tsirtsis.

    The GOATs

blueandgold can correct me if I am wrong, but I believe he is talking GOATs of Indiana HS wrestling without consideration of other accomplishments. If that is what we are talking then IMO you have to go with one of the undefeated 4-time champs. Lance Ellis Alex Tsirtsis Chad Red It is fitting that the title of this topic is The GOATs and not The GOAT. You simply can't do better than 4-time undefeated in your career. Once you start talking... He dominated his competition He had the highest pin percentage His style was electrifying His impact on the sport You are merely splitting hairs. Lance Ellis showed everyone what is possible with hard work & dedication. Now individuals specializing in one sport from a relatively early age has proven that the old adage of hard work & dedication is truly the key to success. It is not a coincedence that Ellis was the only 4-time champ for approximately the first 30 years of the modern era of the tournament (sectional, regional, SS, State). And now we have seen another 6 wrestlers do it in the last 20 years. My time periods are only approximate, but they are close.

  4. It was Coach Rhodes, but Lance Ellis was a thing of beauty. 177-0. 151 pins. The best lateral of all time. Could hit it from his back if had to. Had the pleasure of wrestling behind him my freshmen year at 119. Mean as hell. Confident as hell. Never seen Market Square so electric, even Jordan's retirement game return (first game vs Pacers @ MSA) or all the Knicks - Pacers battles. When Lance beat Scott Wilson under the lights his senior year, the entire arena was on their feet with his patented lateral for the fall after being down. Core memory.

    Super 32

Costello had an unfair advantage due to having three coaches in the corner for his matches. I guess Hobart is now becoming the Penn of da region.

  8. I have many thoughts on this subject. I think specialization is fine once HS starts for those that are truly elite, and by that I mean those that have a realistic chance to go to college in their chosen sport. the vast majority of HS athletes will end their careers when HS ends. So why not do as many different things as you can? Many smaller schools needs these athletes to field teams in other sports. Anecdotally, my senior year we had 4 kids that were wrestlers only. Two were state qualifiers (one was a runner up) and the other 2. They were 103, 1112, 125 and 135. Everybody else at least played football. There were a couple of us that played baseball as well. I actually lettered in 4 sports and had walk on opportunities at very low level D1 schools in 2 of those sports. Could I have specialized in my favorite sport (baseball) and gotten a scholarship? Maybe. But then I would have missed out on being a state placer in wrestling and being on a football team that was one win away from playing for a state title. So for me, it should always be about what the kid wants. If he wants to specialize once he gets to HS, so be it. But there is nothing wrong with parents exposing their young athletes to different sports. I can see cases where a kid may specialize at a young age and then when they get to HS they can experience burn out, etc.

  9. Darrick has been consistent since his first coaching appearance when he cornered Alex Dolly. The list goes on, Hinton, Harper, Beck, Lentz, Sanderfur, Macri, Thomas, Morin, Schultz, Forte, Binion, Logan, Wiesjahn, etc..... And the list goes on, BROWNSBURG. Darrick would probably disagree but his only down years were the first years it took for Mishawaka and Brownsburg teams to buy into what he was selling. 24 years of collecting titles!
