Jayruss
Saw Brendan Kelley is going to U of I which is a great school with a great wrestling program, but was wondering if he had any D1 offers? If not then that's crazy. I don't know why IU doesn't put more effort into recruiting our state champs?
SWINfan
I think DJ Smith is going there as well and have wondered the same. Are these two not DI caliber wrestlers? I'll admit my knowledge of college wrestling beyond what I can watch on the BTN is limited.
BeastMode#31
Great catches for UINDY. Coach Warthan has got the Hounds rolling with these two recruits and Crume last year. Congrats to Kelley on a great season.
Y2CJ41
Not all Indiana state champions are DI Big 10 wrestlers like many think they are. In reality only a few are really Big 1o material, yet many think they are. Big props to Indy and these kids for going DII. They will see lots of great competition and do very well at the DII level. I don't think that Kelley is a potential B10 champ, but he could definitely wrestle at the D1 level if that was his ***NO NO NO***ion. UIndy is a great school not far from home with great academics and the chance to be an all-american or national champ. I'm sure those things played into his decision. I think a 113 like DJ Smith is unfortunately less of a D1 prospect unless he's one of the best couple guys in the country and schools know he's cut down some to be there. formerchamp
Not everyone wants to wrestle d1, I think he choose u of indy for academic reasons.
rebels4life
Coach Warthan is great man, and treats these kids like his own. He has recruited some studs the last few years. UIndy is great fit for these kids. If you follow D2 wrestling, most kids start out D1, but after a year of wrestling D1, transfer into a programs in likes of NAIA, D2, D3. On a side not: UIndy wrestling team is among the top 5 programs in the classroom. Coach Warhtam won a National Championship few years ago with above team G.P.A. avg 3.50.
