  2. I always looked at All-State as a way to recognize outstanding individual performances within the parameters of a team sport. For individual sports however I figured it was basically implied that the state medalists would basically be the same as a All-State designation.

  4. It isn’t semantics. Every sport has all state defined except wrestling. Football- Junior All-State and Senior All-State. Voted by coaches XC- top 25 at state tennis- voted by coaches 1st 2nd and HM volleyball- voted by coaches North and South classed soccer- voted by coaches 1st 2nd 3rd and HM Basketball- voted by coaches Supreme 15, large school small school and HM swimming- top 8 baseball- voted by coaches anywhere between 10-15 by class softball- voted by coaches 1st 2nd and 3rd track- top 9 golf- average score throughout the year don’t know how many (got this information from an old golf coach)
  5. I mean, if you want to get into semantics just call the top 8 placers All State.
  6. I was talking to the athletic department at my school about All-State and I couldn't find anything on the Coaches Association about All-State except Academic All-State. Does wrestling have All-State? What is the Criteria? If we don't have All-State why not? The most comparable sports in the IHSAA are track and swimming. Track is Top 9 are considered All-State and Swimming is Top 8. Talking to some other coaches I heard it was state champions but there is no official document. Can someone in the Wrestling Coaches Association or coach know what is All-State in wrestling?
  7. Some of my earliest memories of big meets are putting the bout sheet in the bucket and seeing the "Orange Guy" where ever work was being done at Arsenal Tech.
  8. Sorry if I missed a post about this earlier in the month, but with all the College Commitments popping up I wanted to mention that I had noticed before that Indiana girls wrestling stand out by way of Wyoming Seminary Rianna Murphy had committed to be part of Iowa D1 women's program. Here is the article from earlier in the month. https://www.hawkcentral.com/story/sports/college/iowa/wrestling/2024/05/04/iowa-womens-wrestling-recruiting-class-adds-rianne-murphy/73569833007/
  9. The juggling act! Yeah, same boat, we have pretty large room, but figuring out the logistics and scheduling efficiently is the challenge. If many girls come out gonna have to get creative. May have to roll a mat out in another part of the school? Ultimately, separate facilities, coaching staffs right?!
  10. Rumor is South may be coming back. No girlfriend issue. Easy for me to say but the dude is locked in like I’ve never seen him.
  11. If they don't already, you could possibly have the girls practice with the boys to help with things

  18. Understandable that its difficult to get the volume of needed officials, but there should be a little oversite from the administrators. Track selects the mats for the matches, but there were 3 officials on random mats that weren't needed and the semis and even our finals match had single official as if it was an afterthought
