cbarnett
Now is the time to contact the IHSAA if you are considering becoming a licensed IHSAA official for next season. There are two times during the season that you can actually take the IHSAA test, March or September. If you plan to apply for the March 2 test date, you must apply to the IHSAA no later than February 9. Rule books will be mailed to you immediately upon receipt of your application. If you plan on applying for the September 29 test date, you must apply no later than September 3. Rule books will be mailed in early September. Taking the test early gives you several advantages: 1. Allows you to become licensed sooner, thus taking contracts for the fall season sooner. 2. Gives you the opportunity to join an official's association sooner 3. Gives you more time to contact your local schools and let them know you are licensed/available 4. In the rare event you don't pass the test, it gives you a chance to take it again in the same year. Remember, you do not have to be licensed to officiate middle school events or elementary events, and this is a great venue to work and gain experience, especially for those of you who are unsure as to whether or not you actually want to proceed to the high school level. It's a perfect part-time job... especially for a college student. It's a 100 question multiple choice test that is open book, and you are allowed ample time to complete the examination. Also keep in mind that nearly all officials begin at lower levels and work their way up, so you will not be thrust into the high profile varsity contest with 3000 screaming fans in the stands. If you like the sport and are physically able, becoming an official is a great hobby that pays well, gets you in the door for free, and gives you the best seat in the house! titan155
what is the 2009 membership for wrestling officials this year in Indiana? most of the guys i've seen both at the middle school and high school levels are doing a pretty good job. also, do you have the say on where you go to work after passing the test or are you given a region of the state to make contacts from? jlittlejohn
You operate as an independent contractor so it is up to you to make contacts and to pursue openings.
