  1. The Falcons are the real deal this year. They are ALWAYS tough but this year, even compared to last year, it seems as though they are wrestling at a whole new level. They are a machine.
  2. Ouch.. Tough day. I have no doubt in my mind this will push him to work even harder though. He will bounce back strong. Great kid and great wrestler with a lot of up side. Also, more importantly it is a huge testament to how tough the Traicoff truly is- this is one heck of a dual tournament.
  3. Sorry... When and where will they be wrestling? I am hoping to make it!
  4. I am pre-law and soon to graduate. I am more than willing if there is any ironing out as far as potential contracts are concerned (if applicable). Granted I will have my law school (or seminary) load on my shoulders but I am more than willing to make some sacrifices to the sport of wrestling if I can help. I never had the opportunity to participate in Team State but I know at least for our team it was a goal. This is an awesome aspect of the sport and would have no problem helping if called upon. Wrestling saves lives and changes lives.
  5. http://www.courierpress.com/news/2011/dec/07/30pt-hed3-10-inches-p-herey-herey/ An article from Evansville Courier & Press. Highlighting the return of Dane Maurer to wrestling and the return of Blake Maurer to the EMD wrestling room. Really good article- sorry if it has already been posted- since admittedly it is relatively old (produced yesterday). I say that jokingly since it articles are typically posted immediately on this message board. I figured i'd share it with those who may have missed it.
  6. Hmm... They should just go ahead and invite Perry, EMD, Roncalli, Penn, Bellmont, Yorktown and name the winner team state champs following this season. I think that would be about as accurate of a representation you could get apart from an IHSAA sanctioned event. The Triacoff is awesome I wish it wasn't entering finals week at my University otherwise I would be there watching a weekend of darn good wrestling. Congrats in advanced to the winners. Definitely looking forward to see how Mishawaka and CP finish.
  7. A kid in my youth group is a former member of LN wrestling team; he graduated last year and said, "Even though we lost a lot Warren Central wrestled tough and looked good. They're much improved." I would be lying if I said I was not already excited for Marion County.
  8. Robert Stevenson II... He the next Sliga? Crazy to see how physically gifted some of these freshmen are entering these middle/upper weights and competing at a high level immediately.
  9. I wouldn't be so sure. Evansville SS is quality. Ft. Wayne is much improved but Evansville is always going to be tough with Castle, EMD, Reitz, Franklin Community, Center Grove, and so on. Although, Nick Crume is my dark horse this year. He is very capable of winning state this year.
  10. Thanks that is awesome! Are there any marquee match ups that we should be aware? Lynde and Dre, will they wrestle each other?
  11. Just curious will you be updating while at the meet?
  12. I agree, "where there is smoke, there is fire, " but winning recruits itself. I don't how directly involved the Yorktown wrestling community may or may not have been in the process, however, they are a winning program and winners don't need to recruit- kids just want to attend. Either way very fishy. Feel sorry the young man; now he is going to miss out on his junior year of wrestling- seemingly due to his parents and not his own wishes- absolute shame. Prime example of when academics are trumped by sports.
  13. Heads up, I have heard word from Evan Smiley, he will be going 120 this year not 126.
  14. Hurford from Culver Community is ranked 2nd at 182.
  15. I do realize it was Andrew Howe... And we all know Andrew Howe is probably, and in my opinion is, the best wrestler to ever wear a singlet in the state of Indiana. But I am just pointing Walpole out because he like McKinley is a stellar Perry wrestler extremely well coached and talented but still capable of losing if someone shows up and takes the match to them. And since Caliboy/WcDad has a Perry and Warren bias they are terms to which he should be able to relate.
  16. I bet you wouldn't have bet on Nick Walpole losing the state title his senior year either, would you? Jared McKinley is a VERY good wrestler and Neil Molloy is a VERY good wrestler. Both are defending state champs Jared is bumping up Molloy is basically staying the same weight- I'd imagine we see both of them under the lights this season wrestling for the state title and they will end this debate there.
  17. I know this question was NOT malicious in nature but I feel that is an issue between parents and coaches recruiting him.
  18. That is a testament to the Brooks brothers that despite their coach lacking they have been able to succeed as much as they have. And I understand that wrestling is your marque sport trust me I graduated from a high school that was the exact same way. But the schools graduation rate has nothing to do with his ability to excel in the classroom and on the mat as he has proved otherwise. Parental involvement and encouragement matters just as much so my hats off to you for being involved and active in your child's life.
  19. McKinley is a beast but he is bumping up Molloy is basically defending his state title from 130 last year at 132 this year. I'd say until someone beats him keep Molloy on top. That will be a great match both wrestlers strong, technical, and aggressive could be one to remember under the lights.
  20. If he changes his mind I wouldn't mind seeing him at Minnesota. Talk about a practice partner in Cody Philips- plus tons of talent throughout that entire room.
  21. I do not know what being ranked #1 in America has to do with anything- that should not provide special treatment. However, I do know that if he was suspended for the reason stated above, I would see no problem justifying a transfer and in fact would encourage it.
  22. Its tough to class wrestling when a 1a team EMD is capable of beating any school in the state regardless of size. Also, 2a Yortown and Bellmont can easily be mentioned in that same category. Please do not take this as a ploy against classing wrestling. I am in favor of classing the team state dual wrestling tournament, just not the individual, as well as within the confines of a class system finding a true team champion regardless of class. I'd love to see EMD a top the podium one more time before the IHSAA discontinues the state series. But that being said Perry Meridian is a VERY good team from top to bottom. Coach Tonte has them prepared and ready to wrestle again this year just like all the previous years.
  23. I'd most definitely agree. But you get a wahoo for that.
