  1. Having been fortunate enough to be in on the inaugural duals, I can say it was definitely a highlight of my coaching career. The chance to see so many great wrestlers in on location was awesome. I hope the top two seniors in every weight class decide to take part in this event. I just wish it would come all the way down here to the crotch of the state sometime. I understand why it doesn't but I can still dream.
  2. I agree. Never seen someone wrestle on top like they do. Maybe we should rename them the leech twins....they never let go.
  3. Who the hell is Charles Barnett? Chuck's evil twin? ;D
  4. Wonder what he would charge to do 15 minutes of material during a break before the finals? Being a state champ and NCAA All-American, I bet he can give us some stuff about his wrestling days that would have us rolling in the aisles.
  5. Well, I don't know about your school, but at mine we DO have problems getting enough time keepers (at times) for tournaments. We host a two-day tournament over Thanksgiving break, running four mats. We end up having jv wrestlers run the clock on some mats. We have asked each team to provide a person to help out on the clock if needed. Some teams are accomodating, some are not. Right now, we can tell a person that running the clock is easier than using your tv remote; all you have to do is flip the switch. That would change if riding time were implemented.
  6. I agree with base. The clock operators in a lot of places probably won't be able to keep up with it. And then there's the official needing to award the takedown asap.
  7. It doesn't have the kind of records you're talking about, but The Ancient Elder's book, Echoes of the Elder, is certainly the bible of Indiana wrestling. Every fan of Indiana wrestling needs one. Makes a great gift, too. No, I'm not receiving any advertising fees from TAE for pushing his book......
  8. Condolensces to the Eckert family and the Jasper wrestling community from Mt. Vernon.
  9. Uh oh....better hope Fruitchillers doesn't read your post. You'll be in biiiiiiiig trouble
  10. Naw, it wasn't Wildeman. I think I found it in TAE's book. In 1998, Rob Mallory finished 6th at 152. I think the guy's name he replace was Kite(?).
  11. "The horse is now as dead as a guard rail, stop beating it!" Now THAT'S funny. I don't care who you are!!!
  12. The first round takes about 3 hours. I'd think that's all you'd want to get in on a Friday night. That would cut it down to 8 wrestlers on Sat. Having an 8-man pull through tournament on Sat. would be eminently feasible. The only thing is about every other year, we have to contend with a concert at Robert's Stadium on Friday night. That means our set-up folks have to get to there about 4 or 5 on Sat. morning. Like the idea, though.
  13. LOL.....and most of the time it's even true!!!!
  14. A few years back, Mater Dei had a guy who wrestled JV most, if not all, of the year. When their varsity guy at that weight (152, I think) suffered a season-ending knee injury, the JV guy stepped in and finished 5th at state. Makes you wonder what the varsity guy could have done.
  15. Sounds like the title of a great wrestling story, doesn't it? "I don't disagree that it is unlikely a takedown will happen but it can happen, as I posted earlier on this topic, I am pretty sure Oliver Richmond scored a takedown in the state finals with 2 seconds left, starting in the neutral position. Can someone confirm the Oliver Richmond situation, I am really curious. Thank you." Since the topic where this comment was posted is locked, I'll respond here. I remember seeing that match also. I thought it was a reversal but maybe I'm wrong (Lord knows I'm wrong often enough). In the 1985 state tournament, Oliver Richmond of Ft. Wayne Elmhurst defeated Tom Magiera of Merrillville 7-5 (thank you, TAE, for your book). I remember the score being tied with very little time on the clock. The whistle blew and the next thing you knew, Richmond was on top of Magiera, scoring the winning points. I think all the air was sucked out of MSA as the entire crowd gasped in amazement. Not sure I've ever seen anyone move that fast since then.
  16. I'm all for that. Best of luck to all wrestlers. Compete hard and let's hope everyone comes out healthy.
  17. John was the qualifier. Lost to Eric Douglas of Valpo 7-3 on Friday night. Douglas went on to finish 2nd to Cameron Smith that year. Brady finished 5th, losing 5-4 Sat. morning to Tim Myers from Bellmont. Myers won the first of his two state championships later that night. We came out of the Seymour regional back then. In our semistate at 145 were Cameron Smith of Ben Davis (2X state champ but lost in the SS championship that year), James Holloway from Southport (finished 3rd at state but beat Smith at SS), and Rob Deters from Castle (finished 3rd at both SS and state). John had the bad luck to be 4th best at our semistate and, in my opinion, 5th best at state. Another one of those bad draws people are always complaining about. When John found out he'd drawn the winner of the Merrillville SS (who we knew would probably be Douglas), he said, "I guess I'll just have to go out and beat him, won't I." That was John's attitude about everything. He, Brady, and Andy were excellent wrestlers and are still excellent people. I thoroughly enjoyed the time I got to spend with them.
  18. Now YOU'RE impugning a person's reputation. Isn't that what you said other shouldn't do? You can't have it both ways. Like Nickster said, if YOU let it die, it will die.
  19. They are Y2's favorite teams.......He went to college with their coaches...... I'm also betting Duck and Run comes up with a conspiracy theory on why some are capitalized and some are not.
  20. True, but that doesn't make either one of them right.
  21. If you want to read all positive thoughts, you're definitely on the wrong site. You've posted several other messages condemning people who say things against Franklin wrestlers. I'd be curious to see if you'd refrain from posting something akin to those if a wrestler from a team who has a heated rivalry with Franklin lost their cool like Kief did Saturday. I've been unfortunate enough to witness 2 such meltdowns in the past two weeks. Haven't seen one like those since the Heitberg kid from Mooresville lost it at the semistate a few years back.
  22. Notorious for being hard on officials? C'mon, John. That's like saying Hitler had a slight disliking for non-Germans............ Heck, that could be a thread all by itself!! John Barnett and his interactions with officials... ;D JUST A JOKE......John knows who I am and knows I've seen him in action!!!!!
  23. Ah, but you got to see beautiful southwest Indiana!!! That in itself was worth the trip. Let alone stopping that punch...
  24. Completely disagree. You turn your back on your opponent, you deserve whatever you get as long as it's legal.
  25. Now for something COMPLETELY different...... Iowa and Minnesota are currently wrestling on the Big 10 network. McDonnough from IA thumped Sanders from MN 12-2.
