  1. Who cares. We live in Indiana. We want to put the best team out there. Other states can do whatever they see fit.
  2. Because those are the rules. The goal of the Indiana Gold team is to have the best kids. As a coach, if I have a kid that is eligible to be on the Gold team and money is the reason he won't be able to do it, I'll work to help him raise money. Put the best team possible together.
  3. It seems like a simple concept to me... To have the best team possible, put the best Indiana kids on that team. Not sure why everything has to involve some conflict.
  4. Ed Ruth and Angel Escobedo didn't get full scholarships as incoming freshmen.... full scholarships are rare
  5. Agreed. You see football d-linemen engage the crowd before a play, basketball players occasionally do the same. I've never seen a wrestler do it before getting set on bottom like Samuels did. It was captivating. Many times when 10+ points are scored by each wrestler, there is some sloppy wrestling and poor technique. This match had neither of those. Aggressive wrestling and well executed technique by both kids. What a show!! Glad I was able to be there to enjoy it.
  6. That isn't entirely true. I believe some kids were left off, but I'm checking into it now.
  7. "Teddy" Graham Rooks..... Wow, that's hilarious. I'm gonna do my best to see that this name sticks...
  8. Any reason why there is a weigh-out for this meet? Why are we making this more complex than it has to be?
  9. Not a bad call... Tough call for sure. Mosley went from the center circle and backed out of bounds, twice. Had that stall call not ended the match, it wouldn't have even been talked about. The official just had the balls to make the call. Worst call ever?? I have a 170 lb ticket round match to show you...
  10. Thanks big guy!! Our kids really buy in to the team aspect, today was just evidence and reward for all the time they put in.
  11. I'd say in wrestling that 12-13 of the 14 brackets in every sectional (sometimes all 14) generally separate the best kids. Of course there is an occasional bracket in which this doesn't happen, but this is not the norm. There are 448 sectional brackets and of those there are usually only a few that don't have the best kids separated. A random draw is just awful (I know most other sports always talk about seeding). With a random draw with 8-10 teams you might be lucky to separate the best kids in 2-3 of the 14 weights. No matter what criteria is put in place, you are not going to get 100% of the brackets correct. It seems like addressing specific situations/coaches that try to take advantage of the criteria seems like a better option than abandoning seeding all together.
  12. At the seeding meeting for HHC we were told that they pay was $300 per official for the Varsity meet.
  13. Chris Davis (Floyd Central) was one of the officials at the HHC tournament this weekend. He is an outstanding official. Very decisive with his calls, knows the rules, controls the wrestlers, table help and keeps the match moving. We travel a lot with our schedule and see officials from all corners of the state. In my opinion, he is already one of the best out there, and I believe he is a first year official. He is a great addition to southern Indiana officiating.

  15. This quote didn't come from Socrates, and it certainly isn't 2500 years old. Regardless, I do agree with your point.
  16. This was said before, but way too many weight classes for this. I think most of these girls just want to wrestle other girls, even if that means they combine a few weights.
