  1. Great job boys. Very impressive showing. We are all proud of you. Just goes to show how an united Indiana can wrestle with and beat any state. On a side note. Jesse Mendez is a monster. This kid dominated the competition at Middle school duals as a 6th grader. I was not in Council Bluffs this year. The team leaders and coaches said that he was the most dominate wrestler at the Heartland Duals. This kid better have his shades on...... his future is about as bright as it gets. BTW... this fact is not up for debate so all you message board warriors... step off!!!! Also... Big shout out to the kids from #TheCounty. We sent 9 kids that live here (7 gold team and 2 blue team). Five of these kids got All-American!!! Pretty impressive showing by the youth of #TheCounty. Combined record of 47-16.
  2. I would like to point out the success and growth of the Heartland Duals out in Council Bluffs. Fred Franklin is the guy that puts that on. It is truly an amazing event. The organization is incredible. The facilities and competition are second to none. This event has grown into a monster. They had around 30 elementary and 30 middle school teams this year (from many states). Then you look at two other events that used to be the tops for these age groups (AAU duals in Kingsport and Middle School National Duals in Danville). These two events are in decent locations and venues, but they do not come close to what you get out in Council Bluffs. Like the duals in question, these other events are dying. The bottom line is that if we stay par for the course and don't continue to improve our events, someone else will put on a bigger better event. Not sure what it is, at the high school level. Perhaps many kids are just waiting to go to the monster that is Virginia Beach Duals? We need to make some changes or our event will continue to dissolve. Triple B.... do you think that we could put on a dual that could be similar to what you were able to witness at the Heartland Duals???? And... Did you make it over to the casino???
  3. Why cant the Indiana Mat just sponsor the "official" Indiana teams? Come together as one. Show the powers to be how to get cost down and help them get the sweet gear. Hell... have them all wear gorilla gear. Are egos too big to come together? Our elementary kids are a great example. This weekend they almost won the toughest elementary dual tournament in the world. They had kids from all the big academies. And..... the ISWA got them some very cool swag. By the way... what keeps the coaches association from keeping teams out? I'm sure if they thought that their teams were being watered down or less than united, then they may go back to the two team deal (like mentioned above).
  4. Great job to all. It was a fun trip. Indiana vs. Indiana to end the day. Very intense and fun dual. Thank you, to all the parents that sacrifice their time and money to allow their kids to have this experience. Thank you to the coaches and table workers. Big plans for the middle school teams in the future. Look forward to next year. Matt Brewer Asst. Team Leader
  5. Wow.... Some great talent won that award in 2008!!!!
  6. Packed room tonight. Wabash coaches really opened some eyes about how fun wrestling can be. Great coaches with an awesome philosophy. Not hard to see how the Wabash program has been very successful of late. Thanks guys!!!! Purdue staff next week. Let's pack the room again!!!
  7. Yes Contenders and Red Cobra are both located in #TheCounty. But back to the topic.... RWA is kicking some butt!!! Congrats to those guys.
  8. Would love to see a national championship team!!!! Btw... the group of kids from 2013, also got 3rd in Kingsport, TN in 2012. Best finishes by Indiana teams at both events. Those guys were freshmen this year, and are doing VERY well at the high school level. If anyone has any doubts about going on these trips, or going to an academy.... just look at these results. Early on, I caught a lot of flack for encouraging my club kids to attend academies (my own kids included). People said that our Avon teams weren't Avon teams... and knocked us for not training the kids full time. Many coaches still are reluctant to support academies. We have 4 coaches in our club that wrestled in the Big 10 (All national qualifiers). With this said, we can only do so much at the club level. Having great clubs, along with being able to attend academies with tons of other state champs to push our kids, is a formula for success. This is what has been working for the Illinois kids for the last decade. Love seeing these results. Cant wait to go be a part of Middle School National Duals this weekend!!! #TheState
  9. Dang!!! Again, I had no clue of what the outcome would be. I know that your boy is a stud, and will have great success in the future. Not having him on the schoolboy national team is a BAD thing. I just figured that calling may open eyes to your situation. For what its worth..... I'm sorry that you are in this situation. I know you are doing the best for your boy and Indiana wrestling. You are a huge reason, why the Elementary team will be very good this year (got kids out). See you guys soon.
  10. Call them! Phone numbers are in the iswa book. And yes... Everyone should look at this awesome board as much as possible!!!
