Y2CJ41
This may not support anyone's theory of liking the new weight classes as we had an increase in 64 forfeits this year. 2011 2012 Weight FFs Perc Weight FFs Perc 103 - 85 27.24% 106 - 84 26.92% 112 - 68 21.79% 113 - 73 23.40% 119 - 57 18.27% 120 - 50 16.03% 125 - 43 13.78% 126 - 49 15.71% 130 - 46 14.74% 132 - 26 8.33% 135 - 35 11.22% 138 - 28 8.97% 140 - 35 11.22% 145 - 25 8.01% 145 - 32 10.26% 152 - 27 8.65% 152 - 33 10.58% 160 - 33 10.58% 160 - 32 10.26% 170 - 46 14.74% 171 - 32 10.26% 182 - 50 16.03% 189 - 33 10.58% 195 - 61 19.55% 215 - 47 15.06% 220- 64 20.51% 285 - 39 12.50% 285 - 65 20.83% Total- 617 14.13% Total- 681 15.59% Here is the link to the data from the past two years. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0At9kk8BWi5ZUdFVpd09mUU12S2ozTW1JSmRxYUMxa2c
Smooth34
The bulk of those came from the top 2 weight classes which probably happens either way.
maligned
The bulk of those came from the top 2 weight classes which probably happens either way. That's not necessarily true. Before, there were enough bodies in the right range to fill the heavier weight classes. For example, you just had to have 1 available body that weighed at least 190 to fill 285 and 1 body available that weighed at least 172 to fill 215. Now, there are 5 "big guy" weights that clearly Indiana had a very difficult time filling. Meanwhile, the percent distribution of forfeits in the middle weights was far down. The argument for the new weight classes was that, yes, there may be more year-round "dedicated" wrestlers in the middle weights, but that there would be enough in-season kids at the upper weights to make forfeits come down overall. Clearly that didn't happen in Indiana. Though I changed my opinion to preferring the old weight classes a few months ago, I'm still surprised at how high these numbers are. We'll see what happened in other states.
1oldwrestler
From 170 on up that is a huge increase over last year. I spoke with Y2 at Warrent Central this past weekend and I think he had a valid point in that coaches were not quite up to juggling their lineups to maximize the additional weight in the upper weights but even so, this number is dramatic and maybe the casual wrestler/football player shouldn't be catered to and a return to the old weights is warranted. BTaylor
Can someone make a poll on what COACHES would like to see on this website. (1) Keep the weight classes the way they are now or (2) change them back to the old weight classes. I know there are a lot of other ideas that have been thrown out there but if these are the only two, what would everyone vote for? I don't know how or I would do it. julio
Kids not coming out for the sport could be another factor, not just the weight class changes. Let's no blame it all on 1 factor.
Short Jay
BTaylor, The polling of those questions has already taken place. The IHSWCA polled the coaches at the sectional meetings. I haven't seen results yet. Can anyone with information post the results?
