Flo wrestling mentioned Indiana as like a “tier 2” in terms of toughest state tournaments, so, would we consider guys like Mendez and Howe and tsirtsis as like the “tier 1 goats” and these guys like Vinny and Delaney as like the upper tier 2 goats?

I felt like Jason wrestled a much slower pace and more defensive style when he go to college, I remember him being pretty fun to watch in highschool. But pretty boring in college. Still one of the greats! Mendez is a point scoring machine!!

Stood in the corner this past weekend at ISWA for one of our 7 year old club kids. The kid is pretty talented! Well this kid has apparently been doing some private lessons for quite some time with an older coach (who is not affiliated with our club) while standing in the corner with this guy, I heard him say things to this 7 year old, after losing a match that he was winning, like, “how the hell are you gonna turn around and blow it for us like that, that’s embarrassing” as well as getting just overly angry at the kid mid match for things like giving up a take down or an escape etc. this kid has been having issues controlling his emotions during matches like this and I finally had to sit the mom down and tell her that the reason he is struggling with controlling his emotions is because of this other coach, if the adult can’t control his emotions and makes him feel overwhelmed then the kid will never learn to control them either.

I’ve had Coach Frepan coach one of my elementary travel dual teams before, and I will say, I have never received more compliments from parents about a coach of any of the teams I have taken places than I have about him. A guy who truly loves the sport, and is 100% all about the kids! Hands down one of the best dudes I know and I’m proud to be able to have worked with him!

Soooo to the people who say that they are boring, don’t score points etc. do you want to explain why center grove scored the most total match points as a team? Or are you guys not ready to have that conversation yet?

Alright, so I have been thinking, I feel like this years state tournament we have been seeing some pretty outrageous calls! Now in the heat of some of these matches we all know that sometimes it feels like if there has been a negative interaction between coach and official that maybe that coach may not get the totally unbiased call in a close situation. So here is my proposal. starting at the semi state level, since every semi state has A flo cast video stream now, each team will be allowed 1 brick per wrestler for the entire tournament. Now instead of approaching the table to ask the official a question, you just throw a brick. In this event, just like freestyle, another official who has no involvement in that match will then review the scoring sequence in question and will then score that sequence as he thinks it should be called. Now I know what you all are thinking, well this would slow down the tournament a lot because us crazy coaches will be brick crazy all day getting matches reviewed. So here’s my solution for this, if the official does in fact score the sequence differently, then that coach will get his brick for that wrestler returned to him, the wrestles will be set in the proper position to restart the match and wrestling will resume. But if the official reviewing the video decides that he agrees with the mat official then that coach will lose that brick for that particular wrestler for the remainder of the day and the opposing wrestler will be awarded a point and wrestling will resume. This will keep coaches from recklessly asking for video reviews, or in the case we have now, keep them from going to the table every 20 seconds to question a call. thoughts? inunderstand that this will potentially add some time to an event, but I think we can all agree that an extra hour added to an event is certainly worth making sure that the kids are getting the best and most correct calls possible during the biggest parts of the state series!

Well unfortunately, he wouldn’t be able to officiate his kids matches. Did you ever think that if officials would get some calls correct there wouldn’t be any questioning. His job as a coach is to fight for his wrestlers, and to fight to get calls for his guys. I saw so many egregious calls today. It was embarrassing.

More kids would probably wrestle Greco if more coaches actually supported and promoted Greco. It’s pretty insane that I’ve heard high level coaches in Indiana say “Greco isn’t real wrestling”.

Royce Deckard (Duce) was a sectional and regional champion that year. You must not be remembering that match too clearly because he cut Elpers in the third then took him down and rode him out for 1:10 to win a state title. Don’t be salty at him because the other guy didn’t know how to get off bottom

Even if numbers would have double in 48 hours, you would have nothing close to what the event was last time it was hosted at CG over 800 total kids out by 5pm that’s magic . With the imbalance of the weights at each qualifier my estimated number of total participants was somewhere in the ballpark of 400 total wrestlers to qualify for state. IF IT AINT BROKE DONT FIX IT