  11. I'm no longer an iswa board member so I'm out of the loop. With this said... Has anyone actually called a board member. To be honest... Very few board members get on this site (with exception to my brother Jmill). Also... I have been at every ISWA freestyle and Greco state for over a decade. Very few people if any actually walk up to the state chair or vice chairs and discuss stuff like this man to man. I'm not taking sides on this issue, but I would like to see some of the people that are crazy vocal on this message board, pick up there phone and call the powers to be. Or.... Better yet talk to them person to person. I can not say without a doubt that this will help or solve the problem, but.... I assure you that it will solve more issues than getting on this board a spewing venom. Again, I'm not taking sides in this matter, but if people feel this passionate about the issue I would love to hear how a conversation goes between them and a chair at the iswa. Btw... That's how I became a board member to start with. I had concerns and ideas. I went to the iswa with my ideas, and they thought they were good. They then asked if I could give of myself to make wrestling better here, and I gladly stepped up and did what I could. This message is not geared to anyone.... So, please do not take it the wrong way. The bottom line is this... Don't talk about it be about it!
  12. cough cough.... Mattyb's system!!! Haha But.... yes I Agree. There is no better way to get your best team. It allows kids to wrestle off at two weight classes. I set it up like that to ensure two studs don't knock each other out of a number one spot. Kids are in and out in two hours. Then the next group comes in. Four weight classes at a time two mats. If you don't make a spot at one weight class.... you stay for the next session and try again. Can only wrestle up one weight class. This system is producing elementary dual teams which are finishing higher than any other of our dual teams (on average). The hardest part is squashing all the politics and beefs and getting kids to come tryout.
  13. Heck yes.... Danville is a huge part of #TheCounty. With this said, they don't currently have a club to pump up. Most of their studs train with coach Parrish @ #CWA. I watched Brock Hudkins train in coach Parrish's parents two car detached garage when Ryan started the whole thing years ago. Nothing like watching the kids get after it while the action spilled out onto the driveway. Kind of crazy to think about those days when I now see over 100 kids killing it nightly at the new CWA building. My kids look up to Brock Hudkins. Brock defines what wrestling is in our area. Great kid with an unbelievable work ethic. Brock also does private lessons with a lot of the little guys. He is going to be a great coach one day. The Danville boys are awesome kids. Steve (PUG) has done a great job with those kids. #CWAOG
  14. #TheCounty with a strong showing. We had 23 in the finals with 13 champs (kids that live in #TheCounty). Had several other champs that train in #TheCounty but don't live here. Nice to live in a place where wrestling gets top billing. Big things happening at the Avon Wrestling Club, Brownsburg Wrestling Club, Plainfield Wrestling Club, Tri-West Wrestling Club, Cascade Wrestling Club, Contenders Wrestling Academy, and Red Cobra Wrestling Academy (all within 10 miles). These kids have quality rooms to workout in every night. They are putting in the work and it is paying off.
  15. Amen!!! Remember this when you all come to Avon for freestyle and Greco. We typically have to tell the same people over and over not to smoke. Picking up after yourselves will help a lot also. With all of this said, 90 percent of our wrestling families get it. They understand that it is all about the kids and are very thankful to be able to wrestle in a nice facility. If you see something say something. We all want the best for the kids. Don't let the vast minority ruin it for the rest of us. If you absolutely need a heater.... Get in your car and take a drive.
  16. Our RTCs are geared to the wrestler that wants to wrestle at the next level (college). Our clinicians are all college coaches that will not only give your wrestler great technique, they will outline the path that your wrestler will need to take to make it to a college room. In the past, these coaches have given advice on grades, testing, social media, personal relationships, scholarship money, and spiritual aspects. Please come and start to develop a realationship with these programs. The technique is great, but the life lessons and advice are priceless. Please also note that the Avon staff has 4 coaches that wrestled in the big ten. Coaches Israel Blevins and Davion Peterson wrestled at Purdue. Coaches Jon McClain (four time Big Ten all academic and team captain!) and Aaron Crane wrestled at Indiana University. Come check it out!!!! Oh..... I almost forgot...... #TheCounty
  17. The match will most likely go down when #TheYoungGunz go to Brandon in June to train. And..... if it does happen nobody will tell who wins!!!! Looking forward to training with our brothers down south. #TheCounty #TheHills
  18. Lane gets the fall in the finals!!!!
  19. I have been around for a while. I can honestly say that this will be the best trip that you can take your kids on. I would love to see an Indiana team better our finish in 2013. The venue is second to none. The hotels, restaurants, and casino are all within walking distance to the venue. TRYOUT!!!!!!
