MIDDLE SCHOOL QUESTIONS

Recommended Posts

a few questions for those that are, or did, wrestle middle school this year.

1) How many matches does each wrestler usually get?

2)How many tourneys do you usually attend?

3)How many kids does your school have out?

4)What grade are they first allowed to compete for middle school?

5)How do you school your dual meets?

Ours scores every kid, and we usually have more kids, so our 2nd or 3rd string kid is wrestling the same kid that already beat out #1 kid. Seems silly to me.

Any input?

1)  I think our kids got between 15-18 matches depending on forfeits, advancement in tournaments, etc.

2 ) We wrestled 2 tournaments and 12 duals (a few got snowed out).

3) We started off with 40+ kids, but ended the season in the high 20's or low 30's after grades, kids quitting, etc.

4) Grades 6-8

5) Our dual meets were scored just like a regular varsity match.  Any extra "JV" matches weren't figured into the team score.

Our team was the about the same as the last poster. We had 13 duels and 4 tournaments. Each kid had anywhere from 15-22 matches. We had 6-8 graders on the team and had 20 kids that stayed in the program. Our duels were scored just like a high school duel and we only used our A team scores.

1. 12-17 depending on how they do in the tournaments.

2. We have 2 tournaments, 1 quad, and 8 regular duals scheduled each year.  Some years we pick up a dual or two if we can.

3. This year we had 38.  It has been climbing the last 4 years.

4. The school is 6-8, so 6th graders are allowed to wrestle.

5. Score only the varsity wrestlers.  Do not keep a team score for the reserve matches.

1- Anywhere between 20-30 matches.....depending on the size of school we wrestled.

2- 3 ind tourney's and 1 super dual team tourney

3- between 20-25 kids for a Class A sized high school

4- 6th graders through 8th graders

5- We match up as many kids as we can, one time through....starting with the lightest kid to the heaviest kid, we score the first round of matches as the team score...

then we match up all ot the rest of the kids we missed and then match up as many as the official will allow us too! lol sometimes there are 30+ matches in a night!

We only score the first round of matches.....it wouldn't be fare to score all of them....we are one of the bigger teams in our area, so when another school has a kid wrestling 3 times in one night, only his first match counts as the team score.

1) 15-30 depending on schools we wrestled and if a varsity or JV wrestler

2) two invitationals and two conference tournaments

3) 30-40 varies year to year

4) 6th grade

5) Only the varsity matches are scored towards the team total. One thing I don't care for is, in our conference forfeits do not count towards the team score. Some schools we wrestle in conference only wrestle their best wrestlers against us to try and get the team win. Our team wrestles that weight class if we have a wrestler at that weight.
