So it looks like they go into the "green/blue" pool with the other 2 seventh place teams.  Very tough draw, considering they wrestled both minnesota and iowa well.  They have no chance to prove that they're better than the two teams that got beat pretty easily by Michigan in other side of the bracket.  Not only do they only get 2 preliminary pool matches, they'll only get 2 more placement pool matches (as opposed to 4 if they'd been in any other placement pool), against two teams that could potentially be awful.  Am I wrong on this?

Basically correct (Green/Yellow Pool), and while it wasn't the worst pool draw possible where we fell in the pool didn't help our situation any.  I'd say we would beat Colorado in our pool, but the set up of the consolation bracket gave them the bye to advance father in the same round we fell to Minnesota. A win over Colorado would have placed us in the next pool up and gave us a full day of matches, but that obviously not going to happen. The lack of additional teams does makes the lowest consolation pool a very small one.  Not sure if the set up of the tournament would allow the opportunity for an exhibition match against another team from a different pool or not.  Maybe while the other teams are wrestling for a true second place in their pools today for the final something can be arranged exhibition wise (I'm not sure).  A few of our guys have done decently well so far individually.  Hopefully a few will also get the chance to get in some additional mat time in Freestyle too.

Indiana clobbers Georgia Blue in its first Green Pool match.  They shouldn't have a problem with the other match against South Carolina either, since S. Carolina lost already to Georgia Blue and since they forfeit 4 weights.

Looking through pool results from yesterday, it's clear Indiana got a very bad draw to end up in the 25th out of 27th position they're in.  With that said, they were probably about the 20th best team, based on comparing scores across pools.  Other states clearly brought some of their top athletes, while we struggled some to fill out our roster, ending up with a solid but not elite group.

I'd agree that we would have been very competitive in the next consolation pool above us, but unfortunately we ended up with a little bad luck. It would be nice to have an exhibition bout against some of those teams, but its understandable if that couldnt happen since they have had eight meets already. Four matches on the trip just isn't normal and I'm sure our guys are still ready for some more competion.  Hopefully our Freestyle team can start te day off well tomorrow and a few of these Greco guys can get a chance at some Freestyle mat time.

Our scores against 2 common opponents in the preliminary pool sum up to be identical to Colorado, who will wrestle for 19th and 20th--about what we thought.

That was a big win for Sage Coy....Pinning Sean Russell from Georgia...Russell is ranked anywhere from #1-5 nationally @113...

It really sucks that he only got to wrestle 2 matches cause the other 2 were forfeits..

Way to go Sage

Freestyle starts up at 10 today against Utah, which has proven to be a tough team already in Greco.  Our bracketing  bad luck almost struck again by being in maybe the deepest pool and the the only pool of 9 teams.  Luckily we drew into a bracket spot that won't put us out in the 9th spot and should get a full pool on day two regardless of our finish.  However, one team from our pool will finish 9th and it looks like wont have a pool to wrestle in tomorrow.  As well, we hopefully can get back on themat.tv coverage at some point today.

Yeah, Utah was 4th in Greco out of 27 teams.  We can assume they, along with other states, have a similar lineup for freestyle.  If we lose to Utah, we'll most likely have New York (15th in Greco), or Minnesota Blue (19th...we lost to them 44-24 in preliminary pool action).  A reminder that we finished 25th of 27 yesterday, but had a very unlucky draw that probably slotted us 4 or 5 slots below where we should have been, based on comparing scores across brackets.  We've got a legitimate shot against New York or Minnesota Blue, which would put us at least in a pool with teams 17 to 24 out of 33.  No matter what, we get a full slate of at least 3 matches today and 4 tomorrow, as MattM said.

Illinois keeps cruising in events like this, by the way, winning the title yesterday over a very strong Michigan team.

We lost 39-28 to New York and we're just finishing up a strong win against North Carolina for 7th in our preliminary pool.  We'll be in the pool of teams in the 25th to 32nd range tomorrow.

Looks like they ended up adding Minnisota Blue (the team eliminated from pool competition) in as an extra team in the lowest consolation pool. That was nice of them to get that team some additional matches.  However, it does beg the question of why in Greco the last two pools were not evenly distributed so our team could have gotten a few more matches in.  We have a few Greco guys who who have not been put in Freestyle (yet).  So at this point they only got 4 matches in on the trip and one of those may even have been a FF.  Hate to say it but experiances like that do make some people question attending the trip, especially when Disney Duals was an option too.  The organizers need to realize (and maybe they did with Minnisota today) that after you get past the championship and main consolation pool it's basically just mat time mixed in with a little team Pride anyway. Thus the organizers should look into setting up a even bracket system for the lower two pools  to get in some extra matches.  If they did those guys who got 4 matches in probably could have got 6 instead.

I agree MattM. I sent my son (Jordan Lile 145) and thought the cost of the trip was fair seeing that he was going to get 6 to 8 matches, now I will admit there is a little frustration after only getting 4. We chose Junior Duals over Fargo because the cost and amount of possible matches. I just wish he could have had more Greco matches. In the end I am truly appreciative of all the efforts by the coaches and all involved. I know Jordan is proud to represent Indiana and I am proud of him and all the other wrestlers who stepped up and represented Indiana as well.

I can't agree more. My son (Matthew Ruddick 152) got the 4 greco matches as state champion and sets watching 2 wrestlers he beat at freestyle state get 12 matches and 9 matches. Matthew finished 2nd at 152 freestyle state and sent in papers to do both. This is not fair and someone needs to get the qualification criteria set straight or you (the ISWA) will be loosing more wrestlers to the Disney Duels, were we will be next year.
