An interesting idea

Recommended Posts

Alright, so I have been thinking, I feel like this years state tournament we have been seeing some pretty outrageous calls! Now in the heat of some of these matches we all know that sometimes it feels like if there has been a negative interaction between coach and official that maybe that coach may not get the totally unbiased call in a close situation. So here is my proposal.

starting at the semi state level, since every semi state has A flo cast video stream now, each team will be allowed 1 brick per wrestler for the entire tournament. Now instead of approaching the table to ask the official a question, you just throw a brick. In this event, just like freestyle, another official who has no involvement in that match will then review the scoring sequence in question and will then score that sequence as he thinks it should be called.

Now I know what you all are thinking, well this would slow down the tournament a lot because us crazy coaches will be brick crazy all day getting matches reviewed. So here’s my solution for this, if the official does in fact score the sequence differently, then that coach will get his brick for that wrestler returned to him, the wrestles will be set in the proper position to restart the match and wrestling will resume. But if the official reviewing the video decides that he agrees with the mat official then that coach will lose that brick for that particular wrestler for the remainder of the day and the opposing wrestler will be awarded a point and wrestling will resume.

This will keep coaches from recklessly asking for video reviews, or in the case we have now, keep them from going to the table every 20 seconds to question a call.

thoughts?

inunderstand that this will potentially add some time to an event, but I think we can all agree that an extra hour added to an event is certainly worth making sure that the kids are getting the best and most correct calls possible during the biggest parts of the state series!

So, I went back again and watched my son's match in the ECC 150 final just now.   At time stamp 7:42, my son's knee was pulled up high by Harper.  At 7:44, my son secures the takedown, at 7:45 potentially dangerous is called.  Sorry, don't say my sons safety is priority if you let what you considered a dangerous situation continue for three seconds.  What makes it worse is you can see the ref actually see the takedown and then turn his eyes to my son's knee. What makes it doubly worse is two referees ***duck duck goose***ed that up.  I understand if this post needs to be removed.  I can't post the screenshot because I have too many photos and don't know how to remove them.

If each SS location as the technology for officials to instantly review mat side then this isn't a bad idea. But I feel a brick per wrestler is too many. Allow one brick per 3 wrestlers.

Thus if a school has 1-3 wrestlers the coach gets 1 brick, 4-6 wrestlers gets 2 bricks, 7-9 wrestlers gets 3 bricks, 10-12 gets 4 bricks & 13-14 gets 5 bricks. A lost challenge is a lost brick. You can use multiple bricks on the same wrestler, but once you are out of bricks you are out of challenges. Approaching the table is misconduct.
